User Image The doe moved slowly as she tried desperately to remember what she'd heard. She'd never had problems remembering before -- a lapse in judgement or a change of mind was entirely different -- but now it seemed everything fell out of her head in a minute. She remembered his name, Wildflower Breeze, and really at the moment that was about it. It was hard to believe she'd spent a quiet night seeking out information about any kind Legendary that would bless her -- well the children she was going to have.

At least she'd brought a flower as a gift. That was good, wasn't it? If he liked flowers. Oh, Motherfather, help her. This was such a terrible idea. And if the moon had been ruling her head, she might have stood there for an eternity to think it over, but as the sun was hefted high she was going to find him. What was the worst he could do? Call her an idiot and walk away? And that'd only make her mad. She was such a hot-head during daylight.

Her mouth tightened as she hurried her pace, to make sure the flower (well flowers -- she'd grabbed two) would not be dropped and lost. She wondered if the type of flower made a difference. Someone had tried telling her they had meanings and then pointed their nose at two particular flowers, one meant to symbol graciousness and another meant to signal sincerity. She hoped that was all right.

But first she had to find him. And hoped he liked flowers at all. Before her children left her body. (At this rate, she thought the last bit was the most important.)

As it turned out, finding the Legendary buck wasn't terribly hard at all; by a twist of good fortune, he was walking the other way down the same path she was. His appearance would probably jog her memory about what she'd heard; brown coat mottled red, yellow and pink, with a heavy garland of mint across his shoulders, and green eyes bright enough to see their glow in daylight. The ghostly form of a songbird, which she may or may not have been told about, perched on one of his long, gnarled horns, singing in harmony with the tune he was humming. As Breeze neared Fleeting on the path, he nodded his head politely in greeting.

To her it almost seemed like the buck appeared from nowhere. Perhaps he had. And because she could feel at least one warm ray of sunlight on her, she thought, it's about damn time. The annoyance was quickly doused, a little by the fear that he might be able to read her mind (who knew what a Legendary could do) and yet much more by the fact that it was him. A Legendary.

The reaction to bow her own head in return was automatic, even though by now she felt a trembling mess. She should say something. The stems clutched in her mouth made it extra difficult, for one her mind was completely blank and for two she did not want to drop them. Except if she did not say something, he might leave.

"I'm going to be a mother," was the muffled, abrupt announcement. ...what possessed me to think this was a good idea? she wondered to herself, wide-eyed at her own actions.

The announcement made him pause mid-stride and look at her in surprise. He smiled gently, then, and said, "Congratulations. It is a wonderful thing, to have children." He tilted his head as he assessed her nervous body language, and continued, "... Though quite stressful. Would you like to have what aid I can give? I may be able to help set your mind at ease." He settled readily into the routine of offering his duty to an expectant mother, with kind words and gentle assurances.

The doe nodded her head, quite eagerly, at the latter part. Yes that was what she wanted exactly. She felt herself relax some; the mere fact he knew what she wanted and would bless her set her at ease. As much as a first time mother standing in front of a Legendary could be, anyway.

"Yes, please," she voiced softly. And then remembering her gift she placed the flowers on the ground, "A gift for you," she explained. She blew out a breath; this was nerve-wracking. There was no way she'd be in a rush to do this again!

The stag smiled tenderly at the flowers. "Ah," he said as the ghostly bird hopped down from his horn to his back to the ground, "camellia and hyacinth, graciousness and sincerity. And very nice looking, all poetic meaning aside." The ghost-bird picked up the flowers and fluttered up to perch on his back, carefully fussing the flowers into his mint garland.

The buck, meanwhile, walked down the path until he stood at her side, looking at, maybe through her. He was silent a good long while, occasionally tilting his head this way, that way, nodding slightly as though in internal conversation. Suddenly he sighed and walked back around to her front, nodding.

"They will be healthy," he said, "and strong, and good. You can relax; everything is going to be fine."

Whether it was the words or who said them, she once more felt herself relax. Only this time it seemed to stick. "Thank you, so much," she replied. There didn't seem much more to say than that; he liked the flowers it appeared and had told her what she so desperately needed to hear.

She felt rather exhausted from all the nervousness that had coursed through her and with a nod towards the buck, she headed towards a nearby spot of shade to rest. It was all rather tiring.

Breeze watched her for a moment, confused. The blessing was done now, but what had he been doing? Ah, yes - he remembered now.

He turned abruptly and continued down the path, disappearing from sight as suddenly as he had appeared.
