He is sorrowful about the lives he has taken and always tries to make amends for what he's done, seeking out the best in others. Age: Physically appears 34
Height: 6"2
Weight: 210lbs

Equipment:

Sword of Sin:The Sword of Sin has to ability to conjure in the mind of a target on the receiving end of the blade all of the sins for which they are guilty or have not atoned for. For this reason, it is Azrael's preferred blade to use. Like it's sister sword, the Sword of Salvation, it is capable of cleaving right through a target without leaving a mark. Used on a target at the same time as the Sword of Sin, it can bring up both the sins & guilt and the reasons behind them in the mind of the target and the wielder. It is often surrounded in an aura of flaming energy.

Sword of Salvation: The Sword of Salvation, when used on a target, can conjure the truth of a matter in both the mind of the target and the wielder. Used in conjunction with the Sword of Sin, it can bring up both the sins & guilt and the reasons behind them in the mind of the target and the wielder. Like it's sister sword, it is capable of cleaving through a target while doing no damage and it is said that it cannot harm anyone who is pure of heart. Its blade is often surrounded in a smoke-like aura of cool blue energy.

Suit of Sorrows: The Suit of Sorrows was created in 1190 during the Crusades, and given to a Knight, Sir Geoffrey De Cantonna who was supposedly pure of heart. The suit drove him insane, and he slaughtered several hundred people in a remote Alpine valley. To protect the knight’s reputation, there was a cover-up that claimed that the Moors were responsible. The Suit was retrieved by the Order of St Dumas. It is said that the suit is able to impart strength and speed to those who wear it, and in the case of Azrael, it appears to be giving him more resilience and power over time.

Powers:

Enhanced strength:Capable of lifting at least 2 tons or possibly more, the full extent of this power has yet to be discovered by even Azrael.

Enhanced Speed: He can move faster than the finest of athletes.

Enhanced Stamina: He can perform at least for a few hours intensely before he begins to fatigue.

Resilience: Through extensive use of the suit, Baynam has increased its power and general toughness, with the suit able to take huge amounts of damage before it starts getting through to Azrael.

Abilities:

Hand to Hand combat: Even without his training from the Guild, the Order exploited Baynam's physical and hand to hand capabilities as much as they could, and although this has proved a valuable asset many a time, it makes Azrael instinctively ready to fight anyone around him, which makes him feel like he is worse off by naturally distrusting. The training from the Guild of Assassins has only added to this, and he is familar in Boxing, Judo, Kickboxing, as well as various other active martial arts and even some that are no longer practised.

Swordsmanship: His training with some of the best swordsmen and women from the Order of St.Dumas and the Guild of Assassins has honed Azrael's skills to that of a master, not only in crossing swords with others, but planning a battle. He is able to predict through hand and wrist movements what sequence of moves and opponent will try next and will counter it with almost a perfect rate of accuracy.

Acrobatics: Although Azrael is no expert in this field, being incapable of 720-corkscrew flips, his physical capabilities have been exploited to near his absolute peak, leaving him an incredibly acrobatic warrior.

Intimidation and Interrogation: Azrael's appearance, stance and bass voice are naturally intimidating to enemies. He is trained in forms of interrogation and even in torture, though he outright refuses to ever perform the latter. He knows the weakpoints of a human body that are useful in causing intense pain and is sometimes willing to exploit this, to a very strict extent.

Superhuman Strength: Through the Order's experiments and the extensive use of the Suit of Sorrows, Caleb's strength has increased to Superhuman levels. He is able to bench press around 700lbs without even wearing the suit, and regularly participates in intense physical exercise.

Stealth and Assassination: Extensive training within the Guild has granted Baynam with the stealth and unheard killing skills of the premier assassins on the globe. He is trained extensively in Ninjiutsu and other techniques, his ability to blend into the shadows and go unnoticed in combat among the best there is.

Biography: Caleb Baynam was never given a chance at a normal life. Grown in a test tube by the Order of St.Dumas, using the DNA from the man who came up with the idea and worked most closely with it and an assassin mother, he was trained and exploited as soon as he was "born". He was groomed to be a killer and assassin, a perfect arm of the Order. His mind was never truly his own, with thoughts and feelings implanted in him, his origins kept a secret. He was told that his father and mother had been killed, and the Order took him in, and that they swore they would end the murderers. Eventually, a pact between the Order was made with The Guild of Assassins. Not wanting to have their allies think they would not be a useful asset to have, the Order turned Baynam, now the new champion of the Order, carrying on the name Azrael, to the Guild as a peace offering of sorts, to use as they pleased.

Baynam was used to eliminate enemies of The Guild, often remorseless and brutal in the method of his killings. He progressed through the Guild, permitted to keep his title and his equipment gifted to him by the Order, which he had been made to believe belonged to his ancestors. One day, he was allowed an opportunity that he was told many waited a lifetime for. For all that he had done, and for proving his absolute loyalty for the Guild of Assassins, he was permitted to gaze upon The Truth. He was unsure at first, but when he opened the box, all questions were answered, many he didn't want to know. Everything was revealed in a flash, his creation and birthing, how he had been lied to, how the Order of St.Dumas had controlled him. The Truth broke him free from this indoctrination, and soon after he fled from the Guild, faking his own death so they wouldn't search for him. The Order was disappointed that such a valuable tool was lost, but they have more tubes, and can always make more. Now, Azrael has come to Gotham City to pay penance for the lives he had taken while under the influence of the Order. He wishes to save lives instead of taking them, unless for the absolute right reasons. He just hopes he is not too far down into the dark to crawl back up into the light.

Sample: Caleb was on his knees, his hands clasped together in prayer, held against his chest as he did what he always did before and after every night that he was no longer himself. He begged for forgiveness, he repented and he pleaded for the opportunity to redeem himself. Some nights, he wondered if the Lord truly listened, but then he realised that faith was his weapon, not his detriment. He mouthed the single word- "Amen", before he stood, his head bowed towards the small statue of the famous figure on the cross before he walked to the other end of the room, and pushed the rather conspicuous panel so it turned around, revealing another person.

Azrael stood before him, empty, a husk. The Swords of Sin and Salvation were held up at his sides, and soon Azrael was no longer there. He was standing in the middle of the room, fixing on his metal glove before he reached over, slipping the Sword of Salvation into the sheath on his right, and the Sword of Sin into the one on his left. He was right handed, so he put his favoured weapon on his left. It was fitting that this was his more favoured weapon in his more favoured hand, and rather ironic at the same time. He pushed the panel so it turned back and pulled the red hood over the masked face, before calmly walking out of the room and going to the only window in his very small apartment.

Azrael opened the window and stood on the window sill, closing the window behind him before he scaled to the roof, looking out at the city below him. It was so vibrant, full of life, but at the same time in the underbelly there was so much sin and corruption. In ways, Gotham represented humanity better than most cities could. It was not perfect, far from it, but it was not intended to be that way, if it were, why would there be any effort in trying to protect it? He'd heard tales of one who did just that, The Batman. He admired that, that someone would protect his fellow man in his time of need and come to the aid of the downtrodden and the victimised. His white cloak billowed in the wind as he stared down at the bustling cars, helping people while killing their home.
