The wedding was amazing. Though she did not spend that much time with her half brother, Candy was still very happy that he had found someone to share his life with. She stood and clapped with the crowd after the vows were said, and even felt a tear in her eye. Now it was the reception, and Candy's mind was on the arrangements she had provided as the snacks. Her pale pink dress swished this way and that, hiding her curly tail and cutie mark as she fussed with drooping pineapple flowers, and empty spaces caused by phonies picking something to eat. She had a sparkly silver music note pinned in her mane, and had even sprung for pale pink eyeshadow. There were seven baskets in all, each decorated with chocolate music notes and pillows to match the theme of the wedding. The baskets themselves alternated between green and blue, with the main portion of each basket based on the respective groom's taste. Blue baskets had chocolate CDs and music notes, with blueberries, raspberries and pineapple flowers with tomato centers. The green baskets had marshmallow pillows with chocolate moons painted on, and white chocolate book pages. There was also an assortment of carrots, strawberries and lemongrass to fill the insides. Candy sighed, taking a step back. There was only so much she could do, and when they finally looked perfect, she smiled serenely. Hopefully these would drum up some business for her. Then she turned her back on the baskets, admiring the phonies milling about. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Ikebana, in his suit jacket and tie, felt strangely... overdressed for the occasion. Yes, it was a wedding, and yes, his half-brother's at that, but the entire locale seemed to beg for something a little more low-key than what he had on. Lots of pillows were about. Pillows and lasers. And flowers, some of which he'd helped crafting and some of which were not (and some of which were, to his surprise, edible.)
Ikebana ordered himself a beer from the bar and settled at one of the reception tables to drink it slowly. His cousin Barley Pop had turned him onto the drink, and he found he liked the wheaty taste of it. He sat, mulling over the wedding. It was nice. Draft Punk had seemed overjoyed, and it made him happy to think of his half-brother so happy. He also found out that his half-brother's father was, ah... rather prolific, indeed.
The big draft took a long sip and looked out onto the crowd. Lots of handsome and beautiful ponies mulling about.
Ikebana leaned forward. That pale pink phony, with the tight curls, she looked very familiar. Very, very familiar. Where could he have met such an elegant-looking phony before?

Candy was feeling quite thirsty. The room was filled with many bodies, and the heat was starting to press on her. She ordered a glass champagne. Wouldn't be a wedding without it right? As she took a sip, she spied someone looking her way. She pretended not to notice, though in truth she was curious. He looked strangely familiar....Finally her curiosity got the better of her, and she fully turned to face the stallion, while sidling over to his table. "Hi there." she said, noting that up close, he continued to look like somephony she had met before, but couldn't quite place it. It was on the tip of her tongue... "Have we maybe met before? I feel like we have. It could be the champagne talking though." She kept herself under control; her mother had said that at functions like this, it was better to restrain her tendency toward over excitement. She did allow herself to giggle however, nothing could keep her from that.

The large stallion broke into a soft smile as the mare approached him, holding a bubbly beverage the color of his flank. He slid slightly to make room for her, all the while keeping his eyes on her face. She really did look terribly familiar, and she seemed to feel likewise...
"I was just thinking the exact same thing. I swear we've met, I just can't seem to place it." said Ikebana, trying to sound polite. He was aware the situation could look rather like he was hitting on the mare, rather than being honest. Not that she wasn't beautiful, but he really was curious...
He looked at her for a long moment, his bright eyes taking in her colors and her curls, so well put together -- and then suddenly he saw another face, a muddy, childlike face, with a white headband squishing those curls to her forehead. He started, his smile growing wider. "My race partner!" he exclaimed, pleased.

His mane was so long! Her eyes ran over it's length, feeling slightly envious. While she did love her curls, she always thought long hair was gorgeous. Her eyes widened as he made the connection. Why, it was Ikebana! The little colt from the six legged race! THAT'S where she knew him from! Suddenly his cream colored stripes peeking out from the bottom of his suit seemed like a total giveaway, along with his colors. How did she not realize it was him? "Oh my! Ikebana!" She was proud of her ability to remember names, especially now when she was face to face with somephony she had only met once. "It really is you! Why, you've grown up!"

