The art of using puppets in battle was developed by the Hidden Sand Village. Over time these skills were passed down through the generations. The earliest known puppet master was Chikamatsu Monzaemon, who developed the art and passed it on to the next generation. The oldest living master was Granny Chiyo, and her grandson Sasori later became what many consider the greatest puppet master of all time. When Sasori fled the village, Kankurou was given his puppets and took up the role as the village's up and coming puppet master.

Kugutsu and such puppet arts are a unique type of jutsu that takes a certain mindset to properly use. Without being in the Puppet Class, you cannot learn them.

Kugutsu no Jutsu [ Puppetry Technique ]
Rank: E
Range: Short [ ~10m ]
Description: The most basic Kugutsu technique that allows the user to utilize puppets to attack and be maneuvered from afar. The user emits "strings" of chakra that will reach from their fingers to their puppets. While strings are attached to a user's puppets a variety of actions may be possible: like reloading ammunition and tools, creating basic physical movement, and when possible the user may attack out of immediate sight of the enemy. Use of this technique generates one string per finger on each hand and attaches them to the user's deployed puppets. This jutsu connects strings up to the maximum number of puppets or targets the user is capable of, as desired. Re-application of this technique is required on puppets that are switched out or added to combat. Unattached strings are destroyed if left alone. The user's strings are also visible unless masked by an additional technique or a stealth node device. Moreover, strings will remain active until cancelled or broken by the user or another capable force. Though puppets can stray far from their controller, they must be close in order to be affected by this technique. Once connected, puppets can travel anywhere within this technique’s range, so long as the user can perceive their destination.

Kuchiyose Kugutsu: Ban [ Summoning Puppetry: Number ]
Rank: X (Trained as E)
Description: A simple technique that must be learned before the user can learn any other puppet techniques. Learning this technique imparts a unique form of Kugutsu-based seal which is typically placed onto blank scrolls. A hand seal is necessary after having opened a single scroll to replace the scroll with a designated puppet. Summons one [1] puppet per use of this technique, per rank. There are no prerequisites for this specific sealing technique. If paired immediately with Kugutsu no Jutsu, this technique does not consume an activation. Learning this technique additionally satisfies E-rank Kaifu and Funyuu training.

Harigane Tachikiru [ Forceful Severing of Wire ]
Rank: E
Description: The user will quickly release their strings' control over a puppet, causing their strings to disappear and allow them to maneuver more freely. Because it forces the user to release control of a puppet, it is typically only used in cases where dodging is an immediate necessity. Works for all Chakra String techniques, except where noted.

Tansen [ Solid Wire ]
Rank: D
Range: Short [ ~10m ]
Description: A version of Kugutsu no Jutsu wherein the strings remain even if severed. If fully severed from the user, these strings lose all chakra signatures, allowing for string traps to be laid ahead of time. As the strings are more solid, they do not glow brightly, and are not translucent. In turn, this allows for opponents to track a hidden user, simply by their now obvious strings. If any Tansen strings are laid over each other upon disconnect, they will fuse where they touch.

Hyororito [ Long and Thin ]
Rank: D
Description: Dissatisfied by the short lengths of wire being produced, an avid Kugutsu artist developed a way to lengthen their chakra strings. By molding and shaping their chakra, they were able to produce longer strings, but at a price. This, however, did not stop the avid artist from taking advantage of even this development, furthering their career to new heights. Upon activation, one hand's strings (any type) will lengthen. For each doubling of length, the defensive rank of said strings will lessen, to a minimum of E. Strings at E-rank durability will not allow any further lengthening. This can be made into a tactical maneuver by anchoring either oneself or a target.

Tankyori [ Short Range Distance ]
Rank: D
Description: Dissatisfied by the long lengths of wire being produced by experimentation, an avid Kugutsu artist developed a way to shorten their chakra strings. By molding and shaping their chakra, they were able to produce much shorter strings. This, however, did not stop the avid artist from taking advantage of even this development, furthering their career to new heights. Upon activation, one hand's strings (any type) will shorten. For each halving of length, the defensive rank of said strings will increase, to a maximum of the user’s body rank. Strings at that rank will not allow any further defense increase, but can be further shortened as desired. This can be made into a tactical maneuver by anchoring either one's self (drawing the line's target to you) or by anchoring the other end (drawing yourself towards the target).

Shiirete Siru [ Replenishing ]
Rank: D
Description: When the user's puppet has been dismissed, they will perform a somewhat long string of handsigns, causing the puppet's ammunition to be refilled. To use this jutsu, any puppets to be restocked must be dismissed (or not involved in combat at the time of use). Maximum of one puppet per use. Any stock of small or medium projectiles may be replenished with this jutsu. Stocks must be from the Puppeteer's inventory and kept track of by the user.

