Name: Raina Amada Araya
Meaning: Raina Amada Araya can loosely translate to Queen Beloved of the Ancient City

Nickname(s): Raina cannot be shortened to much! There are some people in her class who refer to her as "Ray-Ray," though.

Age: Thirteen!

Sex: Female

Birthday: August 4th, 2007

Zodiac Sign: Leo
"I Will" -- Leos are known for being big-hearted, friendly folk. On the downside, though, they are jealous and egotistical, believing the world revolves around them.

Gemstone: Carnelian
Traditionally linked with the month of August, Carnelian is a deep red semi-precious gemstone which is well-known for resembling the color of blood. The gem's name itself comes from the Latin word carnis referring to the fleshy color the gem can also take on.

Origin: Raina is Celeste City, born and raised. However, since her father is an immigrant, she and her brother Ignacio are the first full generation born within the United States.

Bloodtype: Type O
Typical Positive Traits: Agreeable, sociable, optimistic
Typical Negative Traits: Vain, rude

Height: Currently Raina is about 5'4", having gained about seven inches from her growth spurt.

Bodytype: Raina has developed a very solid lithe frame from years of learning how to dance. In general, she is slim, but her shoulders are broader than the average girl's and she could probably lift a fair amount of weight for someone her age. That being said, her physical age is relative, and as she matured quickly, many people are placing her physical age at fifteen, not the twelve she actually is. (In this respect, her art is out of date, and she looks much older than she is--keep this in mind!) Raina's skin is a peach shade slightly darker than her older brother's, and she has freckles dotting her cheeks and upper arms.

Hair: Raina has the dark hair of her father. She let it grow long and now gathers the majority of it into a large bowed high ponytail that goes to her waist. She changes the bow depending on what outfit she is wearing, but it is most often a soft purple color.

Eyes: Raina shares the bright yellow eyes of her brother and their mother. Her eyes are wide... well, when she doesn't have a mischievous expression on her face.

Fashion: The twelve-year-old tends towards clothes that allow for a lot of free movement with easy breathable material that keeps her from getting warm even on the most active days. In general, she tends towards outfits with gaucho pants, and either a light-colored sundress or patterned tank tops like so. During the cooler months, she tends to wear graphical t-shirts with funny sayings.

Personality Traits:
"Let's be friends!" -- There is no denying that Raina loves people. The young girl thrives off social interaction, doing everything she possibly can to get herself into the forefront of a conversation where she can happily chatter someone's ear off for the rest of the day, or teach them a new dance move she just learned (remember that retro Macarena thing? Watch me!), or even just pass off a video game controller to them so she can kick their butts in a racing game. Whatever it is, Raina insists on having people around her at all times of day to interact with them enthusiastically.

"Bet that gets the heart pumping!" -- Raina seems to run on an endless reservoir of energy stored somewhere in the ether. Nothing seems to particularly slow this preteen down as she eagerly tackles everything in the day with the type of energy only seen in those with a true of the world around them. She loves spending her day doing things that are exciting, things that get her blood pumping and her mind soaring at rates that a lot of people are completely exhausted by. Perhaps Raina missed the meaning of slowing down and relaxing, but at the same time, perhaps she doesn't need to.

"It's okay, I'm here to help!" -- Raina, though quite centered on herself, is not necessarily oblivious. Other people's frights and problems quickly become clear to her; if they aren't enthusiastic about what she is showing them, or can't keep up and have a frown on their faces, she immediately wants to know what is wrong and what she can do to fix it. Break-up? It's okay, they can eat some chocolate together! Puppy died? Oh no, let her hug them tight and tell them that puppy is in an awesome place with all the bones he could ask for now. Raina hates seeing sadness in other people and will strive to do anything she can to fix their frowny face.

"I WANT IT NOW!" -- Raina wants everything to go her way. In fact, she expects it to go her way. When it doesn't, there are problems. Big problems. Perhaps partially routing from the fact that she learned tears sway her father into agreeing to whatever she asks him to do, Raina has become quite inclined towards temper tantrums and rampant bawling whenever something just doesn't go the way its "supposed" to. She expected an A on that Vietnamese test--why did she get a B?! FIX IT! What do you mean she can't have that puppy? But, but, puppy!! Admittedly, the young girl can whip up a mighty convincing pair of puppy dog eyes...

"Look at what I can do!" -- Raina is nothing if not a bit of a braggart. All children are proud of their accomplishments, sure, but Raina is especially proud. She just learned a new dance move; everyone has to know. Everyone has to see. She just mastered the pronounciation of a word in Vietnamese. Listen to her, Melody! Ignacio! Papa! Kid over there! She spouts her achievements at all moments possible even when it upsets others, because she just has to let everyone know how completely special awesome the new trick she learned in her racing game is.

