Well, if you do not already know, destroyers are your doom and your salvation. You need to pack your list with as many destroyers (as well as heavy destroyers) as you can. Destroyers are fast. agile, and they bring the pain. But in counter to that you should always be using your speed to stay out of enemy assault range (as well as the rest of your army). With a range of 36" it should not be hard to stay out of the way and return fire.
Necrons are painfully slow at I2 and will be cut to ribbons by just about anything in close combat. So a few techniques to help you avoid that: 1) Necron Monoliths are bullet sponges! Deep strike your monolith into the enemies forces and watch them clamber like idiots to destroy it (at which they may succeed, but highly unlikely.) 2) Scarabs are cheap and perfect for supercharging followed the next turn by an assault. Because the are W3 bases they will hold down a unit for a long time (maybe even the whole game) so use a squad of scarabs effectively by charging a heavy support unit such as Marine Devastators and keep them from firing for as long as possible. 3) Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers are the perfect unit, they can tear infantry to ribbons and tanks into scrap metal. Don't be afraid to use them!
and finally, your beautiful Destroyer Lord. He will soon prove to be your most valuable asset ever. Give him a Destroyer Body, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, and a Warscythe and he becomes the ultimate HQ hunter. With T6 and W3 he is immune to instant death, the Phase Shifter gives him a 3/4+, and the Warscythe ignores all saves.
