Malodore leaned forward slightly in its seat, focusing avidly on the secretary and the disdainful horseman... well, disdainful he might be, but the plague doctor was certain that Amityville would step up to the challenge. "We should try," it said, abruptly, looking at Riley and then Jericho. "Ah, I would... like to go with you. I have very little physical strength, but as a team, perhaps...?"

The idea of participating in physical trials was rather intimidating, but bringing battle and retribution to the Hunters was going to be physical no matter what. And it was going to bring battle. One hand tightened around Riley's, hard.

The baku's eyes visibly lit up at Amphi's arrival, followed by a big grin as Lizzy showed up not long after. "Hey, you two! And it's no problem." The second part was directed towards the mermaid, and she waved away the ghoul's thanks. Whatever this assembly was about, it seemed important--Xiu had a feeling that she would be left with a lot to think about by the end of it.

Sure enough, the assembly began almost immediately after everyone filed in and settled down. Falling silent, the ghoul stared up at the stage as Arel stepped up to the scamplifier, a frown tugging at her lips as her gaze darted towards the horsemen that was also present on the stage. Just the very sight of the man made her uneasy, and coupled with all that...other horsemen stuff they had to worry about now...

She shook her head quickly, casting away the thoughts for now. No, she needed to focus on this. Xiu cocked her head to the side as she listened intently to Arel's words--trial, special event, groups--only to jump in surprise as the horsemen interrupted.

The "holier-than-thou" tone behind his words did not go unnoticed by Xiu, who was frowning rather deeply at the insinuation that Amityville was unworthy of this chance. The baku briefly turned to make a face at her ghoul friends, but turned her attention back to the horsemen as he continued on to explain what the trials would consist of. It sounded a bit...complicated, honestly, but perhaps this would be a good opportunity.

As the assembly finished with Arel giving the final instructions, Xiu immediately turned to her friends, crossing her arms over her chest and emitting a thoughtful "hmmm". "This sounds...interesting, doesn't it? Maybe a little dangerous, but..." Surprisingly enough, the baku looked tempted--really tempted--but she said nothing, wanting to get her friends' opinions first.

“Some other time.” He answered to Israfel’s request for measurements as he turned to listen to what would be shared.

Invictus seemed to mirror Aisa’s distaste about their trials being given to the students – more in that they were likely to be given watered down variants of it. Nothing impressive, yet at the same time, did they deserve better? There was none of the honor that they had to suffer for in doing it. Perhaps to them it was learning, but…..

He could recall his father watching as he passed the trials what felt like eons ago. That one brief moment when he knew he had his attention. Look what I did. It lingered for a minute, but his expression didn’t change in the least as he considered it. That was simply how it was in their clans. He would watch and see how eagerly the students of Amityville rose to try and meet it.

He too soon rose suddenly to take his leave, if only to clear his head.

--

Sura was uninterested in the trials of Horsemen. She was somewhat uninterested in the Horsemen as well. They were…beyond her home, and beyond her interests. She didn’t understand them. So as the Horseman up on stage tried to put some sort of sentimental meaning behind these trials they were being offered, she found herself struggling to try and understand what it was they were wanting. Did they want to be impressed?

Did they want them to be honored?

Sura’s eyes faded to yellow, then a brief moment of red, before pacifying back to blue as she took the idea into consideration. She did not wish to try their trials. As interesting as it was to her, they were no place for a Colossus. The Colossus did not belong in the society of Amityville and she began to understand it more and more sometimes. Just as the people here did not belong back home. She didn’t understand.

She would continue to try and understand. She would watch. Perhaps she would see, but for her, there was no honor in trying. Mother Father creature would not see, they would not care, and it meant nothing. The Forbidden Lands meant nothing to most who were here. They would never see them. For another moment, her eyes flashed red – anger – and her tail smashed against the floor, leaving cracks from its wake as she seemed to become enraged by this.

All this strength, all of this ‘unified’ ideas. They would not save her home. She would save her home. She had to. It was a strangely sobering moment to find herself becoming angry with such things for the first time. Feelings. She had feelings and she didn’t know what to make of them. The colossus did not comment on her opinion of the matter even as she got up from her seat, trying to not growl as she left the room.

--

Tomoko sunk in her seat, the ball of stars sitting in her lap as she frowned and thought about just what it was the man up on the stage had just told them. That was…that was pretty deep stuff, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to risk embarrassing herself in front of a group like that. She didn’t. No, she wasn’t going to. She could watch everybody else do it.

She wasn’t ready. She had other things to worry about, and….she had other things to worry about. Her ears drooped and she tried to not whine even as she picked up her ball of stars to leave the room now that the announcement was up. Yes. She was going…. Going to go..

And do other things.

