Taken from the originalThe Flood plot RP event.
There was just something short of sublime when it came to catastrophes. She reveled in the heightened emotional state disasters brought. Bodies drifted by, sharp shrills for lost ones punctuated the air, faces twisted with survival instincts, and a few desperate ones tried to seek purchase on their tree. She curled her lips deeper into a genuine smile. She felt so alive. And yet interest at finally seeing the kiokote warred with her dominant, homicidal emotion. She was having so much fun. She never wanted it to end.
Warily, Gloom pulled back Look-see from the edge of their tree. He knew it wouldn't last and Doom was getting in one of those moods again. Unbeknownst to her, she was all but humming with excited energy as her quick, playful eyes darted to and fro at the mass-scale carnage. He, on the other hand, kept on watchful eye on their pride and joy while taking research notes on the flood. He was observing how long it took for various lifeforms to drown. It was a good thing so many small animals kept on trying to climb on their tree. All in the name of research, he maimed them to see how their injuries slowed them down. He also fed Look-see and himself. They had to keep up their energy. His eyes took on the effects of trees falling to the pull of the current, noting it was akin to breaking natural dams. Good to know for future purposes.
To say that Look-See was hard of seeing was like saying bees gave lovekisses. The flood had washed away all her scent markers. All the knowledge she had accrued regarding unique scents was for naught. There weren't many light sources thanks to the clouds. She fretted. She had become obsolete. She wasn't useful to Doom or Gloom. In sheer panic, she hurriedly stepped to the side, but not without tripping and falling into the flood they all tried so hard to avoid. She screamed in alarm.
And just like that, Doom's fun had come to an end. They didn't even have to think. Into the fray they both jumped, urging the distance between themselves and Look-See to shorten. A foxbun had crossed into Doom's path. She bit into its neck and flung the little s**t into the air. She didn't want to know what Gloom was riding that gave him extra height.

les vagues Thoushalt noted the stag's distress and stepped closer to the legendary, lying down next to him and reaching in to softly bump their noses together. "This is not your fault," he reassured the stag, looking out at the destruction around them. "No one could have known something of this magnitude was coming. It is unprecedented."At that moment, Thou heard a shriek of terror and looked up to see a doe flailing by in the water, her bright pink hair tangling around her head and flowers trailing behind her in the current. Without thinking, the chivalrous buck stood and leapt from the cypress platform and into the floodwaters, swimming after the helpless doe.

The Swamp really liked to kick a kimeti when they were down. Like reality, the waves hit her hard in unrelenting torrents. The mechanisms that kept her hair neat were washed away and what little she could see, was all overshadowed by that pink hair. Distantly she heard her name called. She floundered. She kicked, her tail swooshed. She managed to swim in circles but what's the use if you can't see where you're going. Perhaps the Swamp had a sense of humor as she was spared an intimate meeting with an errant cypress. Suddenly, she saw more pink in her vision. Look-See kicked suddenly, realizing another entity was nearby. It wasn't Doom or Gloom. No, stranger danger. She tried to push away but swam straight into a branch, failing to untangle herself as it dragged her deeper into the water. She screamed again.

anemosagkelos Everything was a blur. She had been succeeding in the task of sweet talking a large fish from the mouth of an owlcat--although it could have been that her pet eaglehound's growls were an ever better reason to drop the wriggling prey. And then the rush had sounded, a swelling crescendo of very bad things. She had turned to find a stampede of horse-creatures invading the swamp and the owlcat was gone when she turned back. ( Damn it.) With narrowed eyes, she and her eaglehound had slid off... The kiokote and kimeti had largely been easy to avoid, the cheetahs a little less, and the pets all near impossible. What in the name of the Motherfather was going on? The wall of water had come next--and truly was impossible to avoid. She had been swallowed whole, the whines of her hound cresting underneath the roar of rampaging rapids. Whatever had happened, whatever she had done, she found herself now huddled on a small log. It was large enough that she could stand on it without fear of misstepping--slipping was another matter entirely--but she had curled her front legs beneath her instead. Her hind legs straddled the log, hooves and tail skimming the surface. On the back, Eyes Wander perched carefully surveying the waters. A bark sounded whenever another kimeti got too close. Lull in Sunlight watched many rescue attempts, steadily moving along, a smile of amusement dancing in her eyes though she appeared quite solemn from far away. She looked up in time to see a white doe with vibrant pink hair fall into the waters and almost laughed at the clumsiness of some kimeti--but she didn't. No, laughter outright would be much too questionable. And then an orange haired kimeti and a red edged buck jumped right in after. ( How silly. Though mayhaps she would follow her children--hopefully neither was stupid enough that she'd have to find out.) Her log came up between the latter two and she gave a small smile at Doom's aggressive reproach to a foxbun. She turned her head to the buck, brows squinted--what in the world was he riding on? "You," she called to Gloom, "How are you riding so high?" she demanded. Behind her Eyes tensed into a crouch and the coat of fur and feathers puffed in agitated suspicion.

les vagues Thoushalt reached the struggling doe just as her beautiful (but painfully tangled by the water) pink hair caught on a loose cypress branch. She screamed, and Thou could see the weight of the sinking branch beginning to drag her under. "Don't worry, Miss!" he shouted over the raging waters, "I'm going to try and help!" He dove, swimming underneath her and attempting to break off the heavy part of the branch with his hooves before it drowned her completely.

