 Contest start: Now.Contest end: Friday / June 29th / 11:59 pm PST.
After much(or rather a little bit) of discussion in the main thread, I bribed Blue for the absolutely breathtaking acha pair you see above. There had been so much interest and love for the idea that I couldn't stand the thought of not sharing with one lucky person.
That is where you, dear Matope lovers, come in. After making the agonizing choice to keep Luna over Celestia, I come to you offering the paler sister to one lucky and creative winner.
How you ask? It's easy.
Create a kin-themed MLP and their cutie mark.
Here's how:
1. Choose a name for Celestia; keeping with the Matope naming conventions.
( This is really just to sate my curiosity. For reference I have chosen the name Bring In The Night for Princess Luna.)
2. Choose a kin and make them their very own cutie mark.
(It must be a kin that you either already own or are questing for.)
3. Draw your chosen kin as a pony making sure to put emphasis on their cutie mark so that I may see it.
(This doesn't have to be good. I'm looking for a solid concept- Not stellar art.)
4. Write a short blurb, no more than a paragraph or two, on how your MLP!kin earned their cutie mark.
(Be creative! This doesn't have to be serious at all. It can be if you choose, but please keep in mind the light-heartedness of the show these lovely ladies come from.)

Dear Princess Celestia: Have you heard the saying "Good things come to those who wait"? Well, that is a quote that I have always lived by. Only, recently, I started to doubt that. You see, Princess, there's this pony... She's beautiful, Princess. And I love her. I want her to be my one special somepony more than anything else in the world. But she's not the settling type, you know? So, she's been cantering about with other stallions, but me, I've been there for her the entire time, waiting. Because, I believe, that one day, she will come back to me. Well, it turns out I was right! I've always struggled with the two sides of myself; the dark and the light. I've tried to accept the light while rejecting the darkness inside me, but I've found that it makes me an unwhole pony. Today I confronted the darker side of myself, my fears and mistakes, and I found that instead of making me a terrible pony, it made me whole. My dual butterfly symbolizes how a pony can flit between emotions quickly and seamlessly, yet still be the same pony inside.

Secrets are terrible and wondrous things. They can build bonds and break them as easily as it is to whisper. Having a secret is an incredible burden, even if that secret does not involve you directly. Secrets is how I got my cutey mark, though. Would you like to hear the story? I'd very much like to tell you, but remember...it's a secret.
I used to be very popular in Ponyville, many friends in which to help and rely on. Attend fun parties with and buy yummy pastries for. But that started to change as I became confidante to those around me. I loved helping my friends, but their secrets burdened me, weighed down my heart. I'd never felt so heavy before, so tired from all of the secrets tugging at my mind. But I'll never tell them, any of them, because I promised that I wouldn't. Besides, like I said, secrets are dangerous things. By not telling, that's how I gained my cutiemark. That's the story I was supposed to tell you, right? Or wait, I'm not supposed to tell. Is that a secret too? I can't tell secrets, I promised......

Dear Princess Celestia: Everyone always says you'll never know when you'll end up getting your cutie mark and well, they're right.
Today I came upon a scene that plays out everyday, I'm sure. A baby owlcat had fallen from it's nest and was being slowly set in upon by a wolf. The mother owlcat was in the tree, screeching and trying to scare off the predator, but not being able to leave the safety of the tree and her other babies. The baby owlcat was so cute, feathers of grey with black speckles in them, I just couldn't leave it alone to be a wolf snack.
I ran foward and scooped the baby up in my mouth before the wolf could strike. The wolf was less then pleased I'm sure you could imagine. I jumped up onto a lower branch of the tree and slowly started to try and inch up towards the nest. The angry wolf was at the base of the tree, biting at my dangling tail, and then, the mother, who thought I was a new beast attacking it's baby, jumped on me and began to peck at my shoulders and my mane! All I wanted to do was get the baby to safety! Between the two of them, I slipped a few times trying to pull myself up the tree. Maybe I should have just put the baby down on a branch and left, but I was afraid it'd fall right into the maw of the wolf before the mom could rescue it. So I kept at it, between the pecking and biting, I slowly eased my way up the tree and finally dropped the baby into the nest with it's siblings. As soon as I had, the mother jumped off me and started to groom the baby, all the while hissing and screeching at me. I sat on a large branch in the middle of the tree, away from the babies, but far enough up so the angry wolf wouldnt get me. It took awhile, but the wolf finally went away. When I got to the ground and back to my friends, one of them pointed her hoof at me and said I'd gotten my cutie mark!
I could have given up back then when I was between a rock and a owlcat, but I just had to see it through, and now, thanks to me and my perseverance, that little owlcat is going to grow up and maybe be someone's companion!