And frown.

Aurian, there's a couple of things happening. Are you coming to the assembly? --text

Aurian was making her way to the auditorium, wondering what announcement would be make, when her scare phone beeped. She frowned. She didn't remember giving out her number... Oh wait, she had for the Haunted House mission. Aurian was beaming as she checked her belts for where her phone had been tucked.

"Vaith!" she cheered upon reading the text. Quickly, she sent back.

Quote:
Yes, on my way =) --text

Upon entering the auditorium, Aurian lingered at the back, searching for a familiar blond Reaper. It wasn't until the speech was over that she spied his unique 'tattoo' horns above the crowd, Aurian made her way over.

"Hi! Again!" Aurian was grinning, almost bouncing in place. It was just nice to catch up with friends, okay? Especially so soon after just seeing Vaith. "What did you think of the announcement? Do you have a team? We could... if you wanted..."

Aurian hedged, but her red eyes remained locked on Vaith hopefully. It had been a lot of fun working with Vaith and the others for the Haunted House. She wouldn't mind doing it again.

Ah, so this was to be a trial then? King smiled. He did not think we was up to the task but one might be able to observe, which would better him for other things perhaps. Observation to take into account how they ran, to perhaps take them at a later date.
Truthfully, he felt a bit on his lonesome sitting as he was, and his red eyes scanned the crowd for anyone he knew. True, there were a few acquaintances here and there, but a majority of those he knew were busy, surrounded by others. But one In any case, he - Ears pricked at the familiar voice and the ghost boil went over, hoping he would not be disturbing. "Pardon me, uh King Thackery?" He wasn't sure he even would remember him. "Do you mind if I join you? Ask a few questions about these... horsemen trials."

Yin had been in his dorm room, freshly showered from his regular exercises, when Alexander had surprised him by showing up at his door and telling him there was an assembly he needed to be at. He had followed him halfway down the hall before realizing that a shirt would probably be more acceptable, but it was rather easy for him to go back to his dorm room and then meet up with Alexander again by the time he had gotten to the main doors leading out of the building.

He was unaware if he had caused the zomboil to "hurry" as the pace had, to him at least, been as abysmally slow as always. But they made it to the gymnasium, and Alexander seemed to be looking for something specific, so he followed him into the seat, waving at Mort when he realized why they were sitting there. And then waving at Miss Taryn as well when he saw her.

Then the speaker began, and well...it sounded interesting. He glanced over at Alexander, not sure if it was something that the zomboil would like but...if they tried it together it would at least be worth the experience. Except for the whole "putting his bonded in danger" bit. When the assembly was over he remained fairly quiet except for a simple, "I would be interested in learning more about these trials."

Personally Mort thought he'd sucked egg beaters, having nearly died on a one on one with a Boo of all things, but it was nice to see Whisper take a positive look on an otherwise gloomy experience.

But before he could say anymore, the horsemen spoke. Now Mort wasn't quite sure what to feel about him, as he'd been the one who had crushed so many of them before with his powers, for good or ill: but the zomboil could not deny the lure of the competition. A tournament practically, with a worthy prize at its end . . . He too tapped his chin.

"Mrrr, maybe . . ." Come to think of it, he hadn't heard from anyone on the team in a while, not since his visit to LW many months ago. A pang of guilt hit him; he should've at least texted! "Er, h-have heard from any've 'em?" he asked her. "Is right, do have many things for catching up! For 'sample, am second year now!" he declared with a proud smile. "B-But no horns r' glowy eyes."

And no teacher's pin for proof of passing his exam.

Text to Moure.
Thanks, I'll see you there.

The frost demon quickly texted back, sending the message whilst she was on her way. However, she never really did get to her seat as by the time she got there, the announcement was being made and the ghoul's attention was taken up wholly. The trial of the four clans? Edel hated to admit it, but things were starting to sound interesting.

Rather than quickly find her way to Moure (which she eventually would), a text was sent out ahead to the patchwork.

"Hm. The annoucement sounds pretty exciting, if it means we get stronger." Vaith send in a contemplating tone, glancing back to the front of the stage. That was the general consensus, right? Get stronger. At least, enough not to die again. The assembly had not lasted nearly as long as he thought it would, hardly giving time for Mai to seat herself.

Aurian joined them! The dark-green haired female reaper's enthusiasm was impossible to miss and her hedging manner was charming. Vaith looked back from his chair, glancing towards Mai. "Huh. Do I have a team? If it's me, I'm pretty sure at least two slots are open." He pretended to think it over, his arms spread over the top of the assembly chair, spread apart as if he was on a couch. Assuming Mai even wanted to be in the same group. But if Aurian was in, he guessed that Mai might be in too.

