She stepped out of the river, and into the mangrove forests. No longer could she hear the roar of the ocean. It felt odd. Riptide had grown up on the beach, all her life, the sound of waves was present. Now, the world seemed eerily quiet. It felt like freedom.

Staring upwards, she could not see the sky. Above her were trees. Trees and trees and an endless sea of leaves. That too was odd. She was so used to the open sky that stretched ever on into the ocean. Unfocused, the doe stumbled over a root and went sprawling into the forest floor.

"If Breakwater saw that, she'd have a heart attack." The doe thought out loud. She loved her sister, she really did, but sometimes her sister's overbearingness was... well, too much to bare.