"Yes!" said Ikebana with a laugh, his entire face lighting up with the recognition. Yes, he could see her clearly now. What on earth was she doing at the wedding? A friend? He would be terribly embarrassed if she was one of his mother's other children... that wasn't possible, was it? "And you're Candy... Candy... Dandy, right?"
He lifted his beer as a salutation to her. "It looks like you did some growing, yourself. Look at you. And still such lovely hair. Not doing as much six-legged racing these days?"

Candy laughed lightly before raising her own glass and taking a sip. "That's right! I'm out of the six-legged races I'm afraid. I'm much too clumsy for athletic talents.""I was actually just thinking the same about your hair." she said, again eyeing the pale locks. "Your mane is absolutely lovely! Though I don't know if I could have mine that long without tripping over it." Or having it get in the way of her basket making. Chocolate in hair must be a disaster to get out! She wondered why he too was at the wedding. Perhaps he knew Draft or Lullaby from foalhood. He certainly stood out from the crowd; Candy thought that he had grown up to be very handsome. Kudos to his father she thought to herself. "So what brings you to this shindig?" she asked, feeling like she didn't have to be so formal with Ikebana. They've seen eachother covered in dirt and mud, so why be fancy now?

Ikebana, perhaps loosened by the beer, was not as stoic or withheld as usual. He smiled easily as the mare spoke, even relaxing so much as to quip: "That's the problem with peaking early as an athlete. Nowhere to go after you've won that trophy."
As for her comment on his mane, Ikebana could only shake his head, sending ripples of movement down the cream strands. "Family secrets," he said, lowering his eyes in humility to her compliment.
He was happy for her next question, however. It was on his mind, and he was plenty glad to begin that conversation. "I'm related to the groom -- one of the grooms. Draft Punk. He's a half-brother by way of my mother, Scent Puff. I'm happy to see him so well matched. I know the groom -- the other groom's -- sister, Mandrake Blossom. Very spirited girl."

Candy giggled again, and took another drink of champagne. She held herself from sticking her tongue out like a child when Ikebana wouldn't share his mane secrets. Now would not be the place to revert back to a foal. "Fine." she said, feigning hurt. "I guess it shall remain a mystery."She blinked a couple of times when he mentioned being related, ears perking up. Oh god, please don't say that they are related! She tilted her head to one side when he said it was by his mother and not his father, and she let out the breath she didn't know she had been holding. All she needed was another half brother from another one of her father's trysts! "I know Mandrake Blossom." she said, recognizing the name. "Though we have only met once." And it had involved her yelling for the lot of them to leave because they were doing a family activity, but Candy didn't hold it against her. "I'm...actually related to Draft as well." she said slowly, twirling her glass and watching the bubbles rise to the surface. "His father is my father."

Ikebana's expression registered surprise when Candy Dandy admitted that she was related to Draft Punk as well, and a strange feeling of embarrassment crept up the draft's spine. Although it was barely a few seconds as the mare twirled her glass and spoke up again, it felt quite long to Ikebana, and then a look of relief crossed his features.
Inwardly, he chided himself. What would it have mattered if Candy Dandy was related to him? He did find her pretty, but one could find a relative pretty...
He smiled easily and nodded in response, taking another drink of champagne in lieu of an immediate response. It's not the same thing, Ike, and you know it.
"You don't say! I always forget how far-reaching my mother's family tree is... I feel I am always tripping over a cousin or half-sibling I didn't know I had." Ikebana laughed, the sound quite musical. "Or is that an awful thing to admit?"

A wash of relief come over Candy when it turned out that they were not related at all. It would be so embarrassing to think him incredibly handsome just to find out they were cousins or something! "I feel the same way, only with my father's side of the family. Why just the other day I ran into a cousin from my half sister that I didn't even know existed!" her laugh joined his, a giggle that slowly grew into full force. "Well I'm glad that we both decided to come!" Candy drained her glass, placing it carefully on the table. "So since you are grown, I assume you found your special talent. What did it turn out to be?"