Kugutsu: Shunshin no Jutsu [ Puppetry: Instant Movement Technique ]
Rank: D
Description: Nearly exactly like the Maruton version of Shunshin, this jutsu allows the user to travel within their own chakra threads, up to the normal distance allowed by said threads. Shares usage limitations with other versions of Shunshin. The user may, instead of themselves, send either another puppet or an ally through the strings. Requires the end of the string to be non-attached, else the string will become so once the user/target approaches the end. 1 target only, per use.

Gyakukuchiyose Kugutsu [ Unsummoning Puppetry ]
Rank: D (Null after learned)
Description: This technique initially allows the user to dismiss a single puppet after performing a set of handsigns. Although the puppet can be dismissed at any time, it normally requires a short intermission and this technique cuts out the wait and returns puppets immediately to safety. Minimum use at Rank D - relearning this technique at higher levels will dismiss more than one puppet, with each rank doubling the amount. If used on an opponent's puppet(s), it requires physically touching them. Takes up the same slot as the Fuuin version, if known.

Harigane Hajiku [ Wire Snap ]
Rank: C
Range: 40 meters
Description: Realizing the costs of using Harigane Tachikiru [ Forceful Severing of Wire ], this technique was developed to allow the user to connect to any available strings at an alarming rate. The user will simply bring forth chakra to one hand's fingertips, aim at a puppet or target, and use a burst of chakra to connect up to five threads nearly in an instant. Other than the effect and range, these impromptu strings function exactly like the E-rank chakra strings. This technique is also great at surprising opponents, if they have any lingering chakra strings on them.

Shinkuu Kugutsu [ Hollow Puppetry ]
Rank: C
Range: 40 meters
Description: Chakra strings made specifically for mechanisms, instead of movement, these more rigid strings are cylindrical in shape. Having a hollowed inside allows for one to transfer hazards away from themselves, either to an unattached end or to one's target. Attaches to one hand per use. When used for movement, these strings act as the E-rank Kugutsu no Jutsu, but when used for mechanisms, it adds a hazard from one's inventory to said mechanism. These strings are easily tangled by D-Rank or higher movement.

Guruguru [ Turning Around and Around ]
Rank: C
Range: 40 meters
Description: Chakra strings made specifically for movement, instead of mechanisms, these more loose strings are fluidly produced. Having a flexible inside allows for one to spin themselves or their target, depending on which is anchored. Attaches to one hand per use. When used for mechanisms, these strings act as the E-rank Kugutsu no Jutsu, but when used for movement, it allows the target to be moved in place, circularly. These strings are unable to be tangled.

Kikou Junpuu [ Light Shield Seal Mechanism ]
Rank: X (Learned as B)
Description: Kikou Junpuu is a Ninjutsu technique used by puppet masters. This shield is created when chakra is emitted in the form of a disk from panels which fan out from the puppet arms. This chakra can block many deadly attacks but some attacks, such as Satetsu can gum up the puppet joints and render the arms useless. At least one freely moving limb is required for use. The shield is effective enough as to reach across the entirety of the puppet from one angle.

Susumu: Eison [ To Improve: Durability ]
Rank: X (Learned as B)
Description: This technique was developed by extending the user's chakra manifestation image down the chakra strings to their puppet, where it took on a fascinating form. Use of this Kugutsu temporarily builds up the defense of a single puppet's entire armor set, based on the rank applied, and lasts until either the chakra armor fulfills its purpose, or the user has one [1] relaxation post. The technique's cost is one rank higher than the armoring beneath it, with S and S+ acting as 'heavy + layered, very light' and 'heavy + layered, light'. This buff extends to any target also being affected by chakra threads, regardless of being a puppet or not. If the target of this technique has all chakra threads cut from it, the buff immediately ends. Chakra armors cannot simultaneously stack, even if they are Korabo'd. Reapplication is possible without using an activation, once a post. The armor created by this technique is treated as though it were standard physical armor, not Ninjutsu.

Susumu: Kousoku [ To Improve: High Gear ]
Rank: X (Learned as B)
Description: This technique was developed by extending one's chakra manifestation image down the chakra strings to their puppet, where it took on a fascinating form. Use of this Kugutsu temporarily builds up the movement of a single puppet's speed, based on the rank applied, and lasts until either the user moves, or the user has one [1] relaxation post. For each rank of this technique, the user can increase the speed of 1 puppet on a hand by one rank. A puppet’s speed can be increased more than once per usage of this technique. This buff extends to any target also being affected by chakra threads, regardless of being a puppet or not. If the target of this technique has all chakra threads cut from it, the buff immediately ends. Bonuses from additional uses of this technique do not stack with each other. Reapplication is possible without using an activation, once a post. This technique is not disrupted by enemy attacks directed at the puppet and not the strings.

