A wide yawn stretched the lips of the brightly colored leopard as he slumped his pink hide against the side of the tree that he had been stalking past in his patrol, normally alert rose hues dim with fatigue from a long days work. With the colony very nearly empty he had been working triple shifts in guard duties and it was more than wearing him thin! He would really need to have a word with someone about this soon! They needed a break in these patrols... Sure, the Gorilla and other threats of the jungle were always present, but guards passed out in the mud were hardly an effective safety net!

Still, that was a matter for another day. The sun was quickly making it's way for the horizon and his shift was nearing it's end. It was time for him to gain some much needed sleep at last.

With a low groan, the warrior heaved his lean body away from the tree to turn back down the path with every intention of making his away home, his rose eyes more alert than they had been in hours with the hope of the warm den awaiting him at the end of his journey. Just a bit further ahead, just a bit further... Surely this close, nothing would delay him....

"Due north, she said. You can't miss it, she said." the dark leopard muttered, glaring in the direction of the setting sun. She knew, from all the times growing up with her brother's in the small alcove near a river, that the sun always rose in one direction and would set in the opposite. And her brother's had educated her to where she was positive that the sun would set in the west and would rise in the east. In fact, she was quite certain the if she were facing the setting sun, she would need to veer right.

However, for the life of her, she couldn't figure out why she kept ending up facing the sun in such short periods of time. As her brothers would say, she had absolutely no sense of direction. And since the only time she's been without a sibling-escort was nearly a mile away and with a river to guide her back, the leopard never had a chance to test and see if they were right.

And they were. Letting out a growl, her mossy green orbs stared loathsomely at the lighted area of the dense forest, knowing from the brightness that that was where the sun currently taunted her. An irritated sigh escaped the leopards lungs and she hunched slightly, staring around herself warily.

For the first time ever, Sauda'paka had ventured away from the familiar lands of her home in search of a new life. Ever since her brothers had passed away, years before, she had lived in solitude, never traveling far from her home. And then, just a mere new moon before, a leopard came across her and told her many stories about the pride comprised of only leopards. The stranger stayed for a night, sharing tales of his own experiences there with obvious adoration in his voice, before leaving that morning after giving his directions. He stated it would be in a big, strange rock structure that was known as a temple, in the middle of a forest where it rained constantly. It wasn't raining now, though after losing her footing in the mud, Sauda decided it had earlier. It was definitely humid, however.

A noise caught her ear, just a slight rustle of leaves up-wind. Eyes widening and with no thoughts of dangers, she sprinted towards the source, trampling through the undergrowth and causing enough ruckus to wake her brothers up from the afterlife. She spotted a flash of pink and suddenly stopped, her senses gaining control over her excitement. Slinking to her belly, she edged forward, eyes trained on the bright leopard, attempting to be as quiet as possible. She had nearly succeeded to(if minus the fact that she just stampede through the forest like a rampant elephant) had there not been many twigs and leaves on the ground. She winced at each snap and crackle, praying to her Gods and Goddess that the leopard wouldn't notice her yet, though the likelihood of such a thing was rather slim.

"Great..." Was the light muttering that passed his lips as he heard the light stampeding that charged up behind him for a moment before it stopped only to be replaced by sudden, 'supposed' stealth. He didn't stop his slow walk, or turn toward the noise not wanting to alert his stalker that he knew it was there. Thought how it could possibly think it could remain undetected after that was so far beyond him... 'Maybe if you ignore it it will go away' This was his mental mantra as he continued on his way to the temple. However after several paced, his worry won out over his annoyance at his rest being interrupted.

He could hardly lead this thing to the steps of his home. They had send most of the warriors out on a recruitment drive. Only nobility, caretakers and little ones remained with the few guards... He would not bring danger into their lightly guarded home....

With a heavy sigh, he finally halted his steps and bowed his head, ready to turn toward his stalker, but-...

----

" What have we here! " Came a lazy chuckle from behind body the pale leopard and the dark leopardess. Strong jaws closed around the females scruff, hauling her up as easily as if she were a newborn kitten, and carrying her forward to where the now stunned pale-furred guard stood staring.

