Every now and again, even the most dedicated, devoted pair of kimeti needed time apart. Even the most well-loved and familiar company sometimes grew stale, and even the most beloved presence sometimes became stifling.

It happened. It was natural.

Cold logic was not very comforting, however, when Serenity was perched on a rock by herself, sulking. Celerity had exploded, as she was liable to, and gone storming off in a huff, leaving a path through the bushes.

She soothed herself by considering their travel plans for the next few weeks. This glade was nice and quiet, all dark and shady, and with luscious leaves and juicy berries within easy reach. It would be a nice place to get to know.

And eventually Celerity would come back with an apology present, and Serenity would show her the best berries and the sweetest water, and they'd be okay again.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It had been a fairly eventful and interesting day, by Pine's standards. There'd been a little chitchat, a satisfying amount of food, and ample sport for a change of pace. Most of him ached in the satisfying way that exertion brings, and his head was full of information to mull over as he rested - nothing important, really but sometimes idle gossip could bring new insight. It always paid to keep abreast of the news.

He was wandering his way back home when, in a glade he'd thought was unoccupied, he found an unfamiliar doe resting on a rock. A new neighbor?

"Hello, miss!" He called across to her, and asked the stupid question - "New here, are you?"

Serenity lifted her head to peer over the roots, at this newcomer. Before she answered -- or even moved further -- she studied him, noting his peculiar branching horns and short tail. "Just passing through," she answered, pushing herself to her feet with a shake of her head. "Is this your area?"

If so, and he wanted her off, there would be a real problem. Celerity wouldn't know where to find her if she wasn't at their last meeting spot, and she didn't know where her sister had run off to.

"Not at all," Pine said, studying her all the while. She had some interesting hair. "I often walk this way going home," gesturing to the west. He tilted his head, thoughtful. "Don't think anyone does live here, so you shouldn't have any trouble."

After a brief pause, he asked, "Just passing through?"

Serenity craned her neck curiously, with a twist of her head so her hair fell back over her shoulders, out of her eyes. "Oh, that's a relief."

At the question, she hesitated a little, idly tapping a hoof against the ground. "In a manner of speaking. I'm waiting for my sister here, you see -- she went off by herself for a while. When she gets back, we'll be moving on." It was a admission she never would've made directly to Celerity, a concession to her sister's wanderlust.

"Do you know this area well?" she asked, shifting her weight slightly. "I think it'll be a few days before I see her again, at least."

Pine listened attentively, then nodded. "Fairly well," he confirmed. "Do live nearby, after all. Pretty good for small game, generally. Raspberries and such nearby, sweet water, soft moss for sleeping," he listed, gesturing in the appropriate direction for each commodity. Gently, he also said, "Good number of people as well, if you get lonely. Family isn't always easy."

With a small shake of his head, he cleared his throat and added, "Name's Pine-Rooted-in-Rocks, by the way, Pine for short. Nice to meet you, miss...?"

She turned her head to follow each of his gestures, committing them to memory. It made her a little wistful, because she wouldn't be able to get to know the place for long, but it would be handy knowledge while she was there.

At his comment, she blushed, scuffing a hoof against the dirt. "No, it's not." Especially when two sisters disagreed so completely on a simple matter like whether to travel or settle down. "Serenity -- just Serenity. It's a pleasure to meet you, Pine. Would you mind perhaps showing me around a little? It seems like a lovely area."

Pine blinked - once, twice. It pained him to see that his guess was right, but family spats were common. Came from living so close for a long while. Bound to be chafing, along with devotion. Sad, but true.

"Lovely name. Be honored," he replied somberly. Stepping sedately to her side, he asked, very simply, "What first? Bounty, well, neighbors or bedding?"

Serenity scuffed a hoof against the ground, almost shyly, and peered up at him. "Thank you. The bounty, I think. I haven't eaten much recently."

She'd been, well, honestly she'd been too busy sulking. She and her sister knew how to hit each other's buttons, and both of them had been upset at their parting.

The antlered buck nodded his head sharply. "That'd be right this way, then," he said, and led Serenity northeast at his usual brisk pace. He would have been polite enough to slow down, of course, if she asked. It was simply natural for so active a buck to move casually at a fair trot.

After only a short walk through the weathered trees and undergrowth they arrived. "Raspberries and such" turned out to be a great, loose thicket of bushes that grew in a huge swath. Here and there a tree rose out of the rows and tangles, but mostly the shrubbery was clear of cover, and the sun shone merrily on them. They were obviously thriving, for even though this was a well-frequented place, there were plenty of berries still on the branches.

Pine stood to one side as Serenity entered the clearing, and offered cheerfully, "May I present what's known to us locals as the Bounty?"