Nebaru Himo [ Sticky Strings ]
Rank: X (Learned as B)
Range: 80 meters
Description: Sometimes droopy, other times taught, the world of deceptive strings stands tall with wires that act as traps. With a small, built-in defense ability, these sticky strings are tough enough to stand on their own. Applies to one hand's puppet(s). A sticky, goopy sort of string that gums up the internal operations of a puppet without appearing any different from normal strings. Sticky strings will stop projectile attacks that cross them and treat all physical attacks as though they were unmodified simple attacks without descriptive increases. Puppets controlled with this string type only have access to one mechanism.

Ganjigarame [ Binding Firmly ]
Rank: B
Description: Damage to weapons and armor during battle is nearly unavoidable, especially for the Kugutsu artist's puppets. This technique allows for a small window of time where the puppet's main form is recovered. Damaged mechanisms will not be repaired. This technique pulls separate pieces together to temporarily repair damage up to its rank, but halves the wire range for each post beyond the first. Once the puppet takes additional damage, or the battle ends, this technique lasts for two more posts before failing.

Bane [ Springy ]
Rank: B
Range: 80 meters
Description: Hit and run tactics are the bread and butter of military strategies against tougher targets. With a Kugutsu artist's limited inventory of puppets on hand at the battlefield, this string type allows for safer deployment and maneuvering. These wires cause puppets to snap back to the user's side at the end of a post. Movement costs are doubled for affected puppets, to allow for the journey back. In addition, all physical attacks towards these wires are treated as Spiritual for damage calculations, but gain no descriptive increases. Applies to one hand's puppet(s).

Ugomeku [ Crawling ]
Rank: X (Learned as B)
Range: 80 meters
Description: In some situations, having a stationary defensive setup is necessary for survival. This technique roots a single hand's puppet(s) to a surface and prevents outside forces from removing it. This setup still allows for normal puppet movement across the surface, but will prevent jumps, rolls, and other acrobatic abilities. This string connects with and slithers across a surface like a snake to latch onto a puppet in contact with that surface. This thread is invisible to the naked eye and can't be broken without destroying that surface. Attached puppets cannot leave contact with the surface lest the connection be severed. They also cannot be forced off of the surface by anything this string's rank or lower.

Senju Soubu [ Thousand Hands Manipulation Military Art ]
Rank: C
Description: A specialized summoning technique that summons a copy of the limb it is attached to, each of which can then summon another, and so on, until 1000 limbs are reached. Requires C Rank training in both Fūnyū no Jutsu [ Enclosing Technique ] and Kaifū no Jutsu [ Unsealing Technique ]. Additional limbs may include attachments present on the base limb.

Harigane no Ken [ Bladed Wire ]
Rank: A
Range: 160 meters
Description: After detaching a chakra string from a puppet, the user will lash out at their target as if the wire were a whip. Because it is formed from pure chakra, the wire is very difficult to physically cut and is as sharp as a well-crafted blade. Chakra slashing/blocking techniques are effective against this.

Hyakku Kugutsu Tamashibari [ Hundred Puppet Soul Binding ]
Rank: A
Description: The user marks their puppets with a special seal. When destroyed, that seal drives a chakra “bolt” into the person that did the deed. After acquiring five of these bolts, the target falls under the user’s control as though they were using Sōen: Hitomi Gokū [ Puppet Performance: Skillful Achievement with a Human Body ]. At this time, the bolts manifest as shackles around the target’s wrists, ankles, and neck, and can be destroyed individually with a targeted Kai [ Release ] at B-Rank, thereby freeing the limb. A target may also break free from this technique’s control by expending an A-Rank amount of chakra twice, taking one activation each time to do so.

Sōen: Hitomi Gokū [ Puppet Performance: Skillful Achievement with a Human Body ]
Rank: X (Learned as A)
Range: 160 meters
Description: A puppet performance technique where chakra threads are attached to various spots on a person's body: the head, torso, both arms, and both legs. The person being manipulated gains the ability to not only use their own techniques, but the skills of the puppeteer as well. To perform this technique with a living person would normally require both parties to cooperate with each other. However, a highly skilled user can control the target by force if the person is severely weakened or damaged rendering them unable to resist. Auto-attaching. Specialty threads towards biological life are extended and attached to any being nearby. If used offensively (without permission), the target can merely expend more chakra or stamina than was used to initiate this technique, to pop the threads off of them and prevent them from being Auto-Attached again for another 2 posts. If used on a willing participant, the user's puppet formless rank may be transferred to the participant to stand in for whatever maneuver the puppeteer wants to make.