The blue cat set her down easily at the guards feet before giving the two a lazy grin, head cocking to the side, the feathers of his beaded collar ruffling with the movement. " Are you two playing a game? You really shouldn't do so in the jungle so late in the evening. There are many nasty nocturnal critters here you know... "

Where he had even come from neither could rightly tell. for neither had heard him coming up behind the both of them as focused as they were on each-other.

In Sauda's honest opinion, she thought she was doing quite well in her stalking; either that, or the leopard was near deaf, though she liked to give credit to herself. Smirking with satisfaction, she observed him closely, creeping after him as he continued to walk. Suddenly, however, the leopard paused in his strides and swung his head. Curious as to what her stalkee was currently doing, she watched closely, inching just the slightest bit forward, leaning just a bit from under the bush to get a better look...

A rather unladylike and embarrassing squawk left her as she was suddenly picked up by the scruff of her neck. Shocked and appalled, she simply hung there for a second before pride kicked in and she been flailing about, though not as viciously as she hoped; she never could solve the mystery on why she became a bit lethargic when held by her scruff. "Let me go!" she snapped, her tail lashing about as she flashed angry eyes at the only person she could currently see at the moment: the one she was stalking.

When she was finally dumped on the ground, in front of the guard, she huddled just slightly, reminded of all the similar situations she had to endure when lectured by her brothers. However, the sound of the offenders voice reached her and her back snapped upright, her head swiveling around to glare lividly at the leopard, lips pulled back in a snarl. "Game?" she sputtered, eyes narrowing. She gaped at his next comment. How dare he think low of her! So what if she was in the jungle in the darkness? And so what about the critter.

Of course, if logic were in control and if she weren't furious about being handled in a high-handed way, she would have agreed with his statements. She really didn't want to be out, exposed, in the middle of unknown territory, with unknown terrain and unknown nocturnal critters. But, as it was, she wasn't thinking logically right now.

"I'll have you know I was simply observing, thank you very much. And I love being in the... jungle... at night!" she fumbled over the word, as unfamiliar as it was to her. "And I'm not scared of trivial things such as critters" she hissed, feeling the dire need to depend her pride. However, her eyes widened as she remember why she was angry in the first place. Bristling slightly, she edged away from both leopards, though she hadn't glanced at the first one through her whole tirade. "You will not touch me like that again." Of course, she had completely forgotten about the pride she was looking for at the current moment. And knew nothing of the new arrivals rank and power. Though, one would wonder if she would have responded any differently if she did know?

Rose eyes grew wide at the site of their newest guest, staring in shocked silence at the blue leopard, his ears quick to flatten back when they were scolded. But when the dark feline dared to talk back they shot back up and his eye grew even wider darting between this stranger and his returning General and Chief. Was she INSANE!? Did she have no idea with who she spoke!?

Even if she didn't know his exact rank, surely his garb gave away the fact that he was someone of importance!?

....No. Surely she was just insane. Perhaps she had traveled too close to the ruin and was taken by the sickness? She spoke complete nonsense. Or arrogance. Were the old Chief here he would have her head-

----

Kamawi let loose a lazy laugh at her words, shaking his head once more, the fang pierced earring jingling merrily. " I like you... You're quite a prideful thing aren't you? I suppose I could let you go play with the critters but... well I don't really want you to do so soon. The critters we have in our jungle are Crocodiles, Gorillas and the occasional serpent... "

" I'll give you a choice... you can either go back into that jungle in the dark... " He murmured, half-blind eyes darkening as he held out a paw to her, expression suddenly serious. " Or you can com with me to the safety of the temple as my consort... which will you choose my dear...? The certainty of life.. or the chance of death? "

The lazy smile returned to his lips, his expression, relaxed and seemingly innocent once more, but the dark glimmer remained in the one good and one blind eye as he stared at the dark feline before him awaiting her answer.

Sauda knew she should keep eye contact, to let the striped leopard know that she was serious, but she couldn't help to glance over at the colorful cat. The shocked expression was clearly there. Eyes narrowing, she looked back at the object of her rage, still growling, though slightly uncertainty dancing in her gaze. Why was the other so shocked and horrified? Possibly because he expected me to be as helpless and obedient as a cub. she decided, strengthening her resolve and her glower.

