On April 4th, 1983, the first wave came. Its epicenter was in Australia, and it quickly spread around the world, mutating approximately one third of the human population into creatures from legends. Nobody knows what caused it. Some say it was an act of a god, while others say it was the work of a scientist. With it, books appeared in homes around the world, with instructions on how to take care of the mutated people. Unfortunately, some humans became jealous and started to persecute the mutated people. Though this wasn't legal, it still happened, and even sparked a small war.

On December 21st, 1994, the second wave happened. This time, its origin was traced to Mexico, and mutated another third of the human population. After this day, the anti-mutant groups started to fade into obscurity as the majority became the minority, though some still persisted to this day.

This day is the day of the third and final wave. All remaining humans will cease to be human. How will the world cope?

1. Follow guild rules and Gaia TOS at all times.
2. Your character can be a creature from a legend, even an urban legend. However! If you're going to be something like a unicorn or dragon, you must be an anthropomorphized (humanised) version.
3. Your character can also be half human, and have "diluted" traits. For example, a dhampyr would have less trouble with the sun, a less severe reaction to garlic, and less hunger for blood. Or, your character can be a halfbreed, and have traits of both parents. However, a half human or half breed must be under 28.
4. This rule is about magic. ANYONE can be a "caster" on top of what they already are. There are also casters that are just casters. There's a limitation to what a caster can use, and it is only in one field. For example, a caster of illusion can cause hallucinations, while a caster of invisibility can turn things invisible. As there is a wide variety of fields, I'm gonna have to say that a maximum of five casters can share the same field in this RP.
5. Please don't kill or hideously maim a character without their player's consent.
6. You can have up to a maximum of five characters.
7. To keep this RP neat and clean, I want you to PM me your profile entitled "Well, this is new."
8. I forgot to add this, but the methods of becoming a legendary creature from the actual legends don't work.

Pʀᴏғɪʟᴇs
Nᴀᴍᴇ:
Aɢᴇ:
Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: (What legend are you? If your character is half human, put that here as well.)
Cᴀsᴛᴇʀ?: (Yes or no. If so, what kind.)
Bɪᴏ: (Please don't kill off your character's parents. I'm sure your character's parents are pleasant people who do not need to be killed. On this note, please don't destroy their entire village or whatever as well. Also, if your character was human before the third wave, say so.)
Dᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ:
Oᴛʜᴇʀ:
Pʟᴀʏᴇʀ:

Nᴀᴍᴇ: Amy Bell
Aɢᴇ: 18
Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: Dhampyr
Cᴀsᴛᴇʀ?: Amy is a caster of stealth, meaning that she can make her presence less known to others.
Bɪᴏ: Amy was born on the day of the second wave, around the origin. It's been theorized that she or her birth may have caused it. She doesn't believe a word of those theories. Her mother moved her to a place where the sun was less likely to bother her.
Dᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ: Amy has black hair cut short, with a white streak in her bangs. Her eyes are grey and she often wears eyeliner. Her chest is sort of flat, she's skinny, tall, and she doesn't seem to like skirts. It wouldn't be too strange to see her wearing something like this.
Oᴛʜᴇʀ: She's currently dating Griffin Cambell.
Pʟᴀʏᴇʀ: Kez Mani

Nᴀᴍᴇ: Griffin Cambell
Aɢᴇ: 17
Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: Caster
Cᴀsᴛᴇʀ?: Caster of Invisibility.
Bɪᴏ: Griffin's life was pretty unimpressive. He's not into sports, but likes art and music. He plays the cello, shamisen, and guitar, and wants to become a doctor one day. On the day of the third wave, he became a caster.
Dᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ: Griffin is an albino. He has astigmatism and wears eyeglasses to correct his vision. It wouldn't be too unusual to see him wear something like this.
Oᴛʜᴇʀ: He's currently dating Amy Bell.
Pʟᴀʏᴇʀ: Kez Mani

