With summer came an influx of phonies at her shop. There were fillies and colts that all had allowance money, and what better way to spend it than on a cookie or two? Candy bowed her head for what seemed like the hundredth time when another phony left the shop, then wiped her brow. It was finally lunch time. She galloped across the store floor and locked the door, hanging up a sign bearing the words "Out to Lunch, Be Back in an Hour!"
She gathered up her saddle bags, and left the store through her house in the back, intent on not really having a nice lunch, but getting ingredients for her next big idea.
She visited the flower shop, and bought some daisies. Next was the fruit vendor, who always held a small basket of blueberries for her. Finally was the other fruit phony that had a lovely crop of cherries this year. Her next basket would be flowers!
She paused in the park with a sandwich bought from a roadside stand, and munched on the daffodil, carrot and mayo sandwich happily. The saddle bags were laying next to her feet, just in sight.

Filly Buster was less than fond of shore leave. All she really wanted to do was make sure that the Flirty Mermaid was seaworthy, even if it did have a questionable name. But they couldn’t work all the time, and she’d been ordered to go off and have some fun.
Fun, ha. Pirates didn’t have fun, unless it was by looting and pillaging. And involved something called grog, the nature of which she had yet to determine.
Still, she took the opportunity to wander the shops. She didn’t have any money on her, but for a pirate, that wasn’t an issue. If she saw something she wanted, she’d take it! As long as it wouldn’t be missed. Some phonies had way more than they needed… like that one! Her eyes narrowed as she spotted a mare with bulging saddlebags. There seemed to be all sorts of goodies that she was hoarding in those things. That was just plain wrong.
Fortunately, there was a pirate there to even the odds and settle the score. She scurried closer, hiding behind a tree for cover. Or rather, trying to hide. Filly Buster was a pirate, not a ninja, and stealth was not her strong suit. Her wings poked out from one side, and her hooves could be seen on the other, but she was too busy coming up with a plan to realize it.

((I'm sorry I haven't been around to reply! I hope I haven't screwed up your plans to grow her! orz)) Candy was sure she heard a noise, and stopped chewing for a moment. She glanced around, but didn't see anything that could account for the noise she heard. So she went merrily back to finishing her sandwich, attacking the last few bites with a ravenous hunger. The the pink phony sighed, patting her stomach. All is well when a belly is full! Candy prepared to lean backwards and doze her other half of lunch away, but as soon as she closed her eyes, the noise happened again.
Her ear twitched, and she opened one eye lazily. It sounded like a bee, but there were none around. She gently lifted her head, and out of the corner of her blue eye, spied a pair of wings sticking out from behind a tree. She snickered.
Someone was playing hide and seek.
The food arranger decided she would play along for now, just to see what the little one was up to. She had time before having to go back to the shop. So she laid her head back down, and closed her eyes until just a sliver could be seen out from underneath her lashes. From that vantage point she watched the tree, and the unknown phony behind it.

The best approach, Filly Buster decided, would be to go from the tree to a nearby bush, and then dash behind the bench. From there, maybe she'd be able to snatch a couple of things, fend off any guards, and bring the goodies back to the ship. Wouldn't the others be thrilled with her find?
She peeked out again, and blinked, hardly believing her luck. The would-be hoarder was asleep! Probably full from all of that yummy food. Well, she was about to get what was coming to her.
Stealth wasn't necessary with a sleeping target. Instead, Filly Buster boldly approached the other phony- or rather, her bulging saddlebags- and began to size them up. Her own saddlebag was much smaller, so she couldn't bring everything back to the crew. She had to prioritize. Flowers were pretty, but not very useful. The fruit, on the other hand, looked delicious.
"Ye be comin' with me," she murmured to the bag of cherries, as she tried to squeeze it into her saddlebag without crushing the fruit, or waking up their owner.
Blue Eyed Melloon No worries, I haven't been around much either. ^^;

Candy watched the Flutter approach with a rapidly beating heart. Oh she was going to startle her as a joke! But once she got close enough, Candy's excitement turned into disbelief. Was she? No....
But the hooves in her bags confirmed it. The little thief was stealing her cherries! She waited until the fruit was being hastily stuffed into a considerably smaller bag before her eyes flashed open, and she lurched upright.
"What do you think you're doing, ya little guttersnipe!" She said, loud enough to startle but less than a yell. She wanted an explanation. Plus chasing down the Flutter after she took off was not on her list of things to do today.