She was quite ruffled at the laugh, clearly offended that he was taking her lightly. And then he had to keep talking. "I don't like you." she replied crisply, moss-colored eyes flashing angrily. Was she being made fun of? "I've defeated thousands of crocodiles and snakes! I've even bested these... Gorillas." Again, the word felt weird on her tongue, her mind racing to figure out just what a gorilla was. Sauda was obviously fabricating the details. She's seen plenty of snakes and crocodiles in her life but she never came into close contact with it, none the less in close proximity.

The expression that changed on the striped leopards face startled her almost into silence. Almost. She opened her mouth, about to retort that she'd much rather go into the jungle in the dark, when a certain word caught her. Her ears twitched in interest. "Temple?" she said, pronouncing the word awkwardly. Her eyes narrowed. The stranger had mentioned the temple before. It was a step closer to a new life. However, that new life apparently included other things... things she would rather avoid. "I'm not afraid of the dark." she growled, though it wasn't as feral as before as she weighed her options. Pride was telling her to rebuttal to such a suggestion and find her own way through the jungle. However, her awareness of her lack of direction and the logical part of her that pointed out that she was in unfamiliar territory told her it was best to go along with them.

She glanced between the two, before an idea dawned on her. She would just follow them. Matching his smile with a scowl, she gave him a stern look. "I'd rather chance it." she snarled, keeping her head held up high and proud.

" Then it was a pleasure to have met you my dark beauty. " He purred out leisurely. With an easy smile, holding up a silencing paw when the guard moved to try to protest. He bowed his head to her, before turning away and moving to head along the darkening path, the pale male hesitating with a glance at the female before quickly following after his leader, biting back his words of protest.

What a dark treasure she was... He'd not met such a treasure as she since he was a smal kit... His princess bride... That was not to last.. That was a betrayal he would not think on.. But this.. If he was right about this one then perhaps.. just perhaps she would follow them, with all her lack of skill.. and he would gail his new consort after all...

Yes.. She was perfect. Beautiful and full of spirit. Just as a ruler should be.

If she did not follow... Then the jungle would take another princess from him...

---

Bara frowned worriedly as he followed after his Chief, glancing hesitantly over his shoulder every so often as they walked at a normal pace down the path, ears perked high to listen for the sound of underbrush and twigs. For the sound of the young girl's terrible stalkings skills. A hunter she was not. She reminded him a bit of his daughter... their ages were similar. As were their skills, or lack there-of, and it brought about just a bit of protectiveness in him.

He did not feel right about leaving her out there alone. He knew that Kamawi felt she would follow them, which is why they were not running the path as they usually would... But he couldn't help but worry.. what if she did not? What if she got lost on the way? What if she DID run into a Gorrila or a snake or a-

---

" Do not worry so... She is strong. She will come.. " Came the soft voice ahead.

---

Bara took a deep break and leet himself calm, falling into step alongside his friend and leader finally, offering the older leopard a slight smile. " It is good to have you home at last my friend... We have missed you, and your leadership... Chief Sayen will be thrilled to see you home... "

Sauda stared at him coldly as he said his farewell, not bothering to offer a condolences in return, though she was a bit surprised at his endearment for her; Sauda did mean dark beauty. She waited, waited just long enough to see the last bit of tail disappear around the corner, just before their noise disappeared... and began stalking, or what she considered stalking.

Crouching low on the jungle floor, she followed swiftly, though haphazardly. Numerous times, her paw wouldn't clear a jutting root, tripping her and causing a much louder ruckus as she fell into shrubs. Other times, a vine would snare her, resulting in the same situation. And then, there were moments when a weird, jungle noise sounded rather near her, causing her to let out a strangled noise and bolt from a spot to another spot before crouching again. However, she still thought she was unseen, unheard, undetected.

Sauda'paka thought her plan to be marvelous, since obviously it was working so well, after all. It never occurred to her as to why they were walking at such a pace.

Staring at the leading leopard hard, she frowned. He was rather handsome, though his personality easily marred it. The female leopard began to scowl. Yes, he was handsome. She'll admit that much. But he was also high-handed and arrogant to boot if he thought she would agree to mate with him after her obvious displeasure for him was known. No, it was best to find this temple, look for the leader, and request to join. She wouldn't even have to see the striped feline again, if she set her mind to it.