Nᴀᴍᴇ: Artemis O' Reilly
Aɢᴇ: 19
Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: Half-breed dragon (mixed with human and dragon)
Cᴀsᴛᴇʀ?: Caster of fire
Bɪᴏ: Her mother had been affected by the second wave just months before Artemis's birth. The wave mutated her mother into a full dragon, and affected Artemis to a certain degree as well. Artemis was born looking like a normal human, save for the tiny wings, tail, and the horns on her head. She also had the ability to fly, and breathe fire. Her father, horrified at the two mutants in his home, abandoned them shortly after the child's birth. They have not heard from him ever since, but the two never lose hope.
Dᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ: Artemis is short and somewhat thin. She has annoyingly large breasts that sometimes get in her way, and brings unwanted attention. Her hair is long, curly and a pretty chestnut color. Her eyes were brown at birth, but mutated to a piercing green. She's very girly and can almost always be found in a skirt. She looks something like this
Oᴛʜᴇʀ: Artemis is a lesbian
Pʟᴀʏᴇʀ: darlindol17

Nᴀᴍᴇ: Poppy Flores Arguedas
Aɢᴇ: 18
Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: Yeti with diluted traits (half-human)
Cᴀsᴛᴇʀ?: No
Bɪᴏ: Poppy was a year old when the second wave made its way to Panama. That was when her birth parents abandoned her, seeing she'd developed pelts of fur on her forearms and lower leg. She claims it a small matter, currently living with two loving adoptive Sasquatches for parents. They keep her room perfectly chilled, for which she's eternally grateful. Her and her parents moved to the US--before her parents fully mutated--when she was 6.
Dᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ: Poppy wears her hair short, barely to her neck, and messy thanks to curls that never know which way to go; her hair is now fully white. Her only normal characteristics are her dark brown eyes and love of skirts and dresses. A scruff of fur covers her neck, she has built-in arm warmers, and from the knee down is strictly yeti--including five small claws pointing out of each foot. See also: This base and this girls blue scheme and yeti features make up Poppy.
Oᴛʜᴇʀ: She is not a caster, but there are helpful perks to being a yeti.
Pʟᴀʏᴇʀ: The Maharani

Nᴀᴍᴇ: Petunia Fitzjerald
Aɢᴇ: 19
Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: Faun
Cᴀsᴛᴇʀ?: No
Bɪᴏ: Petunia was born and raised in Ireland. Her mother and father were very distant, and never paid much attention to her. She learned as a child that to be silent was to be accepted, so she rarely speaks and is very shy. Her parents were mutated by the third wave into fierce wolves, and became even more hostile towards their daughter. She ran away, and has been living in the woods by herself for her safety.
Dᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ: After the wave, Petunia grew hooves, a tail, and antlers. Her skin turned into dappled pink fur. Her eyes and hair likewise turned pink. She always wears light colors, usually pink or white. She had always been very thin and of average height, with a flat chest. She looks somewhat like this
Oᴛʜᴇʀ: Petunia is terrified of just about everything, especially carnivores and fire. She can run at amazing speeds.
Pʟᴀʏᴇʀ: darlindol17

⊰Gʀɪғғɪɴ Cᴀᴍʙᴇʟʟ⊱

Griffin woke up with a fuzzy feeling in his head, and reached for his glasses. Groggily, he got up and went to the bathroom, starting his normal morning routine. As he started to brush his teeth, his toothbrush started to fade. Confused, he set it on the side of the sink, nothing that a toothbrush-shaped bubble of foam was present when it completely disappeared. Slowly, why it was happening dawned on him. "It... it finally happened. Mother of god." People had predicted that the third wave would happen in his life time, just... sooner. They'd gotten worried when it was late, and some people had started to believe it wouldn't happen.

His mind raced with the things he'd have to do now. He'd have to register with the government, and he would have to wear a limiting charm when he was at school, but other then that, life would be interesting. Then, he noticed the bathroom counter fading out of sight from where he touched it and sighed. He had a lot to learn.

