6! Mia had a feeling that her litter would be a big one, with the amount her belly grew, and the big litters that ran in her family, she didn't doubt it for one second.

Happiness was curled up inside her like a warm ball, burning away at her core and keeping her bright and cheerful, despite how tired she was as a new mother.

Five precious little boys and one little girl had come into her world, and she was sure now that her fathers lines was in danger of one day taking over the Pridelands! The chocolate lioness chuckled, and she looked down at the bundle of fur between her paws.

Kale had big bright red eyes, brighter than his mothers, and was quite slight. A burnt orange tuft of fur made a tiny flame for a tail, and tiny curls on his head. He was inquisitive from birth, and full of questions. He turned onto his back and batted his mothers nose affectionately. "Mooomma, can we continue the story now?"

Her son had been almost obsessed with the idea of family history since the concept formed in his brain. Being around so many lions in the Pridelands, often sparked curiousity as to where they all came from. Save from explaining the birds and the bees to such a young cub, Mia was relaying the history of the Pridelands, in tiny chunks, as well as she could remember. She would certainly have to take him to see Mahiri. There were already some uncanny similarities.

"Not now, son." Mia smiled gently down at her number 3 affectionately. To relate her children to numbers, would seem so cold and mechanic, but as those who knew he well, knew that Mia did it with well, everything! Her penchant for counting and mathematics had not disappeared in her pregnancy.

Luckily, for his age, Kale was incredibly patient, and with a nod he pulled himself up to rest just under his mothers chin. "Okay! Maybe another time?"

Madhu was snuggling with his mother's large forepaw, rowling a soft purr and batting at the soft tufts of fur between her pads. His little brown-tipped tail was waving about excitedly, but in the middle of this cuddling and playing, he suddenly froze and turned to stare adoringly up at his mother's warm eyes. "We love your stories, Mama," he chirped. "And we love yoooou!" He burst into a great purr, vibrating his whole body as he wrapped his tiny paw around the edge of hers and rubbed his cheeks against her pawpads.

Madhu seemed to have been born sweet and loving. He liked to pounce and mock-fight in their clumsy cubbie way as much as any boy would, but he possessed a singular way of being free with affection and adoration. He never failed to tell his mother that he loved her, and was just as free with bestowing his love upon his siblings too. Just now, though, a sibling's tailtip caught his eye, and he stopped snuggling to watching it flip back and forth, mesmerized.

Tamanisha was next to stir, opening her eyes and rolling over to peer across at her mother and siblings who were already awake. Arcing her back, she yawned, rubbing her forepaws briefly down over her little, round face. Only then did she find her feet and stagger sleepily across towards Madhu, Kale and Mother.

"Wa's going oooon?" She called in a high-pitched voice, moving right across to her mother and rubbing against her with a purr. "Don't want a story." She continued. "Want to go 'sploring! Can we mum? Can we?"

Her eyes widened just a little but enough to give her pleading a stronger effect.

Kale smiled up at his mother as Madhu stared up at her and nodded. "We do love you Momma, lots and lots." He nodded matter of factly both to Mia and to Madhu, and touched his brother gently on the shoulder.

Mia chuckled, she hadn't half produced a bunch of loving cubs. Her and Mheetu were incredibly lucky. She scooped up all three of her visible cubs gently into her paws and purred loudly. "Me and your daddy love you all so much!"

"Nishaaa!" Kale squealed and patted her on the head with a tiny forepaw. He wasn't sure how his brothers felt, but she was the only girl and she needed looking after by all of her big strong brothers... Well, they would grow up to be big and strong!

"But but stories and thennn sploring? Why don't you like stories Nish?" He pouted sweetly.

Mia sighed gently, but happily. "We will see what everybody else wants to do, and what your father says." Mia knew the Pridelands were a safe place, but after the war, you could never be too sure. With little six cubs, it would be best if both Mia and Mheetu went with them, and even then, they wouldn't go far. She didn't want to be an overprotective mother, but she was a new mother, and there was probably a link between the two that she didn't quite recognise yet.

Kuona stretched out with a yawn, and pried open purple eyes to peer around and try to find his family. Tossing his head a little and swishing his white-tufted tail, the quiet brown cub crept around his mother and siblings, evidently deciding that there was nothing in particular worth viewing here. Maybe if he went this way, he would see something neat?

Of course, Kuona was still a very young cub, and so his unsteady paws led to him tripping and landing on his nose just a few feet away from his mother with a soft but audible 'thud'. "Aah!" Coupled with his squeal of surprise at having lost his footing, any element of stealth he had been aiming for was entirely lost. But - maybe Mama hadn't noticed him?

Folding his ears back, Kuona dared to turn his head in his mother's direction and lowered himself as close to the ground as he dared. Nobody here, Mama, just a rock! He wasn't really sneaking away to explore, nope!

"Kuona!" Mia couldn't help but let out a giggle. "What are you doing?" Cubs had always made her chuckle with their off-balanced movements. When the world was so new and fresh that they couldn't wait to run out and experience it all. That was most cubs, anyway. Not all were the same. She shook her chocolate covered head to hopefully summon Kuona to her side. She looked to her two chocolate sons, and to her own paws and mused. Of all her brothers and sisters, there had only been her and Nitesh that were entirely brown. Kuona was the spitting image of his uncle, save for his eyes. Nitesh had blue eyes.