As her mind wandered, she was unaware that she carelessly trekked on a snake until it withered beneath her paw. Letting out a cry, she dashed forward, nearly running into the light, colorful leopard that followed behind The Arrogant One. Disregarding him for a second, she whipped around, eyes searching the depths of the jungle, as much as the descending darkness would permit. Once realizing that the snake was no longer a threat, she turned her gaze to the other two.

Well, this would need an explanation. A little piece of her was aching and she figured it was her dignity. "What a coincidence." She murmured, keeping her voice light though her eyes narrowed slightly, daring someone to contradict her. "We happen to be heading in the same direction."

Both males had relaxed when they heard her begin crashing through the brush, an amused smile making it's way across Mawi's lips. Ahhh, there she was. Just as he had thought. Or was it hoped? Either way, she had followed them. She was, and would be safe at the temple with them soon enough... Safe in his den soon enough. If was a comforting thought. And it had been a very long time since he had felt such comforts. Not since the exiles. Not since he had once again left his home, forcibly abandoned his princess, his mate to her cruel fate, certain death....

Oh how often he second guessed his choices of the past... The deaths of his mate and brother weighed so heavily upon him. Heavier than the mass deaths of his people. Even those that his mate caused.

---

"Sayen's children have missed you as well of course, your various nieces and nephews. Well, discounting Kailash, he is as moody as ever. Oh! And my daughter Kesha has asked after you. If you would spare a moment to speak with her after you have rested, I know that it would mean so much to her... I... Kamawi...? " Bara trialed off uncertainly as he noticed his Chief;s darkening mood. He had never been so happy for an interruption in his life when the dark leopardess came shrieking in between them from something in the wile despite the face that it caused him to jump in shock.

So much for being a seasoned Warrior.

---

" So it would seem... " Mawi said casually as if they hadn't been expecting as much, continuing his walk and allowing the other two to catch up to him, glancing back over his shoulder. " I assume you plan to ask the Chief to join the Usafi'tukufu? " He asked, brushing aside large leaves to show the first astounding view of the ruins of the once human temple. " Come. I will take you before the Chief... He will judge if you have been tainted by outsiders... " He murmured out, giving her a reasuring.

Pushing past the leaves, he began up the winding stone path.

Something wasn't right. Tensing, Sauda stepped a few steps back, staring hard at both of them. They were just... too casual now. After mulling it over, the female leopard decided to not question such a great change in events and go with it. She preened a bit, glad that her fabrication had worked so well; who knew that she was so good at stretching the truth?

His next question startled her. How did he know? Eyes narrowing with suspicion, she chewed over her words. "I will be perfectly fine if you just give me directions." she replied briskly. "I am curious, however, as to how you knew." she frowned, before abruptly dismissing the striped leopard in favor of the lighter colored. It was quite obvious she was purposely ignoring the more authoritative feline; she hadn't quite gotten over her earlier humiliation. She opened her mouth to introduce herself but wasn't able to find the words. In fact, she was quite sure she lost all control of her jaw as it just hung their, limply.

What was revealed to her was the most stunning site she had ever lied eyes on. It was.. mystifying. She had never seen such structure. It was foreign to her and the beauty of it all swept her from all logical thought. "Wonderful..." she breathed, taking in the sight. It seemed a part of her still knew how to function, though her thoughts were being verbally said. "Simply... wonderful." Awestruck, she suddenly found herself grinning. This. This was the place. She could have a new beginning here.

Letting out a laugh of pure joy, she grinned over at the two... and then realized who she was with. Her smile slipped, a slight bashful look overcoming her, but the mirth was still twinkling in her moss eyes. Following the leopards up the winding path, she mustered up a weak glare, feeling embarrassed that she had just blatantly acted like a child in front of two strangers, one of which that actually treated her as such.

She looked over at the paler feline. "What kind of leader is the chief? Not to be disrespectful, but I do want to know a bit of information." she hurriedly added, so as not to offend. "I'm sure he's a strong, kind leader though." she nodded to back up her own opinions. "Surely if he were to live in such a majestic place. It'd only be suiting, don't you think so, ...." she looked puzzled. "I don't believe I caught your name." She frowned over that, chancing a slight glance at the darker leopard.