Dear Princess Celestia:
I wasn't always so ~one with nature~
When I was a young colt, I was pretty wild. All I wanted was to fly higher, faster, and explore new lands, like Daring Do! I wanted to battle dragons, find treasure -- my friends and I would race through the forest, searching for buried treasure and stealing crystals from the carts of the mine-ponies. I knew that this was the path to my cutie mark! I'd do anything for the next adventure, and anyone who stood in my way was a loser.
One day, while my friends were off in the cliffs searching for more crystals, I decided to go explore the Everfree Forest. No pony ever came out once they went in -- it was the ultimate adventure, and I was ready to prove myself and finally get my cutie mark! Without hesitation, I raced into the forest, crashing through the brush and tearing through the vines that tried to get in my way. I would conquer this savage land, and come out alive, and be a hero! Nothing was going to stand in my way!
Well... except the zebra, 'Steady Like the River.'
At first, I didn't know what to think. I'd never SEEN a zebra before. We were different, almost like night and day, but I knew right then that we would be friends. She sang to me about friendship and loving the earth and something about being friends with the little animals, and suddenly... I UNDERSTOOD. Everything I had ever thought was a lie! I felt the earth and the trees and the water, they were ~alive~, and I had carelessly been abusing and destroying them! I realized Steady Like the River was right, all life was ~special~ and was to be respected.
Except not everyone wanted us to be friends.
When my pony friends came looking for me, they were outraged to see I was with a zebra. I tried to explain that we couldn't steal or squash the flowers when we ran around anymore, but they thought I'd been brainwashed! And then one of them raised their blow dart, ready to try to chase away my new zebra friend, so I jumped in front of it! The rock hit me in the chest, but I successfully deflected the blow from Steady Like the River. And in that moment, my pony friends understood.
I was bleeding. Not too bad -- I mean, I was still a tough pony, ok? -- but I had to go home and get a bandaid. River showed me off, and I promised I'd come back and see her. It wasn't until I was at home and my mom was putting on my bandaid that she pointed out I'd gotten my cutie mark!
And we've been best friends ever since. THE END. <3
*As a note, I did use a pony-creator -- hope that's ok;;

I'll be the first to admit that I've always been reckless. There's nothing I'd hesitate to try my hoof at, no matter how difficult or dangerous, simply to give it a shot, but even I hesitated at leaping the Crack. You've probably heard of it, the chasm carving through the dry borderlands of Swamponyville, more than three ponylengths wide at its narrowest and immeasurably deep. Its easy enough for you pegasi to fly over it, but for an earth pony, jumping is nie impossible.
So of course, I had to try it, but not without adequate preparation. I trained for moons, galloping and leaping, learning to jump farther and farther hoof by hoof until I could safely reach three ponylengths, ignoring the voice in my head that said this was stupid, I could just walk around it or hitch a ride from a pegasus. Today I finally went for it, and well, I wouldn't be telling the tale if I'd fallen. Nor would I have learned that it's only by pushing yourself to your limits, despite the dangers this entails, that you can truly grow.

Dear Princess Celestia:
I was born different, I never felt like a pony. I grew up knowing that I wasn't really a pony and I hated other ponies because I looked like them but I didn't feel like them. I didn't like anyone, but through the love of my sister, a pony who doesn't always feel like a pony too, I've come to realize that even if I'm not a pony on the inside, it doesn't mean that I have to hate other ponies for actually feeling comfortable in their skin. Ponies aren't bad and they aren't my enemies, I learned that it's what's on the inside that matters and that however somepony or not pony looks on the outside, it's what's in their heart that matters. I learned that so long as I can love and accept a pony's heart, then it doesn't matter if they're a pony or not.

Dear Princess Celestia: The most amazing thing happened today, I finally earned my cutie mark! As you know I've been rebelling for most of my life against joining the family business. It just seemed so silly for a boy to think of growing up to be a florist, its such a girly thing and what was a point of it anyway? At least that's what I used to think.
This week a friend of mine was in the hospital and when I said I wanted to visit my mother was cool with me going but asked me to wait. Next thing I know I'm heading to the hospital with a bouquet of flowers. It was so rough walking through Ponyville with that in my saddlebag. It felt like all the other colts were laughing at me. When I got to my friend her parents smiled and showed me in. My friend looked so sad and lonely there but then she saw the flowers and her eyes lit up with happiness. We talked for a while and the flowers were put in a vase for her. She kept looking at the flowers and thanked me like 20 times for being so nice and bringing them. On the way home I thought about the change in her at recieving the gift and began to realize the importance of what my family does as a part of the community. Every day someone comes to us seeking a bit of somethign to brighten up their day or the day of someone they care about. At that I felt a warmth on my flank and I looked and there it was, my cutie mark! It's an iris and there's this cool swirl like a gust of wind like I finally stopped to smell the flowers and realized how important my family traditions are to us and to everypony. I've enclosed a picture so you can see! Isn't it the greatest?