Artemis dreamed about her father. In her dream, he was home with her and her mother. She was a young girl in the dream, completely free of mutations: no wings, tail, no horns, and no fire that erupted from her throat when she was angry. Her mother was back to normal too, and they were all happy and smiling. In her dream, Artemis's mother was wrapped in her father's arms, and they both outstretched her arms to the child. Giggling, dream Artemis ran to them. It was a happy dream, but all of a sudden it turned dark. The earth shook, and a blinding red light forced the child to stop in her tracks. A searing pain ripped through her own body, and she heard the screams of her mother as well. Something was happening to them, and it would change their lives forever. When the light faded, Artemis looked up. Her mother had been changed into a dragon, and her father was gone. She tried to call out, to ask what was going on, but all that came from her throat was fire. She was a monster, and so was her mother. She crumbled to the ground in tears, and slowly began to die.
Artemis woke from the dream screaming. She shivered, and looked up at the night sky above her. She wrapped her wings tight around herself, and snuggled into her mother's scaly side. Her mother was fast asleep, and her great wings twitched slightly at the movement of her child. Artemis noticed that their fire was dying, and blew a quick fiery breath at i. The small embers turned to large crackling inferno. This is my life now, she though despondently. How many others's lives have been ruined? How many others will have their lives ruined in the future? She sighed, and left her mother's side to curl around the fire. Comforted by the warmth, she relaxed her wings from around herself, and fell back to sleep.

Amy looked up from her book to turn on the news. Her mother hissed a little, then went up to her room. "Sorry, Mom." Amy muttered. She knew her mom was photosensitive, as was she to a certain extent. So, she watched the news. A winged news reporter talked about how the highly anticipated third wave had happened overnight. And I slept through it. She'd heard it was easy to sleep through, and that most people thought it was better to do so. She'd heard some mutations were painful.

She put down the book and started to get ready for school. Amy didn't sleep much, and had been awake for a few hours. For a moment, she considered calling Griffin to see how he was doing, but seeing as she would see him in an hour, she decided it could wait. Besides, her... "problem day" was around this time. She needed to prepare, in case she got... hungry.

(OOC: It's fine. I'm actually feeling a little under the weather today.)

It was early morning when Artemis awoke. The sky was not yet light, and one could faintly see the moon perched on the sky's bosom. She preferred this time of day; it wasn't too dark for her human side, and it wasn't too light for the dragon within her. She looked down, and noticed that the fire had gone out while she had been asleep. She growled at the ashes and walked back to her mother's impressive figure, curling up beneath one of the dragon's wings. Her mother must have sensed the movement, because one piercing green eye opened, and turned to observe the child. Artemis thumped good morning with her tail. Her mother had not been able to talk since the second wave, although she had ensured that Artemis knew how. In order to make her mother feel better, Artemis refused to speak around her, instead using the method of communication that most dragons used: sounds and touch. Her mother thumped back a tired morning and looked at the sky. Seeing the impending morning, Artemis's mother looked back at the child uttered a low grunt: it was time for Artemis to go to school. Artemis tensed up, and shook her head. Her ears lowered and her tail twitched:I can't go mom, you know I can't. Her mother growled, and stood up. She shook the child from under her wing and looked at her sternly. This is not a matter of discussion young lady; you're going. Artemis hissed at her mother and began to dig into the ground, trying to get away to a place where her mother could not reach her. Oh no you don't, her mother snarled, and grabbed Artemis by the tail. The great dragon outstretched her massive black wings and took of with the child in her mouth. Mom, please! Don't make me go! They hate me!They all hate me! Artemis whined. Her mother paid her no mind, continuing to fly towards the school. Let them hate as they please my child. They're just afraid because you're different. the dragon grunted, not slowing down.
Ever since the second wave, schools had began splitting. There were schools for the mutant kids, and schools for the humans. As of the moment, there were none for half-breeds like Artemis. The humans hated her because of her dragon blood, and the mutants hated her for still being partly human. She did not fit anywhere, and was hated everywhere. When they approached the school, Artemis's mother released her tail and let the child drop. Artemis unfurled her wings as she fell and floated safely down. She observed the students walking in. There were pixies, vampires all wrapped in cloaks, centaurs, some kind of blob, and then there were the full-blood dragons. Artemis shrank back, trying to hide behind one of her mother's legs, but the woman pushed Artemis forward. The dragon children glared at Artemis, and hissed at her. She whimpered and wrung her tail in her hands submissively. Her mother, noticing how these kids behaved towards her child, let out a great snarl at the bullies and they flew into the school hurriedly. Her mother gave her a loving lick before flying off to go home, leaving Artemis alone at school to fend for herself. The girl sighed. Another day of bullies and futile efforts to blend into the background. Artemis took a deep breath, and walked through the school's front arch (they had removed the doors to be more hospitable to the mutants without hands). She walked to her locker, entered the combination, and opened it. A large bag of ground-up chili powder burst upon the locker opening; somebody had booby-trapped it. Artemis was covered head to toe in red dust.
What a great way to start off my morning, she sighed. This was going to be another long day.