"You are telling me..." said the champagne stallion, shaking his head with a mixture of chagrin and embarrassment. "Once, as a colt, I went into a shop looking to buy some bread -- I found out that not only did the shop belong to my aunt, but that my cousin was tending it. And the other day, I found out that one of my fair, young cousins was harboring a small crush... I have to start carrying a chart around, or things could get quite embarrassing."
He made a silly face at Candy Dandy and laughed, taking a long drink of champagne as she continued to speak. Ikebana nodded and swallowed, letting the smooth, bubbly burn tickle its way down his throat.
"That is true. Mine is a little unexciting, perhaps. It is just my namesake, a traditional Japanese flower arrangement. It seems my talent is in traditional arts, such as calligraphy and flower arranging and the like. I do demonstrations for some of the more culturally-inclined tourists these days." He smiled, a slow and humble expression. "But I'm much more interested to hear about you."

Candy laughed at Ikebana's story, feeling the bubbles that were in her drink up in her nose. She giggled for probably a moment too long and leaned forward on the table in an act of informality. No need to act so prim and proper when chatting about family right? "Not exciting? Why that sounds completely amazing!" she exclaimed when he downplayed his special talent. "Arranging flowers in a vase is like arranging cookies on a plate. Only the right combinations will bring phonies happiness and entice their feelings." She beamed, slightly proud of herself for coming up with the comparison that worked that well. When a waiter wandered by with a tray of full glasses, she waved him over with a hoof, swinging her back leg out to catch the end of her dress and prevent it from being stepped on. New drink in hoof, she went on. "I bet the tourists enjoy your works, though I am not sure what calligraphy is to be completely honest." His smile made the bubbles in her nose drop straight to her stomach, and she blushed slightly. "Me? Well let's see...I did just finish opening my shop recently. I do edible arrangements with food, as well as sell individual treats from inside the store. Highly original, I know. I must be the zillionth baker to open a store in town!" she chuckled, and took a swig of her drink. "The best part is that it is built off of my house, so I don't have to travel far from work! But I am getting busy enough that I might have to hire somephony to run the bakery part of the store while I do the arrangements. The ones for this party alone took me almost two weeks." She stared at the baskets that were rapidly emptying now that more phonies had located the treats. It made her happy to see everyone enjoy her creations, but also a little sad to see her hard work disappear. "I mean, other than that, I am pretty boring!" she finished, shrugging casually.

"Now who's being modest?" said Ikebana, shaking his head. The movement sent ripples down his long mane. He motioned toward the other tables, at the edible arrangements that were quickly disappearing. "Congratulations on your new shop. I am delighted you are doing so well -- and I am sure you can find a young foal out there willing to share in your duties. And this means you are the one I have to thank for the twelve cookies I have eaten already today! You are quite good."
As though to emphasize his point, Ikebana reached out and plucked another cookie from an arrangement, taking a sizable bite out of its side. He chewed and swallowed with every evidence of pleasure, grinning.
"Thirteen," he amended.

"Thank you! I've never run a business before, so I hope I do well. Having someone to watch the shop means I won't have to close when I have other plans as well." Like if she isn't feeling well, or perhaps if she wanted to check out a new shop and learn about calligraphy.... "Thirteen cookies? Dontcha know thirteen is an unlucky number? You'd better have another one." she giggled, taking two from another arrangement and offering the stallion one. After taking a bite, she smiled sweetly. "You know, sometimes I get so caught up in making these baskets that I forget to save some leftovers for me. I'm glad these turned out well!"Her eyes focused on him for a moment, then she looked away at the crowd, afraid that she was staring. It was difficult not to. The phonies milling about were having a wonderful time, chatting much like they were. She hazarded another glance at him, but was a bit more subtle about it as she twirled her glass between her hooves.