Ever since I was a young colt, I dreamed of becoming the greatest inventor ever, but nothing seemed to go my way. Everything I created either already existed, or didn't work. Time after time, my inventions failed me. I was sad, but I did not give up. I kept trying, kept persevering, and finally today, my hard work paid off. I have a working invention AND a cutie mark! Today was really the best day ever.
Oh, and I have a new life motto too. It goes: If at first (or second. third, fourth or hrair*) you don't succeed, try, try again!

I got my cutie mark by staying way too long. ):
I - well…I don't know if I should tell you the whole thing, I mean, it goes on for a bit and I - okay. You see, I'm just wandering around when I see this doe: she's standing at the foot of a mangrove and looking up, like she needs help. So I go over and it turns out her foxbun is stuck in the tree - I don't know how it got up there, I didn't even know foxbuns could climb, but then again I guess they've got pretty nimble paws and - oh, yes, right, sorry, anyway it's just a little too high for her get it down. I can reach a bit further than her, so I pull it off the branch and give it back - she seems really happy and she thanks me, which is nice, and so I say no problem and just hang around for a bit because it's so weird to leave straight away after something that, you know? And so she's playing with her fox bun and I'm standing there and then she looks up at me - what should I do now? I can't make up my mind, so I end up just smiling at her a bit, you know, and she looks away. Well, I can't really leave now, I need to find a good time to, and I'm still standing around trying to figure that out and then after a while she says, "Do you need something?" and I go, "No, thanks, just watching you," because, well, yeah, I don't need anything and I was sort of watching her, so that's all I can say, you know. And then she gets this really strange look on her face and I think she wants to tell me something so I wait, but then she goes quiet and so I keep watching, thinking she'll eventually say it, right? 'Cos she still has that strange look and it would be wrong for me to just go away now, especially since she keeps glancing over, so it must be pretty important. Then finally she says in this weird sort of strangled voice, "I'll, uh, be back later," and she picks up her foxbun and goes away. I mean - wow, it must be something really big for her to have to go and collect herself like that before saying it; maybe she had to ask someone for permission or something. So I can't possibly just ditch her, right? I can't cut and run, she's depending on me. So I wait there. And I wait. And I wait. And then the sun starts setting. I mean, that's okay, it wasn't that early or anything in the first place, maybe she got delayed. So I wait and wait and then it gets dark and it's nighttime and the moon is out and she's still not back. But it could be worse, right, at least there's a moon out, and what kind of guy would I be if I just forget about her and go away? So I wait and I wait and I wait and eventually the sun comes up. ...Well, she never came back, but when I turned around I realised I got my cutie mark. T-that's gotta count for something…right? Uh. Well. I guess that's it. Um. Uh. Thanks for listening. I - well, yeah. That's. Yeah. Alright. Bye now. Um. Bye. See you. Bye.

Let me start this off by saying thank you, to all of you, for showing an interest and putting so much love and energy into my silly little contest. It really means a lot that you all loved the concept and Celestia as much as you did. <3 That said there was one entry that in the end stood out among the rest- It made me laugh until there were tears in my eyes. While being campy this is not a bad thing, oh God the show is campier than hell <3 it was heartfelt, funny, and there was obvious love in the time put in and throughout the message of the little story. So without further ado, I would like to give a HUGE congratulations to- x_Nata_x  Yay! And what's a Celestia kin without Philomena? Nata! Man, I loved how you took Paint's name inspiration and ran to hell and back with it. Reading through it time and again brought a smile to my face each and every time. Decide if the name you chose is definitely the one you want and post both your new Acha and her songbird in the certing thread! heart and be blue was the colorist. Oh lordy, and the most amazing person ever for putting up with me afterwards. AS FOR THE REST OF YOU. Seriously. You all did such amazing jobs and made judging so darn difficult that I couldn't leave any of you empty handed. So Abbacus was incredible and amazingly sweet and made each of you a pet to match your MLP'kin entered. <3 Now go! Away to the certing thread with all of you! For reference- Abbacus did all of these. Like a boss.
