This topic is for daily devotions or scriptures, or faithful quotes of the day. (No horoscopes, because horoscopes promote false teachings, and pagan history). We will have nothing that is false God's in this Guild. Also, do not move this topic. This topic will remain a sticky.

I am a sinner... "1 John 1:8"

I just want to say i was looking online just now at some devotions as well as thinking about finding one to post to the guild(s) I'm in. And then I come away from that and find this post... I guess God is beckoning me to devote more time to his word.

(heading offline to read more of his word!)

... Saved by God's grace "Acts 15:11"

Toxic Look-Alikes

Read Acts 8:9-23

"Your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness." -Acts 8:21-22

Our yard makes poison ivy happy. I learned this the hard way. Even though I was being careful, I came in contact with the plant and ended up with a nasty, itchy rash.
Poison ivy looks like many harmless plants, and it keeps company with some beautiful ones. One gardener couldn't figure out why she got poison ivy whenever she pruned her roses. She later discovered that a poison ivy vine was taking advantage of the tender loving care she gave to her rosebush.
Some people are like toxic plants. They look harmless, and they blend in with people who, like roses, are fragrant and beautiful.
Simone the sorcerer fit this discription. He followed Philip and was baptized, but then he asked to buy the ability to lay hands on people so they could receive the Holy Spirit. Peter was appalled at his request and urged him to repent (Acts 8:22)
Sometimes people use the favorable environment of a healthy church as a network for selfish purposes. Like poison ivy among roses, they cause much misery. Like Simone, anyone who does this needs to repent, and everyone else needs to avoid contact with such a person. Spiritual look-alikes appear good but their fruit is toxic.

A Prayer:

Help me, Lord, to be discerning and not let others lead astray with their falsehood. May the fruit of my life be an example of a follower of Christ. Amen~

Quote - "A false life belies a true faith."

The Holy Bible: King James Version. 2000.

The First Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the
Corinthians
1

Salutation
1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sos'thenes our brother,
2 ¶ Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, Acts 18.1 to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
3 ¶ Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving for Spiritual Gifts
4 ¶ I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
5 that in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
7 so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
8 who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Divisions in the Church
10 ¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chlo'e, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apol'los; Acts 18.24 and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus Acts 18.8 and Gai'us; Acts 19.29 · Rom. 16.23
15 lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
16 And I baptized also the household of Steph'anas: 1 Cor. 16.15 besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Christ the Power and Wisdom of God
18 ¶ For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God.
19 For it is written,

I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Is. 29.14
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? Is. 44.25
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 ¶ For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 that no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. Jer. 9.24

The First Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the
Corinthians
2

Proclaiming Christ Crucified
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. Acts 18.9
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

The Revelation by God's Spirit
6 ¶ Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory;
8 which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written,

Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Is. 64.4
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 ¶ But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? Is. 40.13 But we have the mind of Christ.

40Then two men
will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be
grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do
not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the
master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he ...would
have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
(Matthew 24:40-43)
But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the
thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be
broken into.(Matthew 24:43) This is why the bible tells us to watch because he truely is coming like a thief in the night.

I'm currently looking for my daily prayer book, for this month. I have no idea where anything is, because everything was moved when things were cleaned up here. I will re-edit this post when I find it. D; Ok. I am re-editing this post. I could not find my daily/monthly devotion booklet. I usually get them at church, and I find that they are so useful. They lift my spirit up so much. I have my Bedside Prayer book that someone gave me as a gift a few years ago. I have November 23rd.

Periodically, we will find ourselves at a loss to know what to do or how to respond. It's then we ask for help, and God delivers more that intelligence and ideas and good old common sense. He dips into His well of wisdom and allows us to drink from His bucket, whose refreshment provides abilities and insights that are another world. Perhaps it might best be stated as having a small portion of "the mind of Christ."

"If any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God, who gives to all generously." - James 1:5, NASB

__________________________

— Ephesians 6:10-14 —
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place...

As Christians, we should walk closely with Jesus. Satan desires to lure us into destructive actions that rob us of God's plan for a good, full life. Stay connected to the Savior; read the Word, pray, and fellowship with other believers. These are weapons we use against the Devil in spiritual war.