The pale male froze in shock a moment, staring at her as she asked her quests. Slowly rose eyes drifted to Mawi before they returned to the dark leopardess they had picked up in the jungle. " I.. " Consort... Yes... Now he could see it.. She really was everything that his friend could hope to find in a mate.. And Mawi had seen it in only a breif glance. The Maltese never ceased to amaze him. Slowly, he gave a smile and a low bow, as if she herself were the royalty they were going to visit.

" Of course, Dary Lady. My name is Bara. I am happy to meet you. I am a Warrior of the Usafi'tukufu. Though with so many of our number out of the lands at the moment I am playing guard. " Tilting his head to the side, he motioned toward the striped leopard who watched with an amused expression. " And this is our greatest fighter, Kamawi... "

---

" It is a pleasure, my Dark Beauty... " He purred out deaply, peering into her eyes intently with his one good, the playful expression once again gone. He was completely enraptured by this wilscat. He couldn't help it... But he would hardly admit this to her... That would allow her to much power.. He had made that mistake before and look at what had happened? His people had suffered for it, and it had destroyed his love....

No. He would not repeat his mistakes...

Slowly, the lazy smile returned, and he stepped away from the pair to walk up into an ornate cavernous hall, draped in silky cloths, listening as Bara was quick to follow him. him.

---

" We have two Chiefs.. A brother and a sister, the brother has been gone a long while but recently returned. He will be judging you. He is a very powerful general, and a very good leopard, though many are... uncertain by how he acts. " He murmured, quirking a fond smile. " But,,, Trust me... He is a good soul... You've no need to fear... despite.. everything... "

*Clearing his throat, he quickly took his post with a turn by the throne. * Allow me to re-introduce you... to Chief Kamawi... "

---

Mawi had continued to walk on past Bara with a lazy smirk on his lips stepping up onto the slightly crumbling throne that was heavily covered in a mix of various soft furs, laying himself across it to peer down curiously at his dark beauty so he could study her reaction to this revelation.

She had been nothing but rude to him from the moment they met. Not he wondered what she would do with the revelation that he was a ruler of this beautiful temple that she so obviously wanted to live in. Would she try to grovel? Or would she continue to be defiant? Would she politely apologize? Try to seduce him? Hmm..

He quickly shook that away before he became a little too.. distracted.

PostPosted: Wed Nov 14, 2012 5:28 pm
The leopardess smiled back politely, repeating the name in her head. "Nice to meet you, Bara. I'm Sauda'paka." she fumbled over the 'paka', not quite liking the humor she was named with. But really, it could of been much worse. She frowned slightly, glancing quickly at the darker leopard, before deliberately looking away. However, he forced her to focus on him once more as he purred out that nickname, the one so close to her name's meaning. She was quite taken back at the seriousness and felt herself blinking owlishly, rather enchanted by the deep look. "N-nice to meet you too," she stuttered out, though a piece of her was flabbergasted at how she was behaving. And then, his expression changed. Her mossy eyes narrowed. Oh, she was starting to loathe that smile, and she had hardly known him for half a day.

Tensing, she glared in response to his change. Good. This, I can handle. she amended, quite glad she was on territory she was getting familiar with. Scowling deeply, she gave into the sudden impulse to stick her tongue out at him as his back was turned before grudgingly following Bara. Not him.

As Bara began to talk about the Chiefs, she watched with excitement, glancing around every now and then as though she would be able to glimpse them before their introduction. Chief Kamawi... Greatest fighter, Kamawi. Kamawi. Chief. Chief. Chief Kamawi. She stared hard at the light colored feline, trying to find mirth, before looking up at The Arrogant One. Her mind tried to wrap around it.

And finally it clicked. Smiling a sugary smile, almost too sweet, she did an elaborate bow, before she turned around and promptly walked out. Furious was a word that could hardly describe how she was feeling. And humiliated, oh how she was humiliated. Her tail was bristled against her will as she blindly walked through the ruined halls. This couldn't possibly have any opportunities for her if that leopard was the Chief. He was too insincere. Shoulders stiffened, she let out a long stream of mutters, calling the so-call Chief many obscenities that she's heard in her life. She whipped around suddenly, glaring at where The Arrogant One and Bara were. "URRGGHH!" she shouted out, her emotions wanting her to scream something though all that came out was the frustrated noise.

