Scott Thompson

The man, the myth, the... man

Name: Scott Thompson
Gender: Male
Age: 24

Personality:
Scott is not a robot, but he sometimes thinks life would be easier if he was. Crunching numbers, making decisions on only the most empirical of data, an immunity to human emotions. The thought relaxes him during times of stress, but knowing his luck, he’d probably become self-aware, and then where would he be? Right back where he started, with an existential crisis and a metallic death grip.

Hm. Maybe being a robot wouldn’t be so bad.

Scott is obsessed with logic and reason and simplicity in life, but has never been good at cutting out the excess. He tries desperately to boil everything down to their most basic, easily digestible elements, but can never do so without endlessly agonizing over every niggling detail. He’s a worrier, a thinker, a raw bundle of nerves firing every synapse at the slightest provocation. For him, a trip to the grocery store is a fully realized nightmare, ages spent pondering the benefits of two ply toilet paper over single ply.

But anyone as obsessed with facts has to have a certain degree of intelligence, and anyone who can go through their entire life ignoring their own secret power has to have a little determination. Scott’s got both of those things in spades, and while such a cerebral philosophy may make him seem a little cold to the outside world, he has been trying his hardest to marry heart and mind a little more in his everyday life. Failing, but trying.

History: As a child, born to Henry and Layla Thompson in the small town comfort of Alanson, Michigan, Scott was curious, rambunctious, and everything a normal young boy should be.

Niut

She's dead, wrapped in bandages

Name: Niut
Nickname: Newt
Gender: Female
Unsummoned Form: A golden ribbon meant to fit around the wrist, but Niut is usually too careless to transform into the correct size. Scott usually has to twist the ribbon and slip it over his index finger to make sure it doesn’t fall off.
Former species: Mummy

Personality: Niut is a sixteen-year-old girl at heart, but that heart just so happens to be more sawdust than vessels and blood at this point. She remembers fragments of a royal life and a firecracker of a personality, but thousands of years spent in a dusty crypt waiting to amble slowly after grave robbers and crime solving teenagers has left her aloof, detached, and just a touch melancholy. She’s prone to spending long periods in a daze, thoughts drifting lazily inside her own imagination, pondering such topics as what life would be like if she were a butterfly and what makes sparkly things so fascinating. For Scott, it helps to have someone who isn’t going to spend five minutes fretting over a single move in the heat of battle, but Niut is hardly ever invested in fighting. Scott usually has to beg or bribe her to be of any use to him, or in most cases threaten to take her with him if she gets him killed. Outside of missions, Niut usually keeps quiet and to herself, and any attempt to coax her into a conversation is a struggle. Except, of course, when a spontaneous whimsical thought catches her fancy, after which there is no force in the universe that will shut her up. While Niut’s lackadaisical attitude is constantly at odds with Scott’s overly analytical nature, the two share a mutual bond of not knowing what the hell they’ve gotten themselves into with the Hunters.

Past: They come to her in flashes. Memories in the form of brief, dull aches that she can never explain, longing and sadness and mirth over things she has long since forgotten. The touch of water reeds against her finger tips. Suitors in such elaborate jewelry. Unrelenting sunlight on her gold flecked cheeks.

Niut spent sixteen years as a girl brimming with life and thousands more as a glorified corpse. She’s vaguely aware of the most basic aspects of her past – her family was powerful, she was an only child, and she died far too young - but for the most part, Niut is unable to recall anything with too much clarity, knowing much more about her time spent listlessly wandering the dark depths of her tomb than the time she spent alive.

There are those rare instances, however, when Niut’s memories come flooding back. When she has absorbed enough Fear to rise above her usual apathetic station, she is able to remember herself as a fierce Egyptian princess, an object of admiration and affection. A cunning, powerful girl, an embodiment of Sekhmet herself, entire cities reduced to sand at her whim. These moments are fleeting, however, and she has no recollection of them when they pass, always leaving her with remnants of recollections rather than the whole picture.

Hunter Information

Category: Moon: Does the 'hands on' operations, more tied to the defense, repair, rescue and guarding work during missions.

Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter? Scott has spent most of his life consciously ignoring the existence of something significant beneath the veneer of the world as he knew it. The thought of the unknown has always terrified him, which has led him to a life spent quietly pursuing only the tangible and quantifiable. It was only after a very bad day at work and an encounter with a convincing stranger that he tentatively came to terms with the fact that one could only hide amongst single truths for so long. Though, his decision to become a Hunter was more of an impulse than a calculated choice, a distinction he won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Fighting Style: If you rub two stones together long enough and hard enough, general knowledge dictates that you will eventually create a spark. This is the philosophy Scott and Niut employ in battle, as the two are about as useless as a pair of rocks in a fight. Scott values survival over bravery, and Niut can scarcely muster enough motivation to be an effective weapon.

Thus, the two tend to employ a defend and stall strategy in battles. Scott prefers to deflect enemy attacks with the shaft of his spear to allow him enough time to analyze his opponent's patterns and openings, as well as enough time to convince Niut to start making an effort. He knows any attempt to strike with Niut's blade leaves him vulnerable to attacks, which is why he is sure to make every hit count.

Charged Attack: Sekhmet’s Breath - As a princess, Niut’s family was heavily involved with the cult of Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of warfare whose breath was said to have created the desert. When charged, Niut’s blade is veiled by a layer of scorching hot sand. The sand not only increases the blade’s attack radius by several inches, but also causes fire damage to anything it touches. Initially, Niut is only able to maintain the sand veil around herself, but with experience will be able to send short blast of scorching sand at opponents.

Scott’s dormitory is a paragon of utilitarian design. Having grown accustomed to living in a studio apartment, he is used to making the most of cramped rooms. The sparse school issued furniture is arranged with symmetrical precision so as to allow not only the most open space, but the greatest ease of maneuverability. His bed and desk occupy the two opposing back corners of the room, with his dresser and empty bookcase situated on either side of his door. The only other thing taking up space on his floor is the duffle bag at the foot of his bed, the contents of which he changes every week so as to always have fresh supplies for missions.

The room lacks any distracting decor, and is kept in such a state of constant perfection that it looks barely lived in. Scott’s only personal effects sit on his desk, two faintly sentimental mementos from his old life. The first is a Newton’s cradle his parents gave him as a graduation present, with the intention that it would one day find its home on the desk of his own big office. Besides that is a small, framed picture of his cat, Lu, who, despite having found a safe home for before leaving, he finds himself worrying about every so often. Also on his desk are several neatly laid out pens and his journal, which he makes no effort to hide due to the assumption that he will never write anything overly personal in it.