Everything was going perfectly. A little too perfectly. So when the owner suddenly woke up, Filly Buster yelped and dropped the cherries. She was annoyed with herself for misjudging the situation so badly, but not ashamed of her actions. Pirates stood by the choices they made. And she wasn't about to back down from a challenge. Nobody called her names and got away with it!
"I be takin' yer goods to them that need 'em, ye bilge rat! Only a scallywag would take so much! This's for all them that need it more!" She bent down to try and grab the bag of cherries again. Maybe, if she was quick enough, she could grab it and run before this greedy phony could react.

Candy tilted her head in confusion. Bilge rat? Scallywag? What the heck were those? Apparently they were not very nice, because the words were thrown at her like an insult. Her face tinged a darker pink. Insults were rude, especially when hurled at a complete stranger! After being caught stealing no less! She was unaware of this pirate code, but she hastily swiped her hooves toward the cherries.
"So you're stealing my things for someone else?" she retorted, dragging her bags behind her where they could be kept safe while she went back to wrestle for the cherries. "Well charity or not, you're still a thief! Besides, I wasn't going to eat all of these myself anyway!"
What did this little foal think, she was trying to be a sumo pony?

Her attempts being thwarted was bad enough, but it wasn't the worst thing. Being called a thief hurt more than Filly Buster thought it would. Because thieves were bad, but she wasn't bad. She was noble and terrifying and powerful. And if this grown-up couldn't see that, she needed to get her eyes checked.
"I'm not a thief, I'm a pirate!" She was so upset that she forgot to modify her choice of words, so there were no arrs or avasts. "Pirates are amazing, okay? We take what we need from people who have more than enough, so there!"
She made another half-hearted attempt to grab the cherries, before the rest of what the other phony said had sunk in. Then she stopped and looked up, truly perplexed. "If ye not be eatin' all o' this, why d'ye have so much?" Did this lady think she was an idiot, just because she was young?

Oh dear, she had hurt the little one's feelings. Candy felt a twinge of guilt, and a burn of shame. She had overreacted a little bit hadn't she?
"A pirate?" she said, finally realizing that the filly was in deed, dressed like a pirate. So she wasn't stealing to be awful, she was looting! Suddenly it all made sense.
Her question was met with a sigh, and a hoof to the forehead to straighten out the stray locks of mane. "I am taking these back to my shop. I make edible flower arrangements, and I also make regular baked goods to sell individually."
Candy sat back down, a gesture of peace.
"These cherries are going to be inside rolled tarts with blueberries." she explained. "I'm going to put them in my shop as a seasonal treat."

"... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh."
As someone who didn't aspire to a normal career, Filly Buster often had a hard time understanding convention. To her, the world was split between the plunderers, the plundered, and those with whom she could share the loot. It didn't even occur to her that someone had to make the loot before she could take it. If this phony was going to be selling delicious treats to people, then she needed more ingredients than she'd be able to eat herself. And naturally, she'd be mad at someone who tried to take them, no matter how justified she felt her cause was.
It was a glimpse into a world Buster didn't often get to see, and while she usually didn't mind not knowing what lubbers were up to, this was valuable information, she felt. Plundering that was definitely worthwhile. But she probably did owe the grown-up something, even if she hated having to give it.
"I... I'm sorry. I din't mean t'take yer livelihood." Filly Buster pawed at the ground, too embarrassed at having to apologize to make eye contact. "I'll be leavin' ye to it, then." She turned to go, hoping that that would be enough, and no authorities would need to be called.

