Vesta smiled down at Azar's cubs. She adored cubs and, in recent times, had begun to shift into a state of broodiness. A shame, then, that a male was needed for cubs and she was too shy to tell the male she admired that she liked him more than just a friend. "Let's go then, with the way things look, they could do with the help."
And, with a smile down at the cub, the young female struck out towards the flooded wells just in time to hear Hraga calling for them to spread out. "Hm." She drew up short and cast a look around her. "There are a few dips just over there." She replied, her knowledge of the land coming in handy. "Perhaps we can try there?" With work she seemed to become a little more confident.
Still, someone had not followed them.
The dappled female threw back her head. "Fia?"
But the dark historian was standing alone in the rain, ears flat and eyes turned upwards.
"Fia..."

Roihu wasn't going to be the last lion to help. All around him, lions had been forming trenches and holes to catch the water. He was somewhat confused at first - wouldn't the ground merely soak all of the water up? Even with the holes forming, they would need to be lined with rocks to keep any of the water from draining away. Roihu had used pelts to hold small sacks of water to drip down the throats of his injured pridemembers - a trick he'd learned from watching his father. Perhaps the should line the ditches with pelts? But there would never be enough for that. Not like it mattered at this point -many of the holes were overflowing, the dry land beginning to flood. Everything was so dry, so sandy, that it was becoming easily corroded and washed away. That, of course...meant rockslides. Landslides, even - and there were strange, thunderous sounds in the distance.
His black pelt appeared rich and slick as he was soaked. There was no chance of shelter, and this was certainly not the time to find any. The dust of the land was gathering on his legs and paws as mud, making it more difficult to defend any of the trenches. He could feel himself getting sucked into the mud around him, but he heard a call to spread out to further holes, several of the ones nearby already overflowing. So he dragged his feet through the mud to one further out - his back ached at the exertion, but the rain was almost like an irritating massage. Fortunately, this hole not terribly full yet, and well-built. There would be no need to add more rocks for some time. Perhaps I should help someone else? he thought, glancing around at the others still struggling with their holes. There were several out here that still had yet to be checked.

Sozin glanced down, frowning slightly as he noticed another of his cubs by his paws, soaked. Where on Kalama? Shouldn't she be...attending to the cubs or something? He huffed, but answered his daughter anyway. "They are trying to save water from the rain, so that the drought we have been experiencing does not happen again for a while," he explained, glancing non-committal towards the group of lions at the water.
That's when he noticed his other daughter, Kiun, very close to the water. "Kiun!" he bellowed, startling his son by his feet and the daughter some distance away.
Kiun glanced back, noticing the thunderous expression on her father's face and quickly scurried back to him, dodging the water, and narrowly missing being swept away by one of the hole's flooding near her. She squeaked and quickly made her way, soaked, back to her father. "Sorry Father!" She gasped out, upon arriving at his side.
Sozin scowled, glancing first at his wayward daughter, then son by his paws and finally the daughter who had approached. "Stay by my side," he commanded briskly. He didn't really want them with him, but if three of his cubs perished, he might be left with only his huria son to carry on his genetic line and that would be tragic.

Meka could only look on in horror as his watering hole not only flooded, but also flooded the hole of a nearby worker as well. Seeing the look sent his way, Meka looked more horrified. Damn it, Meka, he yelled inwardly, before wiping his face clean of emotions. Getting annoyed wasn't going to fix this, he had to keep helping the pride.
Noticing the male who's efforts he had flooded walking away, Meka jogged to catch up to him. "I am so sorry!" the male said swiftly, not above apologising. He offered a tight, apologetic smile that looked quite painful.

Mat waited anxiously for her mother's approval, doing a little dance in the mud. When she got like this she called it 'happy paws'. She couldn't control them even if she tried. The mud made her dark coat brown around her feet, but everyone else was having the same problem, so she didn't think much of it. That, and it felt kinda nice between her toes. This squishy dirt was really fun!
Finally Azar agreed. Mat let out an excited whoop but stuck close, as she was told. Had this been a normal day she might have tested her mother's patience, but this rain thing was new and just a little big scary...not that she'd admit that. Plus, the water was starting to get higher in some places, and there were loud noises that were making the bigger lions worried.
She didn't want to appear afraid, though, so she stuck by Azar's side rather than walking under her. She paused and looked back at her aunt, a curious look on her face. She didn't seem to want to move, so with a quick look up at her mother, she darted over to the other lioness.
"Hey!" she said, looking up into the rain at Fia. "C'mon! There's lotsa fun stuff happening and you gotta come!" She butted her head lightly against her aunt's leg to get her attention, a little frown on her face.

