The last few weeks leading into autumn had been pretty exhausting for Wildflower Breeze. There were a lot of festivals and parties as in the most plentiful season in their generally bountiful swamp, and both the blessed and the story tellers were in high demand. Unfortunately for Breeze, he was both, and, consequently, was booked solid for a long string of appearances from the sea in the south to the sands in the north.

This was one of his very few days off he'd managed to swing, and he was spending it trying not to be found. Fortunately for Breeze, Autumn was a very good season for hiding. Fallen leaves huddled at the trees' feet, and his coat provided the perfect camouflage among fallen maple and oak leaves - with his eyes closed, he was almost invisible. As a bonus, the leaves were pretty dang warm when they weren't damp with recent rain. Today was looking like a nap day, and that was a beautiful thing.

User ImageMash was with child.

Children.

Foals.

She knew how it had happened(being bored and your favorite thing to paint being a buck would do that) but she couldn't quite place how she'd let it happen. Either way she cut it she wasn't pleased with the situation. Nor was she going to let it stop her from her work. So she was out, belly swollen, looking for late blooming berries and the ever rare dry fallen leaves.

Her eyes lighted on a particularly large mound. Eyes glinting she was tempted into it like she had similar groupings in the Autumns of her youth- But, alas, her condition stopped her. Instead she nestled herself down next to it and started to gingerly search for the driest ones of the bunch.

What she got, instead, was a mouthful of tail hair.

The tail twitched irately once it realized it was being nibbled. "Ack," came from the far side of the leaf pile, followed by "argh, damn," and "blast," as the old stag raised his head and shook the leaves off it and his back. He gave the ground a cross look and muttered, "I suppose my day off wasn't meant to be a day off after all. It figures."

With a sniff, the stag turned to address the doe. "Well, miss, you've found me. I'm afraid I can't lead you to any treasure, but I'm sure I can help you in some other way." He paused, then leaned in and peered closely at her. What he saw apparently took the edge off his annoyance. "Oh. Are you another of Cranberry Sour's?"

"Yes, I am one of his many daughters," she answered him with a bitter tone. "And I was not looking for you, but rather the dry leaves you are sleeping amongst." Cocking her head to one sided she sniffed at him. He smelled and looked different. She had also heard tell that the parents of Cranberry Sour were both now swamp touched... "Is it improper to assume that you're my Grandsire then?"

"I am Wildflower Breeze, and I am indeed your grandfather," the stag confirmed. "Though I wouldn't have guessed, had I not met a brother of yours recently. Cranberry Sour certainly seems to get around," he concluded wryly as he stood up out of the leaf pile. "Might I ask your name? And..." he tilted his own head the much way she had hers, either an unconscious mimicry or a shared habit. "Why you were looking for dry leaves?"

She frowned and nodded. "Yes," she said tartly. "He certainly does." She wasn't sure, neither did she care that much, which brother he was talking about. She supposed it was good that at least some of them were still alive or something.
Looking from him to the dry leaves Mash shuffled some of the damper leaves around. "I crush them together with berries and flowers. It helps give the colors from the brighter plants a thicker feel. So I can paint with them." She grabbed a mouthful and craned her neck to place them inside of a makeshift nest on her back. "M'name is Strawberry Mash."

Just reminding you it's here. <3 I edited it to have her giving him her name.

Breeze winced. Obviously the boy was too busy with begetting to give a thought to raising what he'd got. It wasn't the way everyone went about it, but it certainly did mean a lot to some - Mash, for example, seemed mighty sore about it. He thought it might be best to leave off on that subject for now...

"Mixing paints? Fascinating," he said, as he began to root around the leaf pile with her. "Good to see that the arts run in the family." Oh, drat, so much for leaving off. He really didn't mean to mention family again, but his ascension had made him very aware of the stirrings of new life. He buried his face deeper in the leaf pile and muttered, "Good activity to do with little kids." In for an ounce, in for a pound.

It was true that she felt strongly about being around for ones own children, even if you hadn't really wanted or planned on any, and her father was indeed a bruise that didn't really need to be poked. Still, the mention of the arts being in the family gave her pause. "Who else is artistic?" The thought that her love for making the world around her more beautiful was a trait she shared with her family affected her in ways she didn't expect. It made her happy.

Then there was the comment about it being a good activity for children and instinctively her eyes trailed down to her slightly bulging stomach. With an eye roll she mentally kicked herself. Of course a Legendary, even one related to her, would know she was about to lay her own eggs. "I hadn't thought of that," she admitted quietly. Maybe there was a good side to having children, then.

Oh lord, finally! I'm sorry that took so long!
