Wane felt odd going out alone, sneaking off from her twin, but she has a surprise and wants to keep it that way. Not long ago she'd met a buck, Blackberry, and now Wane suspects she is pregnant. No, she knows, on some instinctual level, that she carries new life. It's been hard keeping her excitement from bubbling up and out, but she's done it. Blackberry should be the first one told, but before she seeks him out Wane wants the assurance that their young will be healthy.
Keeping such an important secret from her twin, Wax, has been a trail all its own. Every minute of every day she's had to bite back the words - sometimes having to go so far as biting her tongue - to keep them in. Wax should know, being as close as they are. Only the fact that Wane firmly believes the father should know first, and that she wants a blessing before telling anyone has been able to keep her silent on the matter.
So, here she is, sneaking away from home and wandering all through the swamp looking for some sign of the MotherFather's chosen. In her mouth she carries a small trinket, a stone that looks somewhat like a snail shell. She and Wax had worked their magic on it, turning it into a charm to keep one full of energy. Surely one as old as Her chosen must need extra energy.
Fish Bones had been watching this bright doe wander in near circles for hours. He's usually gone to see a kin before now, but this one puzzles him. She seems more nervous then he's used to, preoccupied with who might be behind her, jumpy too. And that shell in her mouth, carried so carefully it is obvious she places value in it.
Fish Bones keeps pace with her, hidden in the brush, for a while longer before he darts ahead of her. He's made up his mind, he'll go out and see this doe. If she's looking for him, he'll know. Turning, Fish Bones comes out onto the path and stops, watching Wane as she approaches. Hello. He thinks to her when she's about a body length away from him.
When the foxbun came onto the path Wane gave him little though, except to wish she'd brought Flood, some meat would be nice about now. And then she heard someone speak. Coming to a halt and turning full circle Wane looks for who'd addressed her, and sees no one. Turning back she almost trips over the foxbun, who's come closer - and is only saved by his own quick reflexes. Backing up, Wane gives the little creature a careful look. Wild foxbuns don't sneak up on kin, she thinks, giving him a puzzled frown.
Sitting on his haunches, Fish Bones waves at her. Didn't mean to startle you. he thinks.
Wane gasps, the snail shell-stone falling from her mouth. "You talk!" She exclaims. Then her memory catchs up with her, she'd heard that Her chosen can take many forms. "I've come to beg a favor, a blessing." she states, picking up the dropped stone and carrying it over to him. Carefully she sets it in front of Fish Bones. "A gift, a charm to increase your energy." She explains.
Fish Bones looks at the stone, noting it's spiraled appearance to a shell. Just when he's about to reply she adds the bit about it being a charm. Giving it a closer look, Fish Bones wonders if it could really work, if non-chosen kin can perform such magic. Something to test later, he thinks to himself. But, weather it works or not the gift is thoughtful. Looking up at her he smiles and nods. Thank you. he replies, turning to give the charm another look, then turns back to study the doe. May your young be graced with good fortune. he says, deciding a kin who believes in magic would find luck a fitting blessing.
Wane smiles when he blesses her children, happy at the words spoken (thought? she hasn't decided yet). Thank you! she says, excitement clear in her voice. Bending down, she nuzzles him. Thank you. she says again, feeling that words are not enough to convey her feelings.
Fish Bones returns the nuzzle and replies with a simple, Your welcome. Scooping the charm into his own mouth, he gives her ankle a pat before loping off into the brush.
Wane watches him go, a grin still on her face. Now time to go find Blackberry, and then Wax. She thinks, turning to go do so.
