It's a wide clearing almost into kiokote territory, of a similar sort to where the Games were once held. Here the ground is still a little cool, damp, moist underfoot, good for sore ankles and feet...

Also good for the growing things that kin have brought with them, which might need to be tended to, or kept cool, or might need water: this is the flower festival, a celebration of the height of growing season.

It started as a ridiculous little competition between two kin: who could grow the biggest, lushest flowers, who could show off a flower whose smell was intoxicating, or whose petals were so bright they could attract the eye of a doe from five hundred paces. In time, the flower fervor expanded: in time, the two kin found friends, and others, and eventually whole tribes were included in showing off their wares and flowers.

The clearing at this moment is still wreathed in morning mist which settles low against the ground, beading the grass with dew. The voices of excited kin echo strangely. But the day promises to be a sunny one, and the sun will eventually burn off the mist, revealing tribes standing at large logs -- place-markers -- showing off their wares and chatting with their neighbors.

____________________________

OOC NOTE:

Any kin is welcome to come and show the strange plants and oddities that they've found, or to browse what's been laid out by strangers. Since the festival is so large, it grows into a social occasion, so your kin could also just be there to meet up with others and converse!

If you're a tribe owner, and you're interested in hosting a 'booth' of sorts at the festival, we ask that you write up an opener for your own thread and PM it to and be blue to get approval to start your thread. This will help keep the clutter and the noise limited, and split into other threads, and will make it easier for you to further your tribe's goals, whatever they might be. Also, it'll allow people to participate in more than one thread with less confusion!

As always, participation in this ORP will count as an RP toward your Legendary requirements, and since there are several threads involved in this event, it'll allow for multiple opportunities, each one counting as its own RP!

At the end of the event, the 30th of June, we will award some prize wasps and moths out to people who have been active RPers.

It was still early morning when Art Beat arrived on the scene, stepping lightly through the light mist that clung to the air and glistened in the morning sun. Behind her were a colorful trio; a large painted turtle, and two scampering, chittering mongoose, all bearing bright and wonderful colors. The weasle-like rodents bounced around the turtle who carried Art Beats precious treasures in an over turned turtle shell with a missing bottom. It fit well on Slate's back and was reinforced by two vines that wrapped around him. Together they walked through the grounds, looking for a place to set up her gallery.

While this brightly decorated Acha could not grow a weed if she tried, there was one thing she could do. With her paints and pigments that she collected, Art Beat could breathe bright, colorful life into dull, otherwise boring objects. Once she found a good spot, one with lots of lighting and mostly dry grass, the gleeful Acha began to unpack her wares. Upon the soft green, she lay out shells of all kinds -- blue crab, horseshoe, turtle, and clam -- each delicately decorated with bright blooming flowers that her thin, brush-like tail had painted. While they weren't the real thing, she hoped with all her heart that some kin would see the beauty in her work. If not, well, some plants were very useful in her pigment making. If anything, Art Beat would be leaving with new ingredients, at the vary least.

"Brush, Stroke, Slate, stay close, okay?"

The Killing Moon was good at more things that any kin had a right to be, however, growing and caring for flowers and plants was not one of them. He had tried, but he was simply not dedicated enough. He would become distracted by so many other things, by the time he came back, his plants were either dead or at morphed into some overgrown weed state.

He could appreciate this festival and admire the skill that went into each display. The buck moved slowly into the clearing, taking his time in studying the wares on offer.

As Shadowed Moon walked into the clearing, currently sparse as only a few other kin had arrived, he glanced behind him at the twins and Sunlit Rock. Sunlit Rock especially seemed almost completely uninterested, with Watery Depths following in interest level and Murky Shallows seeming the most intrigued other then Shadowed Moon himself. This was their first time going to an event together, though him and the twins had told a few stories at some of the previous gatherings. They had chosen to leave the pets behind, as several new members had joined their little group, and the sudden increase of creatures unfamiliar had been a bit stressful.

Madness, the ramcat belonging to Sunlit Rock who had vanished for long enough they had all but forgotten her. In fact, Sunlit Rock had insisted the ramcat was male up until the point she had gone into heat, yowling and searching in vain for a male. At that point, there really was no denying it. Evergreen Berry, while still mischievous, had gotten out of her unwieldy phase only to be joined by Moon Phase. Moon Phase had simply seen Shadowed Moon and decided to stick around, which the buck had no objection to. However, the caiman seemed to enjoy snuggling up against him. While wet, dirty and covered in blood. Something he was having trouble getting him to stop. Amber was just being Amber, just the gurgle-ly turtle she generally was.

User Image User Image

Murky Shallows approached from behind his father, who was obviously lost in thought. He seemed to snap out of it as the rest of their small group drew closer, as they had been lagging behind. Partially to prevent Sunlit Rock from simply slowing to a stop and deciding not to join them. This was mostly his sister's choice, she had decided that if she had to go, so should Sunlit Rock. Glancing at his sister, he smiled lightly. She was obviously grumpy, mostly due to the fact she hadn't particularly wanted to leave this early, and partially because she didn't particularly like other kin. While his twin was perfectly happy in his company, and while she wouldn't admit it, enjoyed spending time with their father (and was rather tolerant of Sunlit Rock) most strangers simply received cold or snide remarks.

