A swamp is always wet; water hangs at the edges of every plant, and crawls along the earth to collect in pools, bestowing so much life that it's hard to walk without stepping on some form of life along your path. It seeps into the dirt, stirring mud a dark brown, seeping into bark a deep mossy-soot; the trees and vines keep a canopy between the sun and the swamp, the dark green of leaves adding to a serene heavy sort of feeling.
In the mornings, though, dew collects along leafy edges and glimmers in the slanted sun in a refreshing way that makes everything seem clearer. Sun creeps through branches and reflects off wet surfaces, shining into the corners of vegetation that normally live in shadow and illuminating the world, bringing everything to life, even if only for a few moments as the sun climbs higher in the sky. This, this is Dew Drop Sun's favorite time of day -- as her name may suggest. The air doesn't hang so heavily around her shoulders as she takes her waking breaths. This is not to say that she doesn't like the swamp at other times -- she loves her home dearly -- but she loves the feel of fresh morning air in her lungs; and perhaps this is why she also loves to run, the sharp draw of breath feeling almost as fresh as the morning air.
On this morning, she'd combined her two loves, finding space with firm enough earth to run in bursts, with no particular destination. When her legs finally grew tired beneath her, she let herself wander slowly, eventually finding herself heading for the heart of the swamp. Branches crawled along and across each other, leaves falling in comfortable swatches against the sun, shading the creatures below until a stray stream of silvery light crept through to briefly catch a swatch of blue or a patch of fluff and fur. Dew Drop Sun stepped carefully around the roots under her feet and ducked under a low-hanging vine in her path.
The cream's legs had been tired for some time as it was, but she finally felt the need to truly rest them. Finding a generally clear patch of ground with a stream of sunlight larger than usual for a place so deep in the swamp that she could lay beneath, the sun falling along the white zigzag across her ribs. She expelled a heavy breath as she settled and watched some water stirring several feet away.

Amber Sunset chewed softly on her sister's tail as she trailed after the slightly older filly. She held on so as not to get lost, and she usually found herself chewing on the sky blue fur in her mouth.
Every now and then she'd headbutt her sister's hind leg when she slowed down enough for Amber Sunset to reach it properly.
Garnet Whirlwind frowned, ignoring the wet mouth wrapped around her tail and chewing rather unpleasantly on the fur. As much as she cared for her sister, she could not deny she longed for the day the two would part, wanting to be able to explore freely without having to watch over her sister.
But while she was here, she wanted to take care of her, and that's why, despite the bump to her rear end from the little sunset, she refused to move forward.
"Why do you not walk, Spiral?" Amber Sunset questioned softly after spitting the tail out. She used the nickname she had chosen herself for her big sister; She insisted it suited her, not only because of her name but because of her markings- that didn't really spiral at all.
Amber Sunset peered around her older sister as best she could, glowing blue eyes seeking out the cause of Spiral's hesitation. She peered back and forth, scanning the spot of water not terribly far in the distance and spotting nothing.
"I see nothing." she pouted, taking a step forward and attempting to walk past her sister.
"Eventide, stop!" Garnet Whirlwind shouted, louder than she had intended. But though she longed to be alone, the plum coloured doe was fiercely protective of her smaller sister. She stepped in front of the smaller filly, pushing her body back.
There was another Kimeti there, and Garnet Whirlwind had long since learned to be weary. She had wanted to just move along, but was certain that her cry had drawn its attention. So instead she flicked her tail at her sister, a silent request for her to grab on, and took a few intrepid steps towards the stirring water and the doe on the other side of it.

In the still of the swamp, it wasn't hard to hear someone approaching, if you were listening for it. The slightly stirring water had the doe's attention, but it only took so much to watch a quietly moving bit of water; at the sound of a slight shuffle of underbrush, her ears jumped only slightly, though her eyes continued to watch the current. She didn't worry much, though she was alerted now, and it only took a moment to be sure that someone else had approached as a small voice called out just to the side of her.
As the call reached her ears, Dew Drop Sun turned her visual attention in that direction as well. It took a second for her eyes to catch sight of what had approached, but the light color of the second filly stood out, leading to the sister (Dew assumed) before her. They were weary, the cream doe could feel it, and she couldn't exactly blame them; as it was, younglings were wise to be weary. It took a moment, but the darker of the two finally took a few steps forward, the other following with a connection to her tail, closer to Dew Drop Sun and the water that stood between them.
"Hello." Dew Drop Sun decided that, as they seemed to have less intention to move past, perhaps she should try to put them at ease. She would never mean to startle the poor things, and as long as they perhaps wanted to linger, she'd rather they feel safe. Her voice was sweet as it was, but as she spoke to the little ones she was trying a bit more than usual to assure them of her good nature.
"Charming day for a bit of a walk." Her tail flicked at her side, padding at the ground as it fell beside her back hooves. She dipped her head slightly in a sort of encouragement for them to step closer if they wished.
"You may join me if you wish -- I'm just resting after a long walk myself."