Another day at school. Amy was diluted enough to be able to go to human school. Most people left her alone, anyway, since Amy had a very low tolerance for people who she didn't like. A blood bag was contained in a small cooler in her backpack.

This year would be her last at school, and in Bloomingview. As soon as she graduated, she'd be off to find her place in life. She'd always had a longing to go to Egypt for some reason, though the sand and sun weren't really her thing.

Petunia Fitzjerald

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Petunia awoke from a terrifying nightmare. In it, her parents had eaten her alive. She could still recall the horrible snarls that emanated from their throats as they pounced on her frail frame, and the blood-curdling shrieks that left her mouth as her legs were ripped off and devoured. The faun trembled with the memory of the life-like dream. She looked up at the sky; it was beginning to lighten, meaning that it was almost time for school to begin. Petunia always waited until the last minute to go to school because of the horrible bullying. Things had started off well for her, until one mean-spirited mutant had decided that it would be fun to push her over in the hallway. Once all the other students noticed that she didn't, and actually couldn't, do anything about it, they all began to pick on her mercilessly. Each time, she would just bow her head and not say a word. Sighing, Petunia stood up and looked around at the woods that she now called home. She stretched her legs out and prepared to run to school like she always did. She took off like an arrow, feeling the wind blowing her rose-colored hair as her hooves struck the pavement while she ran. In just minutes she reached the school, and she slowed down.
Classes started in just a few minutes, so not many students were still outside. She tried to quietly walk past the few ner-do-wells that still loitered outside, only to run right into three dragons. Her eyes widened in fear, and she backed away. The three dragons, two girls and a boy, circled around her, their eyes narrowed and their tails twitching. The boy, who was the largest and obviously the leader, snarled viciously at her, and the other two growled. She made a small 'eep' as she retreated, and tripped over her own to hooves. Petunia fell on her butt, looking up at the bullies that surrounded her. The boy, a large, dark-colored dragon with piercing red eyes, closed in on her, and opened his mouth to bare his sharp fangs. The rest of the mutants that remained around the school noticed the commotion and circled around excitedly. They loved to watch the weaker students be beaten to a pulp by the stronger ones. As the two green dragon girls joined their leader, Petunia uttered a sharp, shrill scream and closed her eyes. She covered her face with her arms, and waited for the inevitable beating to begin.

Poppy Flores Arguedas
Abominable Snowgirl

Poppy awoke to the smell of pancakes, but not just any: her father's specialty pancakes. The kind he would mix and match ingredients into, with the end result always being a delicious breakfast. The kind that could wake her from peaceful slumber... usually. Poppy's bed consisted of a raised platform, slabs of ice covered in snow, and a bit of bedding set within a frame of ice blocks. Her room was hence set between 17 to 23 degrees at all times. It was the fleece lined sleeping bag she used as a blanket that kept her from hopping out of bed every morning. With reluctance, though, she headed to the bathroom with a change of clothes to prepare for the day.

Poppy then hurried into the kitchen to greet her mother and father happily, as she always did. She let time tick by as she chewed on blueberry cornmeal pancakes (that were cut into flowers) and filled her thermos with chai tea. Her mother released a sound that resembled one of Chewbacca's cries, and as she checked the time on the stove, Poppy realized how late was running. She grabbed the blue and pink backpack her mother made for her. "Thanks Mom!" she yelled as she burst out of her house's front door, with a pancake hanging out of her mouth.

It didn't take long for her to reach school campus. With lower legs made of muscle, the jog and several super jumps she made got her there before the 5-minute bell. Poppy hated showing up late, because then she didn't get to bother her self-proclaimed best friends Amy and Griffin. The only upside was getting involved in the beatings that happened outside. With raised eyebrows, Poppy easily wandered into the epicenter of the mutant mob. Hm, three nasty-looking dragons and a woodland.

"That doesn't seem fair Jimmy," Poppy called to the biggest, meanest reptile. She strolled to Petunia's side and stared at "Jimmy," now close-mouthed and wide-eyed. "This makes more sense." The girl dragons retreated, having remembered her face; their leader, however, made as if to snap at Poppy. He would've if she hadn't clamped his mouth shut with one hand. She thanked the gods for having a beast's strength in situations like these. She brought his face to hers. "Please stop bothering the less experienced creatures." She demanded, with an innocence but with underlying force.

