The Final Third (Open and Accepting)

Abominable Snowgirl

Poppy's concentration was faltering at the sound of Petunia's cries and hoof scraping. She wondered for a moment, staring into the dragon's eyes, if she had done something wrong. Was the fawn simply acting as prey, lying in wait for the right moment to attack? Poppy would be sorely sorry for stepping in then. As long as she didn't hurt the dragon too much. Poppy believed in violence as a last resort. The most she planned to do with Jimmy was restrain him and get him to back off.

Petunia's emotions got the best of her, and it came out in short sobs. Poppy looked over to see her bowing graciously. To this she raised an eyebrow. "Uh... no no no. Please don't bow." Poppy blushed despite herself. Artemis then made her appearance and held her hand out. To this she replied, "It's um... I'm a yeti. And when life hands you lemons." Poppy gave a short giggle. Gave Artemis' hand a shake. She felt something slip her other hand. "Just a second."

Jimmy, finally freed, tried to lash at Poppy with both claws. He succeeded with three thin slash marks on her arm. This made a kind yeti go mad. She seized one of his T-Rex sized arms and threw him to the ground. Then she flipped him over, sat on his back and rubbed at his underarms. From this the most shocking sound, laughter, came out of the dragon. "Will you quit being a jerk?!" Poppy prodded. Jimmy squirmed anxiously, wishing he could tear away, into the sky. His unstoppable chuckles locked up the muscles of his chest and back. His only method of begging for mercy was smacking his tail to the ground. Later, it would hurt his pride, but for now he had no choice. The yeti hopped off his back and the dragon slithered steadily passed the arches of the school. She turned to Artemis and Petunia, ignoring the large confused circle of mutants. "My name is Poppy. Pleasure to meet you." She covered her arm and smiled sheepishly.

Petunia blushed when the yeti insisted that she not bow. Well then...what am I supposed to do? How else am I supposed to show my gratitude? she thought. She stared at the girl with wide, grateful eyes, and decided in that moment that she was going to try to be friends with this girl. Petunia was still on the ground, recovering from the shock of being saved, when something swooped down from the sky and landed behind her. Chills ran up and down her spine. She didn't like winged creatures: when they were bigger than her it meant trouble. She turned her head slightly, trembling. Her eyes opened at what she saw. A girl stood behind her. A girl with fiery red hair, piercing green eyes, and great black dragon wings. As if the wings weren't terrifying enough on their own, the girl also had horns and a tail. Petunia squeaked and scrambled away from her towards the life-saving yet-girl. She was pleasantly surprised that the yeti spoke to this girl. She's so nice to everybody, she thought admiringly. She was still staring in silent admiration of her new idol when she noticed Jimmy scratch at the yeti. Petunia gasped, her whole body convulsing at the horrifying sight of Jimmy's great claws. She expected the yeti to be badly injured, but the only injury to the skin were three small scratches. She swallowed nervously at this snowgirl's amazing skin. She was even more nervous when the snowgirl snapped. Petunia jumped back from the girl as she wrestled with Jimmy, and tickled him into submission. She was grateful when Jimmy finally slithered off into the school. Wait...school! We're all going to be late! She tried to scramble to her feet, but as she wasn't completely used to her hooves yet, she simply lay there flailing about helplessly. She resembled a great pink tuna flopping around haplessly, trying to get back into its element but to no avail. Finally she gave up and lay there, looking up embarrassed at Poppy and the dragon-girl.

Artemis smiled at the yeti-girl, giggling at her explanation. When the snowgirl shook her hand, Artemis admired her firm grip. "When life hands you lemons, huh?" Artemis grinned. She noticed Jimmy scratch at the snowgirl, and hissed. She backed away, still afraid of the full-blood dragon. Her hiss was cut short when the yeti forced Jimmy to the ground. The dragon within Artemis reveled at the possibility of violence in the near future, and her human side reeled at the image of a battle between a yeti and a dragon. Luckily, all Artemis did was tickle the large brute. Artemis sighed with relief, although her stomach churned at the sound and sight of the dragon's laugh. She liked this girl even more now, and smiled. She noticed how the fawn reacted as well. She smiled down at her, hoping to make the girl feel more at ease. She looked back up when the yeti, Poppy, introduced herself. "I...like you Poppy. I-I think we're going to be good friends." Artemis said, smiling sweetly. She giggled at the yeti's blush. She was about to comment on how cute it was when the scrambling noise came again, louder this time. She looked down to see the fawn trying in vain to stand. She couldn't help but to chuckle, and bit her lip to hold back her laughs. This poor, innocent, helpless creature was so endearing. Artemis smiled again when the girl looked up in defeat.