Vesta was about to suggest they leave Fia to her own devices when the cub, Mate'moto, was moving across to where she stood. "Perhaps your daughter will be able to get through to her better than we can." The small female reasoned. "Come, let's go and help them." She offered the brigadier a timid smile and dipped her head briefly again through respect.
She always did feel nervous around superiors, even if they were reasonable like Azar was.
Still, nervous or not, Vesta was a dedicated lioness and she would stick by Azar unless some incident caused them to part ways. She would not be rude enough to just slip off without a word. "I will follow, Brigadier Azar."
Fia blinked at the sudden voice down by her paws and looked down just as the cub butted against her foreleg. That little frown. That insistence. Yes. She was a relative, all right. Still, seeing the cub so full of life and eager to help. What was she doing here moping? Karana would have helped, wouldn't she? Of course she would.
"Well then." She replied. "Let's get to it, shall we? Lead the way, and watch your step."

Oh! There was just so much going on! Keegan saw so many lions moving around, and so many cubs, and... oh, and Fia! She liked Fia, who had been her mother's friend. I never remember if Fia is Keegan's adopted mom, or another couple. So sorry! And when she saw another cub go over to the Historian, well... she felt inexplicably jealous!
Not wanting to be left behind, she hurried on over through the wet sand, somehow managing not to get stuck anywhere and even rather easily slipping between Fia's hind paws to come up at her side. "Fia!" She greeted cheerfully. "And you," She was a cub, and cub's weren't always good at being polite, so she sounded rather less excited about Mate'moto. "Hi, I'm Keegan." Maybe she knew this cub, but Keegan was bad with names.
-
Karama showed up a little tardy because she'd been forced to deal with her reject son. Y'know, that dumb golden cub that had somehow come out of her. Unfortunately she was required to look out for his safety, and while she didn't make much of an effort to keep him happy, she couldn't let the thing drown.
Her solution had been toss him in the den, tell him to stay put or else [thought she didn't care that much if he did, she had tried!], then go find the cubs that actually mattered.
She did find them soon enough, just as Kiun barely escaped being caught up in the flood. she immediately became angered with Sozin, for failing to properly keep an eye on their daughter and nearly letting her drown, or something. She had no idea why he seemed to dislike that one, by Kalama's standards Kiun was fairly perfect.
She hurried over, and didn't bother to greet Sozin, but smiled at her cubs. Kalama's smiles would never look kindly, but the kids made her proud, even when they weren't doing anything. "Cubs!" She had no interest in helping with the digging just yet. Awesome cubs first, stupid hole later.
But only three of them where here! "Where are your sisters?" By her count, three of them were not present. Roihuta'ssa, Tim-timana and Vatra. She assumed they might just be in a den, but it'd be nice if one of them knew where they were. Kalama had been training before being forced to deal with Tundu, so her information on the whereabouts of the cubs was outdated.

Despite all his faults, at least it could not be said that Yayuka wasn't diligent. He would complain many times in his mind over what was going on, as the rain poured down and soaked up his mane, weighing it down and he scrambled around through the wetness. Worst of all was his ear. Since the Nergui had done him the favor of tearing off his ear flap, water was just pouring into the unprotected ear. It was horribly annoying.
But he worked on! Bravely he tried to secure his trench, trying to keep it from flooding over, trying to make it all right.
He failed spectacularly. He groaned as he pulled himself away from the water and glanced around to find something else to work on. He ended up seeing Aithne, beautifully falling on her face, and in the sand-mud. He smiled a bit as he watched her free herself, then made his way over. "Hello, darling!"

Mat continued to frown up at Fia, her ears back and eyes squinting a bit against the rain. She waited for the lioness to look down at her before lifting her ears and, when she agreed to follow, the frown disappeared as well. Hurrah! "Good," she said with a big grin. "Let's go dig some ho-"
But she was cut off as another cub suddenly appeared right in front of her, between Fia's legs. She blinked in surprise, completely startled, but finally the words from the other cub reached her ears.
"Mate'moto," she returned, unsure about this new cub but not about to appear that way. "But everyone calls me Mat. So you can, too." She stood a bit taller after that, trying to show off how grown up she was. "We're gonna go dig some holes. You wanna come?"
