Getting Started
Welcome, new member!
Introduction Welcome to the Otherworld guild. Now that you're here, what do you do? You may be feeling a little lost. No worries! The captain and crew are here to help. Just read this handy section. If you have any questions afterwards, please feel free to PM the captain or a crew member; we will help you until you can stand on your feet.
What Do I Do First? First, you should be familiar with this world. Please read A Brief History. This is where you will find information on the politics, more recent world history, and information on the various lands as they are discovered. This is updated every so often as you encounter new lands and species, wars are started or ended, politics take a turn, etc. Whenever it is updated, there will be a guild announcement. Please make sure to check this on such occasions to keep up to date on important news.
Next, please become familiar with the Guild Rules. These are important rules to help you and other members get along and unleash your creativity. These are currently being reviewed. They may be changed later on; in this case, there will be a guild announcement.
Now What? Well, now that you have read what the guild is all about, take a look around the Main RP forum, the Mini RP forum, and our new and popular High School RP. Each forum has an About post at the top, which tells you the forum rules and everything you need to know about the forum.
One thing that is a MUST: When you join an existing RP, you must have read all of the previous posts so that you know what is going on. If you don't, you will not survive long. (Yes, your characters can be killed. When this happens, you simply make a new one and continue on, or start/join a new thread. If you ask nicely, your character can be resurrected after a brief time. More info in the character section below.)
Once you decide what RP you want to join, (or if you want to start a thread in the Main RP forum or Mini RP forum), you need to set about making a character.
Creating a Character Now you're ready to create a character. There are many restrictions put in place to keep members from overpowering a character and abusing other characters. Due to this, all characters you create (with the exception of some Mini RPs) must go through an approval process. For the Main RP (which we encourage all members to join), we give you a few suggestions of the most common types of characters found in Otherworld. You do not have to stick to these; we applaud creativity. However, you must post your image and ideas in the Approval Thread. Then, wait for a PM. The PM will ask questions about your character and make minor adjustments (if any). After it is approved, you may post your character in the Introduction Thread.
The High School RP forum operates a little differently. The information is the About post. Once you post your first profile post, post a second reserved post beneath it. You may only join if you are crew, if you have 25+ post, OR you ask the captain via PM and are approved.
Eventually, you may have more than one character. It all depends on your post count and your level of activity.
What do you do if your character dies? Mourn your loss and create another. You can join the same RP, or you can join/create another. Particularly attached to your character? Create a second character to play and request that your previous be resurrected. If resurrection is approved, you will use your new character to quest with the others to bring your old character back to life. What do you do when your character is alive once more? Continue to play both, or kill/send your second character away. Just make sure that there is an explanation of where the character went.
I've Created My Own RP. Now What? Congratulations! Creating your own RP is a great step and you've opened yet another place for more members to interact. We thank you!
That being said, one of the most difficult things is getting people to join your RP. But worry not! As soon as possible, the captain or crew member (or a guild member, if you are lucky) will create a character and jump in. Sometimes, this turns into a 1x1 RP, but sometimes you will attract many characters. Either way, as long as there's interaction, we count this a success!
Gotten bored with your RP thread? No problem. If there is more than one other member posting in your thread, phase yourself out. Maybe kill off your character. The others will continue on. If there is only one other player, please notify that member and a member of the crew. Wrap it up with the other player to give the story closure. When you are finished, create a post in the thread saying "The End". Your topic will then be locked and you're free to make another character and join or start another thread.
1000⁺ Years Beyond This is an RP forum for crew only. This may seem unfair, but think of it as a reward for all the hard work they put into the guild. You may be able to join if you have a very high post count, you actively participate in the guild activities and discussions, and you follow all the guild rules. Once you have met these three requirements, you may request via PM to the captain.
Other Things To Do Now that you've joined an RP thread, you have to keep it active by posting regularly. While you wait for your RP partner(s) to reply, check out some other guild features!
Azure City Central, currently under construction, is for RP trials, RP trade, RP politics, and Quests. What are Quests? They are plot lines! A plot will be posted on the "Notice Board" (ex. "Warriors for Hire", "Bounty Hunters Needed", "Treasure Seekers Wanted", "Monster Terrorizes Village", etc.); you or two plus members can pick one off the board and engage in an RP along that line. It's a fun and easy way to RP without having to do all the hard work of coming up with plot devices.
What you will do for Quests is simply post in the appropriate thread the title of the Quest you choose. If there are other members that want to join, jot down their name as well. After a day or two (to allow others to see and join in), the Quest will be removed from the board and you will begin your Quest!
The Guild Arcade is mainly filled with quizzes, but will sometimes have dice games and other games. Occasionally, there will also be a poll to decide contests. Contests are a fun way to win gold and items. There are poetry contests, photography contests, avatar contests, and more.
The Chatter forum is a place where you can post anything and everything you want, as long as it complies with the Gaia TOS. This includes art, gifs, random spam and chats, poetry, short stories, discussions, etc. It's a great way to boost post count and pass the time.
The Goblin Market. It's coming soon. It includes The Myth Masque: An Eternal Masquerade, Carnival of Sins and Delights, Smoke and Mirrors, and more! It is a place of eternal night with magic, mystery, and pleasure for all the senses: gambling, shows, murder, intrigue, Quests, and so much more. You can play as your favorite RP character, borrow one of our pre-made characters, or play your ideal person or creature. You can be anything you want to be and indulge your hedonistic tendencies. The only restriction: your character's picture must be a real image - not animated, drawn, cartoon, CGI, etc. It must be a real photo, but it can be a manipulated photo.
Make sure to keep checking the forums: new ones pop up every once in a while and there are always tons of events: Season events, holiday events, games, and even the annual Otherworld Ball.
All that's left is to say welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay. Please ask us if you have any questions. We're only too happy to help.

Otherworld Military Ranking System
Subject to change.
From Lowest to Highest
Servants who fight with their masters in war -Written "Soldier Servant [name]"
Common soldiers -Written "Soldier [name]"
Officer: Must have 10 years experience. -Written "Officer [name]"
2nd Lieutenant: Must have 15 years experience.
1st Lieutenant: Must have 20 years experience plus honors.
Captain*: 30 years experience and honors, as well as having been in combat. Also known as "General" in the Eastern Territory.
Major: 40 years experience, honors, nominated by a superior, and at least one war.
Lieutenant Colonel: 55 years experience, honors, nominated by a superior, and at least one war.
Colonel: 75+ years, honors, nominated by a superior, and at least one war.
There are others beyond this, but most don't achieve the titles.
*Most can only achieve this rank. Humans (those with a normal life span) usually never see past the rank of Major. Natives to Otherworld (without powers or any special races; just those who look and act like humans) have a life span of around 180-300 years (normally) and their appearance ages much slower than that of a human. It is possible for a native to be 80 and still appear 30-40 years. If you are in the military, in your character introduction you MUST have your rank before your name. I will not allow anyone above the rank of Major.
