Fish Bones had watched a bird weave it's nest, the next day he watched another do the same. He'd shifted to his foxbun form, to get a closer look, and watched several more birds the same way. After nearly a month of this he thought about trying to make one himself.At first, Fish Bones had no plans to make a basket or other container. He just wanted his own nest to be more birdlike. This task was completed with some difficulty, but since the materials were bigger then a bird would use it got done relatively quickly.It wasn't until Fish Bones saw the eggs in one nest that he got the idea to weave something that could be used to carry things.
So he set about collecting materials. Cattail leaves were the majority, but he gathered any long thin plant matter as well. His first attempts were in his Kimeti form, and complete failures. Even with Bone Keeper to assist him, Fish Bones just didn't have the dexterity, or fingers, to make anything that would work.
After several days of attempting it he changed into his foxbun form to try. It was difficult, but at least Fish Bones now had paws to help him work the grasses and leaves between and around each other. He figured that, now, it was just a matter or practice.
So that's what he did. For weeks, Fish Bones spent all his spare time weaving things. He took comfort in the task. Weaving the leaves and grasses between and around each other was a pleasant task. And he found that the more he did it the better he got.
He even started sorting his materials by color and shape, so he could make patterns in his baskets. They were clumsy, but Fish Bones thought that this, too, would improve with practice.
Still, even his best weavings were loose. Nothing small could be carried in them. Then he found a small turtle shell. He put it into one of his baskets and found it worked well to hold things. Fish Bones also used old bird's nests in place of a turtle shell.
Now his pond is nearly overrun with baskets, shells, nests and the materials to make more baskets. Fish Bones has started carrying a basket with him everywhere. Nestled inside the shell or nest are a variety of items one might like, fruits, eggs, berries or just pretty stones. The items, and baskets themselves, are given as gifts to any Kin Fish Bones sees on his way.