The Swamp slowed to highlight every millisecond it took for Look-see to succumb to the waters and was freed by her unknown helper. Her dim sight compacted her fear, constricting her throat, but instinct forced her lungs to gulp air down. There was a familiar burn of exhaustion riding her body. It was that voice again. Vanity would be her death. Adrenaline still raging through her blood, she kicked the waters furiously, keeping afloat. "Thanks" she said to where she thought the other kimeti was. He called her "Miss." What was that? Or did he mean she just missed being hit by something in the water? She swam closer to the other kimeti. "I can't see where I..." time lagged "I'm getting tired." She placed her forelegs on his back, willing her heart to not burst out. She hoped he would get her to safety. Distantly she heard Doom and Gloom call after her.
Gloom aged 20 seasons just by watching Look-See go under only to be saved by a purple and white buck. A strange emotion blossomed and it was purely illogical, at wars with his methodical personality. He was seething something close to jealousy. He was slightly taken back. Someone else had saved her, not her family. ********. In times of stress he allowed loss of control over his emotions. And looked to his side. Great. Just what he needed. MotherFather thought his life would be so much richer if it included a judgmental kimeti and her riled up eaglehound. He bared his teeth and then realized his rage was misplaced. Scaling back he addressed her with a look before shifting to allow the dead kiokote's head pop up from the water, its dull eyes staring at the other kimeti head-on. "I assume this is a kiokote." He stepped on the head lightly to have it bob in agreement. Macabre sense of humor this one.
Determination gave her tunnel vision. With Look-See saved and Gloom surfing the waves on his makeshift float, Doom scanned the waters for something climb on. Her hair rushed forward in wet tendrils. She flicked her head to the side and over her shoulders caught sight of a large logging make its merry way downstream. It was just the right size. She swam to the side waiting for it to come down but not before noticing it was already filled with inhabitants. Time to mingle.

les vagues Thoushalt spat bits of twig and bark out of his mouth as he emerged from underwater. Ungentlemanly behavior, perhaps, but at least he had freed the poor doe from that tree branch. "No need to thank me, Miss," he said. "I couldn't very well let you drown."At her comment about not being able to see, Thou swam closer, worried that the doe had gotten debris in her eyes and damaged them -- but then he saw the milky clouds over her eyes and understood. "Oh! Oh, I'm sorry," he said, surprised, "I didn't realize..." embarrassed by his rudeness, Thou shook his head. "Here, um..." he looked around for something for her to rest on but found nothing. "...swim with me and rest yourself on my back until I can find us a log or something to float atop of. My name is Thoushalt."

anemosagkelos The eaglehound took offense to the baring of teeth but Lull did not. She turned her head, staring at the beast for a moment, before turning her attention back to Gloom and Doom. The hound whined at the silent reproach, feathers and fur falling to lie flat. "How resourceful of you," she replied--mouth stretching in a hidden half smile. It wasn't something she herself would have done (appearances were everything) but she could admire the selfish uncaring will to get what one wanted. Wander gave a yip as Doom swam to the side of the log, alerting Lull of the doe's assured want to climb on (or perhaps steal). The kimeti turned her head from the buck and took in the orange-haired doe. "Not trying to take my log, now, are we?" she questioned, quite obviously amused by the idea. She flicked her tail in the water causing the log to drift ever so slightly away from the doe. She waited a breath before using a hoof to right the log's path, allowing it to come once again up against the doe's side. "I may be willing to share..." she mused though gave no inclination as to why or how to persuade her to do so.

Doom was worlds away, half paying attention to Look-See's rescue and trying to focus on the black and white doe with the overeager eaglehound in front of her. She spotted a brown kiokote surrounded by kindred spirits. She vaguely registered the teasing and the threat emanating from the kimeti and pal in front of her. She looked at them without really seeing. Totally not her scene. Reversing course, she left Gloom and Lull to their own devices as she swam forward, noticing the slowing current. Look-See was on the way.
Silent communication bypassed between Doom and Gloom. He watched her swim away. Gloom regarded the stranger. Resourceful. Hmm. Necessary, even. The waters had slowed to a more peaceful rhythm. They were all but side-by-side now. In proper society, he was sure obligations meant he made small talk. Ha! He regarded the eaglehound. Such a shame they weren't larger. Something was nagging him, a most unwelcome emotion. And just as swiftly as the thought came, so did two strangers. He felt something bump into his raft. Reflexes kept him from barreling forward face front. He didn't snarl, but he wanted to. Turning his head he saw his assailants. He looked on with a feeling akin to relief. A watersnake had wrapped its body around a crane and both radiated pissed off intentions. The side of his mouth tugged down. It's not like he intentionally forgot them. Without asking, they jumped onto Lull's log, the swan huffing in annoyance with exhaustive notes soon following. Well la de da, Gloom mused.
Look-See barely registered the kind words and tried hard to remember Thoushalt's name. It had been a while since she had to. The youngest of their group was Strawberry Hill and that was ages ago. Still, she rested her head on his backside, too tired to do any more. Her hair trailed over his sides. She heard or felt the others nearby. Relaxing a bit, she surveyed her raft. "We match" she finally said.