"Don't leave me!" -- Raina's love of people and social interaction has lead to one major problem: she hates being without it. Solitude is a notion not only hated by Raina, but also one that is completely foreign. Raina requires the constant presense of family or friends around her, and when even one leaves for a little while, the young girl quickly becomes upset. She'll cling to their leg, she sit around and cry because of their absense, and she'll become generally less functional and enthusiastic until their return. If someone is gone for a particularly long time, Raina is known to take on an obsessiveness towards their belongings, hugging even a shirt close in an attempt to comfort herself.

"You're the Lord of the Dance!" -- Ever since she was just as little toddler, Raina has always enjoyed moving her body. She has constantly felt propelled to move from the moment she figured out how to crawl, so it came as no surprise to her parents when Raina expressed an interest in learning how to dance. From the moment she was registered in classes as a four-year-old, little Raina has never looked back. When she is not in her jazz classes slowly learning how to shuffle ball-kick her way into the recital, Raina is usually most likely to be found blaring random electronica or video game music just so she can dance around the living room to it (while others watch, of course)!

"So I'm the superhero, and you're the kitty in the tree!" -- Raina loves to play games of pretend. Being something or someone else for her is thrilling, and she can't wait until she can tie a cape around her neck and call herself a superhero fighting for JUSTICE and THE AMERICAN WAY. Unfortunately for others, Raina tends to drag everyone else into her pretend dress-up games as well, insisting that others wear things that might look utterly ridiculous on them just so they can be the villainous cheese in her childish story. She loves dressing up people in various costumes, but perhaps more than that she loves to be standing victorious at the end, with her foot on her brother's stomach while he is forced to wear a tutu.

"Ha, beat your time!" -- Ignacio's on-again-off-again relationship with video games eventually got Raina's attention, and she insisted on getting a shot at the controller. It was that moment she discovered the adrenaline rush of racing video games, and she learned to love it immediately. It is not uncommon to find the young preteen, between her dancing about the room and her flights of fancy, simply sitting down on the living room couch, flying down the street in her new Alfa Romeo 8C, making fun of a friend over a headset.

Favourite Food: (optional)

Least Favourite Food: (optional)

Family: Baldomero Ignacio Araya (father), Lorna McLaughlin-Araya (mother), & Ignacio Cesar Araya (elder brother).

School: St. Michael's Preparatory School.
She does, in fact, live with her family at home--Lorna agreed to let her children go to the preparatory school on the condition that they got to come home after 4:30. Baldomero begrugingly agreed.

Grade: Raina has recently entered the Seventh Grade. When the school year starts, is she in junior high, then?

Favourite Subject: Raina loves her Vietnamese classes! She was already fluent in Spanish, so she decided to learn one of the languages her beloved big sister speaks. It makes her proud when she can puff out her chest and declare, "I speak Vietnamese!" to Melody.

Least Favourite Subject: History. Eww. If it happened in the past, who cares? Raina certainly doesn't! It's not like past events are actually going to come back and bite her bum or something... right?

Senshi Name: Sailor Canes Venatici, Senshi of Prevention
Name: Raina Amada Araya
Power Source: Prevention
Alignment: Ow, ow, stop hitting me with your Light Stick :< I'll be good.

Fuku: To be honest I'm not that picky! I'd prefer something dog-themed, at least, most preferrably off the idea of a husky. Whoever is her artist can go from there! Just keep in mind she's still relatively young, even if she's finished most of her growth spurt, so I'd prefer something nearly full covering.

Weapon: Canes Venatici actually has a simple black whip! Nothing too fancy, but it is cracked during her attack, similarly to how someone would tame a pack of dogs.

Normal Senshi Transformation Call: Canes Venatici Power, Make-up!
Super Senshi Transformation Call: Canes Venatici Constellation Power, Make-Up!
Eternal Senshi Transformation Call: Canes Venatici Crystal, Make-up!