Soft humming would reach her ears the further she got away from the boys and very very soon she would step into something sticky and slick. If she looked down she would see that her dark paws were now instead very vibrant colors.

A brown-pelted female sat upon a fallen ruined pillar, her tail soaked in various different colored vibrant pants made of crushed flowers and water that could be found in the pots around her, many of which were also spattered upon her fur and covering her paws as well. Pale green eyes were completely focused on the wall before her and the mural she was paint of the wars that came before as she hummed her slightly off-key tune, swaying along and using her tail as her brush.

Kesha. A strange... resident of the temple... It took a long moment for her to notice her visitor, but the splast of paint eventually alerter her and the slightly distant seeming pale eyes turned toward Sauda. " Oh... Hello. Are you new here..? " She murmured out in a vague tone.

PostPosted: Wed Nov 14, 2012 6:23 pm
Looking down at her paws, Sauda let out a slight distressed whine. Oh, how she regretted leaving her comforts. She was very near plopping down in the vibrant colors and wallow in her own self pity. However, she didn't allow herself. Instead, she raised her eyes from the gooey colors and looked up. Oh, she was still mad, furious even. How dare they mock her like that! They knew all along.. and didn't dare to inform her. If she'd known he was the Chief, she wouldn't have ventured deeper into the jungle. Sighing, her eyes suddenly focused on the brown leopard to the side. Sauda blinked, staring at the leopardess.

When the pretty leopard turned to look at her, she felt a bit calmer. Just a bit. She heard the question, however, and her expression darkened just a bit. Deciding to focus on the designs on the wall, she marveled at the sight. "This place really is beautiful..." she murmured, letting out a wistful sigh. She then focused on the leopardess. "Good evening. Ermm... no, I was just leaving, actually..." She hesitated, staring curiously at the other female. "I'm Sauda... That's a marvelous painting." she murmured, eyes trailing back to it constantly. Suddenly, she shook her head and sighed. "I really should get going..." However, Sauda didn't move. This... this was comforting. Faced with the loneliness of her childhood home and the redundant day after day chores she preformed by herself in order to hold on to that last piece of how life used to be, Sauda yearned to stay. If only for the sights. She glanced up at the leopardess again and grumbled. Oh yes, she wanted to stay, but she didn't want to see him and his arrogant smiles.

"Would you mind helping me on this situation? I have a sister... and recently, she left home to find a better lifestyle at a place she heard of from a strangers tales. However, she ends up meeting a... well, she ends up meeting a person she really doesn't get along with. And, it turns out, he's kind of an... a very authoritative person. And my sister, see, she has a very hard time following orders from an arrogant, insincere, condescending oafs, especially ones who want to marry her and force her to be around him constantly." Sauda's voice grew a bit passionate there, a bit of anger flickering in her tone, before she soothed it and took a deep breath. "But she really loves the land and would really like a new beginning..." Sauda sighed, glancing up through her lashes at the other leopardess. She felt a bit bashful, now that she stated what was on her mind out loud, before deciding there was no reason for her to be bashful. The brown-pelted female would never know she was referring to herself, Sauda was sure of it.

Suddenly, Sauda let out a laugh. "Ahh, I'm really sorry for bothering you with this. It really is my sister's problem and no one else's."

" Thank you.. It is the sad tale of our lands.. My name is Kesha.. " She smiled, introducing herself when the dark leopardess made her own introduction. No matted what was said, she retained the far-away look about her. She was long ago one of many touch by the sickness of the ruins, though she was one of the lucky ones. Her madness was not an intense one. Not like what had happened to the former consort, her mother Fumananya, and many of the leopards who followed her. Kesha's mind was distant, but she was functioning and happy. She still had her history and her paint.

As well as her beloved adoptive father Bara.

When asked to listen to the other's tale, delima, she was more than happy to. She sat, head tilting slightly as the other spoke, listening to every word until Sauda finally traild off and made her excuses.

Finally, she decided to speak. " If your sister loves the land... then isn't it good that she is offered the hand of the leader? She may find him difficult... But if she's a leader of the land she loves then she gets to help take care of it and the people who live there does she not? "
