So this was a whole new experience. Like, totally mind-blowing and surreal- was this even happening? Was there a way to test reality, to make sure it actually was reality? The scaled nose of the buck curled upwards in a silent and menacing growl; Fire Made Flesh was not a friend of change. He was much too accustomed to doing things his way, on his terms, without thought or worry or care for anyone else. But now there was a female. A female, and offspring. A shiver ran down his scaled back, ending with an irritated flick of Flesh's armor-plated tail. The cloven hooves that reliably carried him left strange tracks in the soft earth; Fire Made Flesh certainly stood out from most other kin. A solitary creature, he was not the sort to display empathy nor compassion- and suddenly he had to find it within himself to employ both qualities! A guttural snarl escaped his barely-parted lips as they curled back over his not-quite-white teeth. If there was any saving grace to this whole unpleasant situation, it was that now the dragon-esque kimeti would have minions.

Lull in Sunlight had been padding around in search of prey or entertainment. The prey had long since been tracked, pounced, and eaten when she came across the odd cloven-hoof tracks. Now that was different. Curiosity piqued, she had easily trailed the unknown beast. It had not taken long for her to catch up to him. She took in his irritated persona -- a marely laugh had erupted at the snarl, her more natural form solidifying for a moment in amusement before disappearing once more -- and with a feral grin befitting an owlcat had decided he would be entertaining. With that she had pranced right up behind him, snaking under his tail and trotting right between his legs until she was in front of him, tail high and proud. A voice from behind whispered, "In a bad mood, are we?" but if he turned in time he would only see a shadow.

The whisper from behind begged his attention first; Flesh whirled, quite possibly almost nearly knocking the owlcat in the head with his split front hooves, but he was not fast enough. Naught but wisps of seductive shadow were to be seen. The buck growled in irritation without thinking that his prickly persona might be fun and games for someone else. "Perhaps now is not the best time for trickery," Flesh suggested. Strongly. Command gripped his husky voice edged with sharpness like a heavy iron longsword was sharpened to a deadly fine point. "I am glad I can make it obvious enough for my audience." Flesh wasn't exactly a charmer, nor was he even remotely sociable. What he lacked in grace and kindness he made up for ten times over in his discourteous and impudent way. But curiosity was something that for all his coarse outer shell the kimeti had heaps and mounds of, so he could not simply turn his back to his taunter and walk away. The elusive owlcat might think she could see smoke curling in opaque plumes upwards from Flesh's flaring nostrils, but surely that was just a figment of his projected vexation. "Will you show yourself?"

He was wound tight; a coiled rattlesnake ready to strike. Thrilling. Another laugh bubbled up from the shadowed mare and she began to circle him. If he squinted, concentrated, he would be able to see her silhouette rounding him as a predator did a piece of meat. "You speak strongly but you hold no sway over me," she retorted, an edge laced into her voice that spoke of a deep confidence. Power even. It was clear she did not fear him, even more so when she laughed outright at his question. "I have," she cooed, and though she would have liked to continue playing with him as a cat did a mouse... That could go on for days and she did not want to be away that long. A soft sigh whispered through the air and then the shadows peeled back, revealing a mare in all her glory. The owlcat trotted forward, planting itself against the mare's front left leg, tail curling almost possessively around her ankle. And then it vanished into the shadow the mare cast beside her. "You really should learn some manners, dear," she told him. There was no wariness as she moved toward him, taking in his hard bony appearance, the harsh line of his tooth lined mouth. He looked a worthy adversary but the tickle up her spine told her that she held the power here. She grinned, wide, and her eyes narrowed. Oh yes, he was expecting. He'd do very well to beg or grant her a present, if he wanted a blessing without fuss, but looking him over she doubted he had had the foresight. Instead she waited. Whatever would he do.

anemosagkelos OOC: Sorry this took so long. DDD; I'm remodeling a house and we ran into some issues; we found mold in an entire wall of the kitchen and what was a simple "scrape away the wallpaper and paint the walls!" turned into a much more complicated project. Thank you for being patient, and sorry to keep you waiting! <3333 It was likely to do the buck some good if he learned to mind his manners. Where once was suspicion and distrust suddenly there was apprehension and quiet, barely-there awe. While not precisely reverent of these most mysterious Kin, Fire Made Flesh was not so ignorant to be unaware of the mare's power; she was due respect, even if it was not easy for him to bite his tongue and temper his acerbic tongue. Flesh flicked first one ear then the other in quick succession, a subconscious action betraying his slight discomfort. While Lull in Sunlight moved towards him and looked him over, he did the same. His scale-lidded eyes traced the pink that ran like stockings up the mare's legs, the eerie glow that gleamed within her eyes. When she didn't move to speak again, the buck made a hasty decision to bite the bullet; "You must know of my... predicament," he chose the wording carefully. There could yet be some positive to be found within the tangled mess that he'd gotten himself into, but he might need some help finding it amongst all the negative.

"Yes. I know," she answered with a measured nod. A tilt of her head, he was far from pleased about his impending fatherhood. "Perhaps you should make yourself familiar with a few well-respected herbs in the future," she needled, "though it is far too late for that now, isn't it?" It was a piece of knowledge she had never imparted before -- most kin seemed proud, if uncertain, to become parents. But he. Well he might appreciate it for the future. She rounded him once more, "What is it you want, dragon?" The moniker was not quite so witty as she would hope but it suited him; all scaly bone and harsh lines and a tongue that any normal kin might thought spit fire -- she grinned, he did not intimidate her at all. Poor thing.

Of course she knew. How wouldn't she? Being who she was gave the mare... knowledge. And power. Sweet power. Fire Made Flesh eyed the female as she spoke, imparting upon him wisdom which might of great use in the future. His scaled nose dipped in a grateful gesture; "It is too late for it now, but I will make the most of this gift you have given me." For knowledge was a great gift, and the buck intended to utilize it fully. "What is it you want, dragon?"Although he had had no intentions of meeting a remarkable kimeti such as Lull-in-Sunlight, had not knowingly sought her out, he was not one to pass up such an advantageous situation. She had appeared for a reason, and Fire Made Flesh would not let this opportunity slip through his cloven hooves. "I seek your blessing," he said simply. "For my children to be strong and smart, so that I may be proud they carry my legacy on." There had to be some way to put a positive spin on this whole mess of circumstance, and perhaps the only way was to hope for offspring who would make him proud.

"Then you have found the right mare. I value knowledge dearly," she imparted with a lazy swish of her tail. It took her a moment to take in all that she knew of the buck. Only then did she begin to speak the blessing, "Healthy and sound of mind they will be born. Intelligence will reign and they shall know the power of mere manners." And with that, it was done. She bowed her head, then come to stand beside him. "I'll walk with you a moment and tell you of these herbs that may be of use to in the future," she explained. And she would tell him, what they were, where to find them, how they were best used, before he would look toward her and find her vanished.

Grateful, Flesh's scaled snout dipped low in a show of gratitude- for both the knowledge imparted and the blessing given. With the mare's graceful invocation of her powers, the surety of offspring seemed less daunting, not as dark and gloomy. Somehow, her words brought peace to the buck's tumultuous mind. How could he say no to her; they walked together for as long as it took, the enraptured buck thirstily drinking in names and places and uses. The bass thrum of a toadsong drew off Flesh's attention for a mere moment, but it was more than enough time for the enigmatic mare to vanish entirely. What a strange encounter.