Hitokugutsu no Jutsu [ Human Puppet Technique ]
Rank: A (Requires Jounin title or equivalent)
Description: After slaying or scavenging a fallen shinobi, the user is capable of creating a powerful human-style Puppet. The puppet crafted by this method retains certain abilities, dictated by the creator's ranking. Unless they have a discipline that allows it, the user cannot make themselves into a human puppet with this jutsu. Human puppets must be approved as custom puppets.

Indigo Secret Technique: Master of Manipulation
Rank: A
Description: A Kugutsu technique developed by Tetsuhiko Hanzo which allows the puppeteer to use the chakra contained within the string(s) offered by the Kugutsu no Jutsu [ Puppetry Technique ] to control an enemy technique by making contact with the Jutsu via chakra-seeking threads. The string(s) must contain the same amount of chakra as the technique it is attempting to manipulate. If the jutsu is in more than ten pieces, not all of them can be manipulated, as it takes one finger per piece to manipulate them. This technique is mostly used for a quick redirection. Requires: Kugutsu no Jutsu [ Puppetry Technique ] and Sōen: Hitomi Gokū [ Puppet Performance: Skillful Achievement with a Human Body ] to be known prior to learning this technique. Master of Manipulation can take control of a ninjutsu.

Indigo Secret Technique: Tragedy and Comedy
Rank: E
Description: The Indigo Secret Technique: Tragedy and Comedy was developed by Tetsuhiko Hanzo. It is an incredibly simple technique where two puppets trade places with each other instantly in a similar manner to the Substitution Technique. As a result, Tragedy and Comedy shares usage limitations with Kawarimi no Jutsu [ Substitution Technique ].

Indigo Secret Technique: Master's Threads
Rank: D
Description: Master's Threads is a Kugutsu technique which enhances the puppet strings provided by the Puppetry Technique. By mastering chakra control over the strings they take on the durability and quality of steel-cutting wires which can cut like swords and can be manipulated like extra appendages rather than simple tension wires. The puppeteer can use these enhanced threads as weapons by whipping opponents, constricting opponents, they can use them to maneuver quickly through the battlefield by attaching them, swinging, and increasing or decreasing their length, etc. Requires knowing Kugutsu no Jutsu [ Puppetry Technique ] before learning.

Indigo Secret Technique: Siphoning Strings
Rank: A
Description: Siphoning Strings is a Kugutsu technique which enhances the puppet strings provided by the Puppetry Technique by giving them a chakra draining ability. By spending a B-Rank amount of chakra to turn the strings into bio-seeking specialty strings, the puppeteer can extract an A-Rank amount of chakra from the subject per post (user's) and add it to their chakra pool. The strings will attach to an opponent within a line of sight range with however many free fingers the user may have. To break free from the strings, the victim can simply expel a B-Rank amount of chakra. The strings can also attach to an oncoming technique and siphon up to an A-Rank amount of chakra out of it, but the user only receives half the chakra siphoned and the siphoning is ineffective against S-Rank techniques. If the opposing technique is split up into more than ten pieces or is simply too quick, then this drain will be unsuccessful. Requires knowing Kugutsu no Jutsu [ Puppetry Technique ] before learning. May suck the chakra out of a ninjutsu or a person.

Kuro Higi Kiki Ni Hatsu [ Black Secret Technique Crisis of Two Début ]

Description: Using a puppet with a container, the user will release Chakra threads from the container and pull in a target. Any hidden blades in a puppet’s body can then be used to strike the ensnared opponent. Can be used as a trap.

Kuro Higi Sanshouuo [ Black Secret Technique Salamander ]
Rank: X (Trained as B)
Description: The user leads a target to a spot above a puppet with a container, then activates this technique. The puppet bursts out of the ground and captures the target in its container, then reinforces the insides of the container to prevent escape. Permits the capture and containment of as many people as can fit in the container. The internal defenses protect against attacks lower than this technique’s rank. Can be used as a trap.

Kuro Higi Kiki Sanpatsu [ Black Secret Technique Mechanism Triple Shot ]
Rank: B :: Augment
Base Technique: Kuro Higi Kiki Ni Hatsu [ Black Secret Technique Crisis of Two Début ].
Description: Using two puppets with containers, the user executes the same maneuver as before, but this time reassembles both puppets to create a larger container before activating the hidden blades. This container is capable of withstanding attacks up to this technique’s rank. Can be used by multiple puppeteers at once as an impromptu Korabo requiring no prior Korabo training. Each additional puppeteer reduces the cost of this technique by one rank.

The user will emit ten strings from each finger, allowing control over one hundred puppets. This action occurs almost in an instant, allowing each puppet to be ready for use rather quickly.
Guild Description: See the official description. Does not need to be used with Hyakki no Souen [ Red Secret Technique ]. However, If used with Hyakki no Souen [ Red Secret Technique ], this does not require chakra to perform or consume an activation.