Candy couldn't fully grasp Filly Buster's mental though process. She wasn't aware of what being a pirate entailed, or what the young one did. She did understand acting before thinking; this was a problem she often had to deal with as a filly herself.
Candy smiled, glad that everyone was set straight. "Oh it's alright. I understand your want to help those less fortunate. It's an admirable goal."
She was content to let the poor thing go with a nod, but as the little flutter started to leave, she felt another twinge of guilt.
"Wait!" she called out, getting to her hooves and gathering her things. "Don't go!" She brought herself even with Filly Buster.
"You know, if you really want to help those without, I have an idea that just might do us both some good." she said with a twinkle in her eye. "If you're up to it."

The grown-up didn't seem too mad. Maybe she could get out of this after all. Just walk quickly, Buster thought, quickly and quietly, and maybe she won't think about-
"Wait!"
Well, so much for that. It was tempting to run off, but Buster stood her ground. She was a pirate. She would face whatever was coming to her with dignity. She would not run away like a coward.
Besides, the grown-up was an Earth phony, and there was no way Buster could outrun her.
So she stood, and she listened. She didn't really understand, but it sounded promising. If it was a trap, it was a devious one and she would do well to learn from it. If it wasn't...
"A pirate is up for anything!" Buster proclaimed proudly. "I won't back down from a challenge!" And she really did want to help, but adding that would make her sound like a wuss, so she let her statement stand.

Candy grinned, happy that she was going to help.
"Come with me." She said, gathering her things and making her way back to her house/store. She pushed open the back door, and wandered through her living room in to the kitchen that connected both buildings. She placed her ingredients down in piles Then she got out the dough that had been chilling in the fridge for the tarts.
"Now, here's what you'll do." she said, indicating Filly's spot was in front of the fruit. "Wash the fruit, and then I'll put the dough in the tart molds. You can decide how much of each fruit goes in there." The sparkled in Candy's eye was still present. What this pirate needed was a job.
"Then I'll put them in the oven, and when they cool, we'll hand them out as samples!" she finished, taking the plastic wrap off of the dough bowl and prodding the yellowy bulge inside.
"How's that sound?"

Something about this felt awfully suspicious. Buster wasn't sure that following was a good idea, but after her boast, not following felt even more uncomfortable. So she went along, looking around as she went through the grown-up's house. Being indoors on something that didn't move felt weird.
Then came the instructions, and she was too determined to show what she could do to argue. "Ye want th' fruit all clean? Easy!" And it was, at least in comparison to deck-swabbing. A few of the fruits might have ended up slightly bruised from her enthusiasm, but they were quite clean when she was through with them.
When the mare explained her plan, Buster's eyes widened. Samples? As in free? As in no payment required? Then this really was a good grown-up, and not one who hogged everything. Definitely not someone who deserved to be looted. "I... I'm sorry for taking your stuff, earlier." Apologizing this time was important enough to warrant dropping the pirate lingo. "What you're doing is really nice, and I'm glad to help."
That said, she tapped her hoof on the table. "Now, let's be gettin' down t' business wit' this fruit!"

The pirate Flutter embraced the task of cleaning with more gusto than Candy Dandy anticipated. Her face showed one of surprise when the fruit came back clean and ready. But she shook her head with a smile and brought the dough out of the bowl, hefting it onto the table and beginning to flatten it with a rolling pin.
She worked the pin, face set in concentration. She was feeling the pin underneath her hooves, how much give the dough had. This was where she belonged, in a kitchen making food.
When Filly Buster felt the need to apologize again, the rolling pin paused. Candy looked up from her work, warmth radiating from her face. "It's alright. You returned it right? And now we can use it to give phonies something to smile about. So all is forgiven."
The the youngster slipped back into her pirate talk, and Candy snorted out a laugh. "You're right." she said, taking out the tart tins and tossing them in a pile. She took the first one and pressed into the rolled dough. Out came a perfect circle nestled in the tart tin. She passed it to Filly, saying "Now don't fill them up past the top, or the dough will get all funny lookin."
Then began an assembly line of sorts, the work coming along swimmingly.