{{ ooc: Recolored pics to match Poppy's tones. Original character should be fine with it. Lol. Extra long post for being extra late! }}

Petunia Fitzjerald

Petunia had her eyes closed, waiting for for the hitting to begin. Suddenly she heard a soft, milky voice from behind her. Wh-who is that? she thought, and opened her eyes fearfully. Right by her side, crouching down with the biggest dragon's mouth clenched in her fist, was a yeti-girl. Petunia's eyes widened with surprise. Somebody was actually standing up for her! She was quite surprised and just lay in the ground, still trembling slightly. Who was this girl? Was she some kind of super bully that just wanted Petunia for herself? Petunia had heard of those kinds of bullies: they were so hateful that they had to have their own personal victims that they didn't have to share with anybody else. They treated their "punching bag slaves" like inanimate objects, mercilessly beating and abusing them. They harassed them daily, and sometimes did worse than just beat them. There were even cases in which these super bullies killed their victims, and mutilated their dead bodies. Nobody ever did anything. Petunia was now truly terrified, she uttered a small whimper and shrank back from this girl, who was extraordinarily powerful and seemed fearless.
This girl...she...she must be one of them? She's going to make my life a living hell isn't she! Petunia whimpered again and began to tear up. Upon the yeti's next words, ones demanding, not asking but demanding, that Jimmy stop harassing her, Petunia's whimpering stopped and her heart skipped a beat. She...she's not going to bully me? Petunia thought, surprised. What in the world was going on? Who was this strange girl that was so powerful yet kind? Why was she defending a helpless fawn that she didn't even know? Questions swarmed around in Petunia's mind, and her eyes began to blur. A small, quiet whine slipped involuntarily from her throat. She tried to thank this kind stranger, but no sounds other than a small gurgle. She tried to stand up, her thin fawn legs kicking. She tripped over her hooves and fell back to the ground. She cried out and remained there, blushing brightly. She managed to sit up and bow respectfully to this girl. It was all this poor little fawn could do.

Artemis had just finished dusting the chili powder off of her clothes and brushing it out of her hair when she heard a commotion outside. She turned to look out the arches at what was going on. There was a crowd outside, and the three dragons that perpetually harassed her were at the front. From what she could hear with her advanced dragon ears, it sounded like they were picking on some kind of deer. She growled, the sound resonating from deep within her throat, and walked towards them. She stopped, her legs trembling. She wanted to help whatever was out there, but she was too afraid of Jimmy and his groupies to do anything. She just stood there, her teeth grinding and her fist clenched. Her eyes began to glow, a sign that she was getting angry. If she got too worked up, she wouldn't be able to hold her fiery breath within her: she would erupt like a volcano and torch everything in her path. She stood stock still, observing. She couldn't see, but she could hear what sounded like dainty hooves striking the pavement in a frantic manner. It sound like some kind of weird deer scrambling away from something, she thought. She unfurled her wings and flew up to get a better look. Below her lay a pink fawn. The fawn's eyes were wide with fear, and Artemis could see why. The three dragons had this poor innocent thing surrounded. She growled, ready to swoop down and save this creature at the risk of her own life. Before she could do anything, some yeti-girl jumped in and defended her. Artemis froze in admiration and surprise when the girl crouched down and grabbed Jimmy by the snout. The yeti sent the other two dragons, Megan and Tori, running with nothing more than a look. She gasped. This girl was amazing! Did she know that fawn? Artemis immediately liked this Yeti-girl for standing up for the weaker creatures. She noticed that the fawn girl wasn't thanking the yeti. Instead, the timid pink being was scampering backwards away from her, and it from this that the sound came. After a while the fawn stopped and bowed to the yeti-girl. Artemis dropped down behind the fawn, facing the yeti. "Wow, you have quite some bravery." Artemis cooed. She smiled, her eyes bright. "I have no idea how or why you did that, but I admire you for defending her." she gestured to the fawn at her feet, and looked down to the creature. She looked back up at the yeti and outstretched her hand. "I'm Artemis. Artemis O"Reilly. It's nice to meet you."
