But until then, these were musings to stall and calm her mind. Being pulled in all sorts of directions, she knew he was nearby. And so she continued on with sausages of intestines wrapped around her neck, separate from the bundle she carried from the Skull Collectors. She was not above bribing or threatening her family, all negotiations under different guises.

They didn't pretend to ignore each other, nor did they go the route of "What a surprise, imagine meeting you here" Instead they met together on equal footing and for the moment, truly happy to see each other. Those feelings of irritation, betrayal, and guilt were cast aside for the tenuous seconds to just enjoy meeting up again and taking wonder in its each other companionship. Gloom to her Doom. But all good things must come to an end, but the bad ones just go on forever.

He broke the reverie by swiping her flank with his tail. But only one accusation:

"What took you so long?" He wasn't referring to her parcel, whatever it was, or her gorey necklace. He dismissed her bribing efforts even if his hackles rose in irritation still.

It was in that defining moment that Doom knew the peace was going to last. She burst out laughing, homesick. But felt removed from her emotions, the ghostly wings that trailed her flapping in rhythm to her too bright thoughts. She should be happy, she should be glad. But she was emotionally drained and Gloom's acceptance took the last bit out of her. It was just that simple. She forgot how pragmatic Gloom was despite his boutes of surliness.

"Let's walk" he suggested. She agreed, indulging in his way of doing things. He functioned best when in movement. But whether Look-See accepted her was another matter. They continued the journey home with Gloom updating her, every so once in a while sneaking in questions about her ascension. Tightlipped, she parlayed the uncomfortableness into playful quips at the bags under his eyes and dirty coat. Deflect, deflect and deflect more!

He got the last word, "Just so you know, the red and navy buck's absolutely terrified of you."