Watery Depths looked around, catching flashes of color from one of the only stalls currently set up. The Acha had brought along their pets, which Watery Depths would not have been able to do mostly because she did not have any, though she did not regret this. It would have been hard enough to enjoy the scenery and avoid the other kin without chasing around a mongoose or attempting to stop a caiman from eating the other critters. She had been fine with choosing to leave the others behind, but they had ended up only a short distance from the clearing. This was mostly to ensure they couldn't get lost, as even if they did they wouldn't wander to far from their original position especially with the lovely weather. Looking at her brother as he smiled at her, she gave him a look to show her lack of enthusiasm. This caused a chuckle.

User Image

Sunlit Rock seemed unsure of whether she wanted to continue into the clearing or not. So far, it didn't seem like much, though she imagined that was simply because of Shadowed Moon's insistence on leaving so early. She glanced at the twins, smiling in what was more of a smirk. "Now, you two aren't just going to stare at each other the whole time, are you?" She chuckled. "Not that there is much else to- Oh, my. I guess I was wrong." Sunlit Rock's eyes seemed to gleam as they landed on a rather interestingly colored buck. He seemed to be alone, and his red topped coat and flaming hair stood out quite a bit against his white fur and the green around them. She was obviously eyeing him.

While Watery Depths seemed to sigh in exasperation, and Murky Shallows didn't give much response. "That is a sight." The speckled doe added before moving toward the buck now in her sight. The other three kin with her simply continued on their way towards the only stand currently up, the one run by an Acha, after some pause and more exasperation from Watery Depths who was quickly soothed by her brother. Shadowed Moon had obviously only waited to see if she'd change her mind, something she tended to do when she lost interest. This buck however, was quite interesting. "Good morning." She said smiling, her voice rolling out in what was almost a laugh. "I've never seen markings quite like yours. I'm Sunlit Rock. It's a pleasure."

((Sunlit Rock is talking The Killing Moon, and Shadowed Moon and the twins (Murky Shallows and Watery Depths) are walking toward Art Beat. Wanted to make sure that was clear. xd People are free to interact with them together or separately, I just wanted them all here.))

Meat Vision's interest in the wares and displays was simply a passing fancy. A valid excuse to be in the presence of so many warm bodies. She liked being able to watch and stare, pretending her attention was drawn to a previously unseen sample of plant rather than the kin showing said specimen off. Conversation may or may not be welcomed, she hadn't had enough of it in this sort of crowd to know. Perhaps she will enjoy an exchange of opinions and experiences, even if she admits that hers was, regrettably, very limited.

Hush was excited for the festival. She didn't get to mingle with many kin, preferring the solitary lifestyle she'd chosen for herself. It wasn't that she disliked being with others, she simply enjoyed the quiet being alone afforded her. But, even she had to admit that after the rare few times her brother paid her a visit, she realized that the hustle and bustle of others wasn't so bad.

And that was why she was braving the crowd. Her heart beating so hard against her chest it feels like it'd burst. She was, quite honestly, little more than a bundle of nerves and anxious energy. Had it not been for the promise from a friend that they'd be there to meet her, the kimeti doe might have thought to back out.

((ooc: feel free to quote me if your kin wants to approach any of mine))

Corrosive enjoyed the flower festive for certain reasons. One was the flowers, the new and interesting and possibly poisonous plants. The second was to sell her mushroom crop. The doe held a large shell in her teeth, filled with vicious looking bright mushrooms. She settled down and stretched, nodding to her sister as Howl back placed down the rest of the mushrooms.

Howl back was relieved to stop being her sisters pack mule. She flickered her tail, leaving Corri to sell her mushrooms and started to explore the rest of the festive. It was lovely, the heavy thick scent of pollen and lush growing things, and she secretly could enjoy it.

Quiverstep weaved easily through the crowd, his faithful Primrose (and that Bug) following closely behind. He didn't usually wander away from his tribe but... MOTHERFATHER, DID THAT KIOKOTE HAVE SIX EYES?!?! The skittish Acha spun on his heels and ran back to safety. ((hurhur, I had to))

The little ragtag group walked slowly through the crowd. Despite the pets and the leaf-wrapped packages they carried, they managed to stay close together. Now and then, they stopped to sniff at a flower or admire a particularly fragrant bloom.

Essence notioned at a pretty yellow bunch. "Do we have these in your garden, Flowerpod? I don't think I've seen them before."
"Seems to be some sort of peony," Flowerpod sniffed at the bouquet and then smiled. "I'm certain you know just as well as I if we have this particular bloom or not."
Essence let her nose come closer to the flowers... "We don't but I don't like these -- though they are very pretty, good sir," she added, alarmed by the devasted look on the flower-owner's face.