Normal Senshi Attack:
"Canes Venatici Power, Make-Up!"
"Safety!" (Buff / Attack) - Canes cracks her whip against the ground and declares, Safety! Once this word is said, for a chosen target--of which she can be one--they can no longer receive damage from an equivalent-level source.
(Usage: Thrice.
Duration: Thirty seconds
Cooldown: One minute
Range: localized
Weaknesses: Can miss, debuff moves (i.e. Hyacinth)

Super Senshi Attack:
"Canes Venatici Constellation Power, Make-Up!"
"Freeze!" (Debuff / Attack) - Canes cracks her whip and declares Freeze! The target of her debuff, usually an enemy, suddenly finds that all of their attacks are utterly useless. If they are a knight, their weapon is figuratively a pool noodle, doing no damage upon contact.
(Usage: Thrice.
Duration: One minute
Cooldown: One minute & a half
Range: localized
Weaknesses: Can miss, buff moves

Eternal Senshi Attack:
"Canes Venatici Crystal, Make-Up!"
"Lockdown!" (Debuff / Attack) - Canes cracks her whip against the ground, yelling out Lockdown! And, indeed, everything locks. Any attempt to use an attack within the sphere around her will utterly fail. As for knight weapons, they are suddenly ineffective, essentially becoming the equivalent of pool noodles when they hit--figuratively, naturally.
(Usage: Thrice.
Duration: One minute.
Cooldown: Two minutes.
Range: About a twenty foot radius around Canes.
Weaknesses: If you're standing outside of the radius, you can attack those within!

Raina demands this nonsense stop.

[ Maternal Side of the Family ]
[ Paternal Side of the Family ]

Name: Lorna McLaughlin-Araya
Age: Forty
Birthday: September 29th, 1978
Zodiac Sign: Libra

Personality: Lorna acts as the sort of balancing force to Baldomero's continuous go go go personality. In comparison, Lorna is very calm and affectionate, offering help to anyone who needs it. It seems that Raina probably learned some of her compassion and empathy from watching her mother, even if Raina didn't pick up the part where being nice isn't just when things are going her way. Lorna currently works as a nurse in Celeste Memorial.

Name: Baldomero Ignacio Araya
Age: Forty-three
Birthday: May 2nd, 1975
Zodiac Sign: Taurus

Personality: Baldomero never stops. Ever. He's a bit bull-headed in the sense that he will knock over almost everything in his way. An ambitious first-generation immigrant, Baldomero knows he had to work for everything he's gotten and refuses to stop working to gain even more. Unfortunately for everyone else, he expects this same level of ambition and dedication out of everyone else around him. Unlike his behavior towards his eldest child, Baldomero seems to have a soft spot for Raina. She can make that soft spot even softer every time she threatens to cry...

Name: Ignacio Cesar Araya
Age: Twenty
Birthday: June 3rd, 1999
Zodiac Sign Gemini

Personality: Eldest child Ignacio Araya is a bit of an interesting case himself. Like Raina's father Baldomero, he doesn't seem to know how to slow down. Constantly moving, constantly changing, and constantly shifting, Ignacio is inconsistent. Yet, Raina has learned that he is reliable in circumstances involving her, he'll always protect her, and he'll always be available to hang out with her no matter what. Big brother is also a very quick thinker, so Raina will commonly go to him for help.

Raina would like to remind everyone that she is, in fact, trilingual. She knows the language of her father's homeland, a proper Spaniard's Spanish, the language of her older sister Melody, Vietnamese, and English. Because they're IN AMERICA.

PostPosted: Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:01 pm

Raina might have a childish crush on Captain America. He's awesome and stuff, though! She means, he dons a cape of AMERICA and then flies off to save AMERICA from the bad guys who wish to take away their democracy, and that's just wrong. Plus, he's the ultimate American Hero. Just don't tell her that "American Hero," is a phrase that refers to people who are actually real and not superheroes, or she'll start crying.

Sometimes, people have wondered why Raina doesn't get a haircut. That's an awful lot of hair on her neck, especially when she dances. Plus, that much hair has to get at least a little heavy! But Raina disagrees. She would also remind people that it's fun to watch her long hair blow in the breeze. She would tell you to try it, but you don't have long enough hair.

Raina likes to count the number of a's in her name. Raina Amada Araya. That's eight. That means her name's grade is an A+++++++. That's way higher than her brother's!

Raina's dream car is the car she always goes for when playing her favorite racing games: the Lamborghini Murcielago. Perhaps it is a little on the older side at this point, but nothing looks more cool than a car that's close to the ground zipping along the highway at speeds of 200mph while whizzing by those that would think themselves in fast cars. Porsche? Fast? Please!

PostPosted: Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:11 pm

Being one of the day students at St. Michael's can sometimes make Raina a little sad. She thinks it would be so cool to be able to stay on a permanent sleepover with all of her school friends! That's what dorming is, right? She would bring in a television, and they could watch scary movies without parent supervision from night until morning.

...Perhaps she makes dorm life a lot better than it is.