Spiral cocked her head to the side, glowing blue eyes focused intently on the doe resting near the water.
"We..." she shook her head, trying to tug her sister along with her, "We have no reason to linger here. Come on, Eventide." she whispered. Though it wasn't her intention- and it really never, ever was her intention- her voice was cold, sharp, as if she were eternally unhappy. She tried to move along, to turn away from the sandy doe but her sister refused to move. She opened her mouth to say more but stopped when Amber Sunset dropped her tail, offering a confused look.
Amber Sunset looked down to the ground, shyly fidgeting back and forth between her left and right legs. "Actually, Spiral..." she began, "I am really thirsty. My legs are very tired."
Amber Sunset's voice was an extreme contrast to Spiral's, it was soft, airy, almost whiny but that could be due to exactly what she was saying. She met her eyes- the same eyes as her sister- and the glowing blue orbs stared at each other for a heartbeat before one looked away.
"Fine." Spiral choked out. Though she was sure her sister wasn't being entirely truthful, she decided it was best to simply stay rather than to cause an argument in front of this doe they knew nothing about.
The doe that Spiral was trying so hard to ignore.
Amber Sunset, on the other hand, was a social little thing, and try as Spiral might to convince her to steer clear, the golden-pink filly was always drawn to other Kimeti.
The only problem was that Amber Sunset tended to be far too trusting, and Spiral was not always going to be around to help her.
"Hello there." Amber Sunset called across the little stream of water. She moved closer to it, ignoring her big sister's tailgating.
She had little to say, she always had little to say, but she liked to say what she could when she could say it. If she knew what she wanted to say. It was really all very difficult for Amber Sunset, not having anybody but her sister to speak with, but she could make do. She might not have been as smart as Spiral, but she certainly had enough heart to make up for it.
Amber Sunset trotted up to the water and dipped her head down, eyes crossing when she tried too hard to focus on the water before her and accidentally dipped her nose into it.
Sputtering, she pulled her face out and shook her head from side to side, trying to rid herself of the excess water.
"Oh." she was embarrassed and her sister was simply standing to the side, observing instead of making any moves to assist.

As the darker of the two fillies stared her down, seeming to weigh her options, Dew Drop Sun tilted her head and smiled at the two. The seeming leader of the two was probably not going to let her guard down easily -- if at all. As far as she knew, however, there was not much that Sunny could do to convince her that the creamy doe posed no danger; she couldn't make any promises for the swamp at large, at all. Still, she felt bad; the little girl seemed so far away, continually wary.
The blue declined Sun's offer to join her, and the doe bowed her head, accepting; she hadn't expected company in the first place, it wouldn't be so bad to continue to entertain herself for a time until her legs felt up to letting her wander again. She looked at them again, expecting to see them moving -- but, they hadn't. The darker filly seemed to try to move once more, looking back at her sister when she refused to join in moving her legs, and Dew Drop Sun's ears perked as she watched the two. The light dropped her sister's tail from her mouth, and she looked down, clearly a bit uncomfortable speaking up against her sister's wishes, possibly anyone's wishes.
Dew Drop Sun couldn't help but smile, the littles resolving to stay for some time. The lighter of the two called to her, and Dew raised her head, calling back, "Hello!" She watched the filly approach the water, her sister watching her with wary eyes and pointedly not looking at the doe opposite them. She still couldn't blame the young female, but wished she could think of some way to put her at ease.
As the little one dipped her nose into the water, Dew Drop couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Careful there. It would be unfortunate to lose you after just making your acquaintance." She shifted, rolling from one side to the other and adjusting her position so that she could still face the other two, her tail flicking water over herself and lightly at the others as well as it briefly landed in the water before she readjusted it to sit closer to her legs.
"Sorry," she apologized for water passing their way of the incident, though she didn't know if it had actually hit either of them. She sighed and stretched a bit, smiling at the two smaller. "Have you been out and about long today? Do you have a particular destination?"