The quiet buck had set up his wares on the edge of the crowd, carefully laying out bright lilies and peonies, blue cornflowers and sunny daffodils, all of them settled into their little pots - turtle shells Afterlight had filled with dirt. It had taken the buck some time to bring them all from his various spots in the swamp to this one place, since carrying the shells alone was not easy. He still wasn't entirely sure why he was here - to sell, to give away? To stutter at potential customers? The crowd was already intimidating the shy buck, but he maintained his position. He was shy, and unused to this many kin in one place, but each admiring glance - however rare, with his out-of-the-way position - made him preen quietly. These flowers were his pride and joy, the best ones carefully uprooted to display.

The twins seemed content to speak with each other as they glanced around at the various kin and the stalls while approached the one owned by the very colorful Acha who seemed to be painting. Shadowed Moon however held back, the twins seemed to be enjoying themselves just fine, and Sunlit Rock had already wondered off. Glancing around he caught the sight of a buck who seemed to be setting up near the very edge of the clearing. Watching as the buck pulled up shells filled with plants he decided he would return to the Acha's stall later, and let the twins get their fill now. Leaving them to approach the painter he headed toward the green and brown buck.

The buck seemed to have carefully arranged the shells, and Shadowed Moon glanced over the flowers slowly as he approached. This buck had brought quite a few, some he had never seen before. Several were such brilliant shades he actually stopped on his way over to the stall to simply stare at them before remembering what he was doing. Shaking his head and feeling a bit like a child he finished his walk and looked at the buck. The buck's fur was patterned like leaves, making him fit in rather well with all the plants. Shadowed Moon glanced at the plants before smiling at the buck. "These are quite amazing, I don't think I've seen any so bright before." He said, shifting a bit to the side to get a better look at one of the flowers. "Do you find them are did you grow these yourself? They're very lovely." The last part was almost a side thought, as Shadowed Moon was once again distracted by the strangely bright petals.

When the Rain Comes had caught word of this gathering - of - sorts while on his morning trek through the forest that morn. Just the thought of a flower festival had his mind racing. What kind of flowers would be there? Hopefully ones he hadn't encountered yet. Should he bring something? Rain decided to gently unearth one of his favorite flowers, which was decorated with light, dainty colors. It's stem, he remembered, had a slight sour taste. He slowly made his way over the the misty land, careful not to jostle his flower. Once he arrived, he focused on planting the flower in the nice damp soil. Once his task was done, he slowly traversed the gathering, gazing with wonder at all of the different flowers.

For now, she tilted her head in curiosity, her sole pair of genuine eyes immediately drawn to the does with the mushrooms. Now those type of plants she had a real interest in. Quietly, she approached the ram-horned doe just after the blue doe left. Guts wasn't adverse to groups but in such a situation, she would have preferred a conversation between just two individuals.

"You have some eye-catching wares, here," she smiled, stopping in front of the mushroom-filled shell.

So while Above was out and about she found out about these plants and flowers that others where growing and showing. What a better way to find out if something would work back with the others! Giggling to herself, the acha made way over to see if there was anything of usefulness. She might even run into another considering she hadn't met them all.

She had yet to find a flower that would bring happiness to someone. At least not even partial or even platonic feelings. Maybe this would be the area. Stepping around the area, making sure not to walking on any new growths, Sweet shook her head at how many were already there. This could be interesting.

"Ohh, while thank you," Corrosive said, barely giving a pause as she considered the Kio's markings? She watched for a few seconds and decided they were markings, they did not focus, they did not blink like the ones drawned to her wares. Now she really needed to see this Kio, fully.

The doe stood, and grin. "Hope you don't mind giving you a look-see. Those eye markings are superber. Do they scare of large predators?" She questioned and trotted around the doe, taking in the other marking on her side.

Whether it was because he liked making her uncomfortable, or whether on some level he liked making her happy with all of the ridiculous flowers, Hear Me Roar did not know -- either way, every time, he enjoyed Beauty's reaction to them.

The buck stood at the edge of the clearing, where shade gave way to sunlight, and lashed his tail behind him, waiting. Eventually, he looked over his shoulder for the kiokote, blinking mildly at her. "Maybe you'll find something you like."

When Art Beat was finally set up, not only did she have ten or so shells and stones laying about her furry feet, but she also had a set of baby turtle shells and a small amount of the ingredients she needed to make the five colors she would need; Black from charcoal, painstakenly scavenged at the sacred mound where the fire festival had been held; White from the shells of the sea; Red from gathered beetles; Yellow from the ochre clay beneith the rivers by the mountains; And blue, her rarest color, from the ever so hard to find indigo plant that she is ever so hoping to find here. With these, she can make any color in any shade.

Slate had just returned with a shell of water, when Art Beat saw the pale colored twins approach. She removed her hoof from the shell of flax seeds that she was crushing for oil and stood to greet them.

"Hiya!" She beamed, her pink and white hair bouncing, and bright eyes shining.