anemosagkelos The disinterest of the female kimeti bored Lull and she took it as a blessing when Doom began to pull away. She wasn't of the mind to feign that which she did not have to. And she was quite sure that both could care little about what she did or said in the end. It was all at once freeing and quite dull; she wasn't sure she liked it. She examined the buck although her vision often blurred to stare into the deep shadows along the sedate water's side. She supposed it was a river now--a river hiding so many secrets. A part of her would have loved to dive into the lurking shadows except she knew that it would be vastly stupid thing. She was not a fish and she did not want to be drowned by her own curiosity. She pulled her eyes up, wandered at the shadowed colors of Gloom's pelt, before her attention was snapped away by the soft growl of her hound. She turned her head to regard the nuisance. Her pet, though she quite liked the beast, was so very protective. Eyes Wander's attention was fixed on the swan and snake. She bared her teeth at the intruders. A high pitched yip warning them away from her and her mistress. Although the swan might make a good meal. "Yours?" the kimeti questioned. She tilted her head, "Would you mind terribly if my hound tried to eat them?" A slow smile spread along her mouth as the hound barked as if pleading for the male to consider it. The whole thing was rather amusing.

les vagues Thoushalt watched, worried, as the doe rested her head on his back. She seemed disconcerted as well as exhausted -- a fact that was not surprising considering her near-blindness. This flood was scary enough when one could see. "We...what? Oh!" the doe's addled comment caught him a little off guard. "You mean the pink...my eyes. I'm mostly purple, actually, but yes," he smiled at her in what he hoped was a consoling way before he remembered she probably couldn't see it, "I suppose we do." He observed her in silence for a few more moments before looking away, embarrassed at himself for staring. "Your hair is very lovely." He coughed and cast his eyes at the wreckage around him for a resting place. "Do you have any, um...family...miss?" The buck realized that she had not given him her name. Ah well, he would put it up to confusion and disorientation. Manners weren't something one could expect in this kind of situation. "Anyone who might be looking for you?"

Look-See panted and strained to hear above the rush of the slowing, but still near, waters. The other buck was waiting for an answer, but she struggled to keep hysteria at bay. "Yes, my family is here. Somewhere. We were separated" a voice that sounded a lot like hers answered. "Purple and pink. Got it" again, the voice answered. She felt like she was there but not really. Shutting down most of the senses, she continued to lay across his backside and willed her heartbeat to a more predictable pace. She barely felt the branch that swam too close and clipped her rump, throwing her off balance temporarily. She scrambled to seek purchase and pressed closer.
Kimeti just weren't meant for the water, Doom surmised. Her heavy hair emphasized that point. Her eyes narrowed at the seen unfolding. She didn't even want to analyze the dominant emotion that had her seething. And then there was that deep blooming insecurity that theirs was a tenuous balance and that soon they might separate for good. But she had a chance to be in control now. For just a litt longer. Surging forward with speed to rival the rapids, she zeroed in on Look-See and that buck. No one ever said she was rational.
"The ties that bind" he would answer if someone asked Gloom how he knew what was on Doom's mind at that point. But since no one ever would, it was an exercise in futility to question the connection all three shared. Funny how in a time of crisis, odd thoughts came in at the most inopportune time. Turning to Lull, he looked her up an down comitting the black and white to memory. He barely spared a glance at the brown and black that was her eaglehound. "Not this time. I'm Gloom" and with a small smile he knocked the swan off of Lull's log and picked up the watersnake with his mouth and pushed off in the direction of Doom. Snare Hare had an uncanny ability to track them down. Turning around, he arched his body and turned it to fling the watersnake onto Doom's head, startling them both. He had perfect aim afterall. Or maybe just stellar observation skills.
The quiet storm that was Doom was jolted from her malicious reverie. Baring her teeth she turned her head side to side to see her assailaint. A smooth red, green and purple wedge peered down from above her eyebrows. Strawberry Hill. What. the. bloody. ********? She shook her head off, a crossed look descending her face as Strawberry Hill climbd higher around her horns, securing itself. Neither knew what was going on. It gave Gloom enough time to get to Look-See and the other buck first. The one that did not belong. "I'll be taking Look-See now" he declared, and in a deft mood, manuvered himself to be Look-See's sole support. Waddling back to his "raft" he deposited her there and pushed forward. He looked back at the pink, purple and white briefly buck briefly and nodded his thanks and farewells. Doom would come to her senses soon enough, but getting Look-See to safety was more important. Down the river they followed.
