Five more days of work, but no classes. I want to get all of my notes and worksheets for September (last two units) DONE by Thursday. Then I'm off from Saturday until August 27th.

Considering my last job I only got 4-5 days off all summer? It's ******** heaven. I get 7 days off due to the school being closed for Obon and the A-bomb memorial day, plus I'm taking another 18 days off out of my 35 vacation days I get yearly.

I can't get my mind around a teacher not getting a really long summer vacation.

I can't get my mind around a teacher not getting a really long summer vacation.

A lot of it is because we're still technically in the middle of the school year. The Japanese staff is limited to only 10 days off other than the Obon holidays when the school is closed. Since we foreign teachers aren't technically hired by the school, we can take a longer vacation.

Also, even in the US many teachers will teacher summer school classes or drive buses for summer day camps and whatnot to make up for the lack of a paycheck during the long summer vacation.