Being the youngest of all the Mahiri and Bakhti line, Mia's brothers and sisters had cubs of their own a long time ago, and she did not know where many of them were. She could always remember them passing in and out of the den when she was growing up.

But now, she had her own family.

Caught, Kuona froze and stared up at his mother for a long moment. "Um.... um..." he stammered, tail swishing back and forth as he tried to think of something to say that might somehow resemble an answer. "Well..." Heaving a great sigh, he rose out of his crouch and padded over to his mother, nuzzling against her apologetically. Maybe if he just told the truth, it would be okay? Besides, Mama was warm, and he liked snuggling with her.

"I wanted to go see somethin' interesting," he said, twitching his ears as he spoke. "May I, Mama? May I please?" Just what the 'something interesting' was that he wanted to see, well, the brown cub didn't know yet. But he was sure it was out there waiting for him, nonetheless!

Mia nudged up the little ones from about her feet gently after returning her sons affections, and made her way towards the mouth of the cave. Her maroon eyes surveyed the distance carefully. There were plenty of lions dotted about, so she nodded her head gently. She wanted to give her cubs both freedom and safety, and she was sure she would find the balance between the two soon enough.

"Seeing as your father isn't here yet, you promise you are not going to go beyond that tree, and stay in my eyesight, please?" She gave her children a wide smile. She remembered all too well the urge to go exploring when she was young. Mia lay herself back down gently near the entrance of the den.

Kale purred gently and opted to stay next to his mother. He much preferred stories and learning to exploring. The world seemed kinda scary. He tilted his head and his big red eyes widened as he looked up adoringly at his mother.

Koru had been trying to sneak past his mother, the most mischievous expression already firmly in place as he waited patiently for his siblings to serve as a good distraction with their many questions and gestures of affection. Unfortunately , he hadn’t been the only one with that idea in mind and as soon as Kuona was caught right in the act, the blue-eyed cub froze in place looking as startled as if he’d been the one caught. Perhaps Kuona’s misfortune could serve as the best possible distraction but Koru didn’t want to make his mother repeat herself especially now that she was already allowing them to move away from the mouth of the den.

“I’ll race you there, Kuona!” The cub told his brother as he ran past the darker cub, giving him a quick challenging n**.

Someone else who was doing a bit of sneaking – maybe this was a family trait? - was Mheetu, the pale Scout who was just arriving from the borders. His chest welled up with pride as he caught sight of the little shapes near his den and he moved closer with quiet steps, crouching near the dry foliage that perfectly hid his coat. The borders were calm and the heart of the pride was a fairly safe place for the little explorers but he was relieved that they still weren’t straying too far from the mouth of the den.

He smiled as he looked at Mia, surrounded by their sons and daughter. Could he possibly have been luckier?

Erevu mumbled slightly, ears lifting just a bit as his tail did a small, nearly inaudible, thump on the floor. Wrinkling his nose, he peeked open his right eye, giving his siblings a sleepy look. Suddenly, a lustful yawn took over and he stretched out his body on the ground, spreading his toes and poking out his claws.


Finally awake, he sat up, smacking audibly as he smiled dreamily at his siblings and mother. "Mama, when is dad coming home?" he questioned, wandering over to her before plopping down and peering at Koru and Kuona. "I-I wanna go, too!" Erevu stuttered, standing up to follow but hesitating. "Can I join?" he asked, unsure. He was quite the awkward cub, with a slight stuttering problem and sometimes, speaking in riddles. He smiled hopefully at his siblings, leaning slightly against Mia's side.

Mia could feel anothers eyes watching, and turned to see look towards the entrance of the den. Though she could see nothing, she knew better than to dismiss it with her young cubs so near. Hoping it was her mate, she called out. "Mheetu?"

Mia stood up slowly, nudging Kale aside with a smile. "Go play, son!" She feared that he would be outcast, and grow nervous and scared of the world if he did not play outside whilst he was young.

"I'm not sure, Erevu." She gave him a gentle nudge. "You can go play, though." She had her maroon eyes on all six of her cubs.

Erevu pouted at his mother before nodding with a sigh, hanging his head in a slight sulk; where was his father? However, his mood was quick to uplift at the nudge and he grinned cheekily before looking at Kale. Crouching, he let out a playful snarl. ”Come on, K-Kale! Let’s p-play!” he growled happily, hoping from side to side. He batted a paw at him, trying to provoke a response and get his brother to play with him. ”I-I betcha can’t c-catch me!” he taunted, attempting to ruse play, before grinning sheepishly at his mother. He tried to stop the stuttering, to cover up by doing what he’s seen other cubs do. However, he couldn’t help the slight awkwardness in his attempt and, after a moment, sat up with a nervous grin.

The chocolate coloured lioness turned her large maroon eyes to each of her cubs in turn with a wide smile. As she looked at all her cubs, she noticed they were all different to one another. Different in looks, in temperaments, in their tiny mannerisms. They may have all been different, but they were all utterly perfect. This was the family she had wanted since she was young. Being a cub in such a big family had been so wonderful to her, and she wanted to give her children the very same thing. It was comfort, it was warmth, and to her, it was perfection. And when Mheetu got here, perhaps late from his scouting, she would be more complete than ever.