"You wanted ..? We could..? " Vaith prompted Aurian, with a roguish grin aimed at her.

"What were you going to say Aurian?"

(You couldn't blame the guy.)

Riley should have reacted differently. She was sure everyone expected something, but all she did was listen carefully and sink further down into her seat. Malodore was being the strong one, and she was proud of it, but she could think of only one thing as she sat there, and the announcement ended.

Yes. Sure. Can we go now?

She wanted out of that auditorium, and away from the prying eyes of the students, as well as the teachers, before she would even think about what they were going to do for this trial.

Though, the mention of the word trial did trigger a whole new set of complicated thoughts, and she looked mildly distracted as she started to consider some new options. After all, using the circumstances she was surrounded in for her own purposes was her specialty.

The announcement came quickly indeed, even before Mai had any time to properly interact with Vaith. She blinked slowly as she processed the news. Trials hmm? It sounded like another opportunity to better herself, though presently she struggled over whether or not it seemed like too much energy.

But what was this? Mai stood, slipping her arms off of Vaith's shoulders in response to a familiar voice.

"Aurian," Mai said, pleased as ever. "Hello friend." The ghost wafted over and embraced the other ghoul with her usual overfamiliarity. She gave Aurian a smooch on her cheek through the paper seal stuck to her face. "Teams? If you two are teaming up, count me in?" It was posed as a question, but really she was just going to go with them whether they wanted her to or not. The ghost hung there, her arms around Aurian as she glanced between the two reapers. "I think it could be fun-... ah.. interesting."

The scamplifier squealed obnoxiously again - were they ever going to learn to operate that thing properly? - and Thackery's ears pinned back in horror. They rang through the beginning of the announcement, but he got the general gist of it. Trials. He hoped it wouldn't be like either of the exams he'd already taken...both of which had been failed terribly. And those were in the company of strangers! He couldn't shame himself like that in front of Ash.

He might have been the Most Awesome King Thackery (of Pain and Cute), but he wasn't foolish enough to think that he could do something he couldn't do only a month ago. It was a careful rise to greatness...because he hadn't made any wishes to tiny creatures lately.

There was a lot of pressure, but he was going to lead his group to A NEW AGE. That's what coming of age stuff meant, right?

He'd just finished pumping himself up and was looking quite pleased with himself when the boil approached him. Thackery waved him over excitedly.

"Hi, Frost Knight! You're welcome in my company any time. 'Cause you're my knight." He nodded firmly. "Are you gonna participate? Or sit it out?"

Joachim was out of the loop, the musical inclined reaper had paid little to no attention to the current events that had been swirling around campus including the introduction of four clans. As he made his way into the auditorium he caught the tale in of the announcement stated by the horseman and Arel.

Trials and Group? These were the only two words that he had understood from the entire garble of words that were spilled out from the wiggling scamplifier. The last time he had done a group trial with a team he, himself had fail miserable and he was sure that going for another round would gleam the same results. Not that he wouldn't help anyone who would have asked he was just sure no one would.

Merel squeaked happily as she posed in a rather fierce fighting stance on the top of the reaper's head.

The ghoul gave a nod of her head to Invictus, before looking back at Sparrow. “Ah! Is that so? Well, congratulations on your achievement, friend.” She gave the Grim Reaper a grin. “Try not to be too lax, eh? It is good to stay on your toes…especially now…Ah, yes, I have been fine, all things considered! I am very much looking forward to this assembly…”

It seemed like she wouldn’t have to wait long, as the ghoul flinched as the loud, screeching noises before Arel got underway with the assembly. Hel sat rapt with attention, and you bet at the mention of watered down and usually solo a scowl crossed her face. It was seriously starting to piss her off more and more that no one seemed to think them capable. At the mention of working in the trials in groups though, her expression brightened. Would it be like the Haunted House field trip, then? As soon as the assembly was over, she watched as Invictus got up and left, and then immediately spun her body around to look back at Sparrow, wanting to get his input on it.

So, what do you think, friend?” She asked eagerly. “Will you be participating? I know I will be…” Here, Hel also started to think of who she could form a group with…Maybe Mot and Shun again…Mitsu? Who knew…

Looking over at Mal when he heard it ask to form a team, Jericho nodded slowly. A trial... Had he been himself he probably would have taken it as a welcome challenge, however there were many things going on through his head right now. And like Riley, he just wanted to get out of there right now. He could speculate more on these trials and what they meant later. But as far as he was concern, there were too many people concentrated in one spot.

"Yessss. Come on. Lets go," he murmured before getting up, hoping to be able to leave.

---

Once the announcement was made, Shun remained in his seat a little longer, quietly thinking about this news. It was quite an opportunity to test himself. He might have actually been eager for something like this.
