Candy was over the moon. Well, not literally, that would be silly! But she was WAY excited because of her new pet Maple Bar. The dog had shown up outside of her bakery one cold day, and Candy instantly felt sorry for the poor pup. She brought her inside and as they say, the rest is history.
The tan dog wandered the trail in front of her, wagging her tail excitedly with her nose to the ground. She inhaled deeply and then paused, lifting up her head ,so fast that her ears flopped. Candy shouted as Maple Bar jumped into a thicket of bushes that led to the more heavily covered forest off the trail. Maple Bar pretended not to notice, and ran after her nose.

Marvel was ready for another day, another adventure. Today didn't feel any different from the rest as she made her way across town towards the woods. She had recently discovered how awesome the forest was with all the trails and everything. Today she wanted to explore a new one she had found through a thicker part. The filly made it to the trail successfully. It was peaceful out here. Besides the sounds of nature it seemed like she was alone.

Maple Bar located that rabbit that she was tracking an chased it happily through the forest for a few minutes until she lost sight of it. Disappointed, Maple Bar stopped running and dropped her nose to the ground for another target. She found the smell of a phony and wagged her tail. A new friend!
She trotted through the trees after the scent, sniffing heavily.
Candy was calling for Maple to come back. She only had the dog for two weeks and she had already lost her! Candy's eyes were worried, and she followed the paw prints into the trees until they were lost to the leave.
"Maple Bar!?" she called, looking around in a circle. "Where are you!?"

Marvel wasn't alone for long. After a few minutes of silence and walking by herself. She heard a branch cracking from far off and then something getting closer. The filly always tried to be brave but she had no idea what was out there and that scared her a little. Could it be a monster? A bad phony? Maybe she shouldn't have come out there by herself. Bad idea, probably. It was getting closer. She backed up some, there was some odd looking ground behind her but she didn't noticed. "Um, st-stay back." Yeah, totally sounded like a super hero there.

Maple Bar's ears perked up when she heard a voice. She was right on the trail! She whined once, then rustled closer, tail wagging madly. When she poked her head through a bush, she spotted the phony and whine again, shaking her head to rid herself of leaves and debris that had collected in her fur.
Candy galloped after Maple. There were clear tracks now, and she followed them with little effort. What if Maple got lost?
"Maaaaaaaaaple?" she called, and heard a whine. That must be her!

If she kept saying she wasn't scared, it was true right? Probably didn't work that way. Marvel took a gulp and waited. For a moment she didn't hear anything but then noises got closer. Something covered in leaves and such came out of the bushes. Monster! The filly let out a yelp and stepped backwards. Her leg gave way to mud and Marvel fell back into it. She heard another noise getting closer, second monster? Maybe if she sat there defeated in the mud they wouldn't notice her. She was seriously covered in it.

Maple jumped from the bush after Marvel, barking a couple of times as she went down. Then she hopped over to the filly, licking her dirty face with wet kisses, completely unaware of the fear she had brought her.
Candy Dandy finally caught up to Maple and saw Marvel in the mud. Candy gasped, then stifled a giggle.
"Oh....dmmpphhh...dear." she said, holding her giggles inside even though they were threatening to implode her. "Are you hooo...ok?"

It was a dog. A dog. She had been afraid of something she was pretty familiar with. How did that happen. Marvel hoped it would go away but she got dog kisses instead, as she was still sitting in the mud puddle. Then, of course, the pups owner had to show up. She had to be strong. "Thanks but I'm fine." Totally fine covered in mud. The filly would have gotten up but there was a dog on her. Awesome.

Maple barked, and Candy whistled. The pup bounced over to her still new owner, sitting next to her with a bark and a wag.
Oh Maple Bar, now why did you go and frighten her?" she said, gently bopping the beast on the head.
One more look at Marvel covered in mud sent Candy over the edge. She burst out laughing, saying "Oh my you DO look funny!" in between bouts of giggles.

Well, at least the dog wasn't on her anymore. But when he jumped off of Marvel she fell back slightly into the mud again. Perfect. She grinned a bit at the dog getting bopped, relieved it was just a dog and its owner, and not a scary monster. Marvel frowned. "Funny?" She was suppose to look heroic, not funny. The laughing caused a small grin to cross her lips again. It was a little funny but she wasn't quite laughing yet.

Candy took a moment to breathe before she tried to speak again. When she finally could, her voice was strained with mirth.
"Well, yes! I mean, being covered in mud is no fun at all, but if you look on the bright side, then it's funny! At least you weren't hurt. Only in need of a bath."
Candy offered a hoof to the foal with a bright grin.
"It's ok to laugh at yourself sometimes! I do it a lot!"

Marvel thought for a moment. Yes it wasn't very super but she knew of heroes that could have fun too. True it wasn't fun but she grinned. "It is kind of funny I was afraid of a cute little puppy." It was a terribly cute dog too. The filly took the hoof and got upright. Mud dripped off of her and onto the other's hoof. She started to giggle. "Laughing does feel pretty good. You get into a lot of fun like this a lot?" It was an adult telling her this, so it really was ok to laugh at yourself and its better to laugh with others too.

"Oh yes. Whenever I feel embarrassed I just laugh at myself. Then everphony is laughing with me, not at me!"
She sat on the ground, wiping her muddy hoof on the ground. "Like this one time, when I was a filly, I got stuck in a rabbit hole. And it took three other phonies and a whole stick of butter to get me out! Boy was I all dirty when I was free. I was embarrassed because I got stuck, and my fur was all matted. Everyphony was laughing at me, and I was sad at first. But I realized that if I laughed with them, I wasn't embarrassed anymore, and I ended up having fun despite how it started."
She finished her story with a flourish, and Maple nodded and barked.

That was good advise, Marvel felt better laughing with this other phony then feeling sorry for herself and thinking she was being made fun of. She listened intently to the sorry and nodded. If that happened to herself she would have been super embarrassed and would have never thought to laugh. But now it was different. "Fun is a lot better then embarrassment. Thanks I feel a lot better about this!" Even super heroes needed help and needed to laugh every so often. "I should probably go get cleaned up now."

"That's probably a good idea." Candy Dandy remarked, noting the foal's dirty-ness. "I need t go teach Maple how to come when she is called." A stern look from Candy to the dog went unnoticed by the pooch, who wagged her tail at the attention. Good or bad.
"It was very nice to meet you...." she trailed off, realizing that she had never asked the filly's name!
