All day, Downpour had been running back and forth across her patch of the swamp, near her home. She looked a little insane, doubling back and returning. Really, she was playing an imaginary game of tag, because she was that bored. When she tired of the tag, she wouldn't even pause; she'd just keep running, faster and further and harder, as if she was trying to escape someone chasing her. The feeling was thrilling. It would stop when she ran out of breath, or into a dead end, and started to laugh as hard as she could, spinning around on her hooves to make sure nobody was really behind her. Even though she knew there wasn't anyone, sometimes her heart still skipped a beat, as though she expected someone to be there. She worked herself up into such a frenzy, expecting that to be the truth.
It wasn't that Downpour had no friends, it was that she tended to find them boring, which was a distinct problem. She didn't have a particular kind of friend in mind, but rather that she wanted friends who were something extreme. Didn't really matter what. Downpour was very flexible as far as morals went. She could have "boring" friends for a while, but she found herself hanging out with them less and less, and finally, she preferred her own imagination. Like now, bounding from one end of her regular haunt to the other, screaming with laughter. Yes, it was probably not the best way to remain safe, but Downpour wasn't exactly someone who was fun to clash against.
Near dusk, she was beginning to tire, which was making her clumsy. She had, of course, rested a few times during the day, napping by a mossy bank. Finally, boredom taking hold, she was running, running, saw a white bird and, distracted, smacked straight into something rather solid and fell over. A tree? It felt kind of warm. What on earth had she hit. She was a little dizzy...

He looked then stared. Incredulity abounded. Not only did it take her hours to notice him, but when she finally did it was because she ran into him. He was pretty sure this doe's sense of self-preservation was tucked somewhere deep under her imagination and free flowing laughter.
So this must be what Doom would have turned into if they didn't have each other and Look-see. Look-see was a colt going on 40 seasons but Doom had the vivacity of a newborn while Gloom himself was the mellow stalking fellow.
He playfully nipped her in the ear. He planned on it smarting more but the mental game the other doe was playing reminded him of the free Doom. He left the girls to their own delights when the hot phases of the cycle began. Those two did not handle heat well and he took this time to reflect on his self. Utter bullshit. He had a huge complex. He knew it.
He nudged the other doe to get off of him.

Downpour realized she probably should have been paying more attention. When she was nipped in the ear, she leaped up with a giggle. It probably should have made her yelp, but the idea of being bitten just amused her to no end, and the pain wasn't really that bad. It did sting a little, and she rubbed her head against her shoulder. "Do you always n** strangers!?" Downpour finally said, tilting her head sideways to regard the buck. "Sorry I ran into you, though! I was busy playing. I didn't realize you were here... How long were you there, anyway? I'm Downpour, nice to meet you!"
Downpour's excitement at seeing someone she had never met before overwhelmed her. Even when she willed herself to stop chattering, she couldn't help but stand there, her breathing quick, chest heaving. She was still calming down from her bump and being startled at finding the buck there, being nipped at.

Sooo many questions. Even after she jumped in surprise, she was still leaning on him. He looked around. Quite a few unsavory predators out there. How this doe managed to be unharmed was a miracle in itself. Flicking his ears back, he patted her rump with his tail emphatically. He didn't mind the weight. It just wasn't a habit she should continue. Personal space was probably a foreign concept to this doe. Her nature was so contrary to his instinct that he caught himself emulating that old maid Look-See. Geeze. He caught himself before unleashing a tired sigh. This doe had vivacity and spunk in spades. Shaking off that mother-hen attitude, he switched gears.
"Downpour, you look really tasty" He smiled ear to ear and bucked the trend by ending his seduction prematurely early. Better to leave her wanting and interested, he pounced on the nearest shadow and slipped away. Until next time.
