Today there was climbing, and lots of it. Death Walking was not usually a climber, but today it had striken her fancy to take a stab at clambering up some of the larger mangrove trees. Now, she knew that it may not be the best idea she had ever had, but she was feeling impulsive and figured that if she had the urge, she should try it, at least once. What's the worst that could happen, anyway?
Well...
The first little while was alright, she walked sure-footedly and kept her eyes on the roots underfoot, but it couldn't have stayed so perfect. The first time, it was just for a few seconds, when her eyesight gave out, that is. Everything went black, and then slowly faded back into color, and then into focus. So she kept going, hoping for the best. It had only been a short spell, after all!
The second time was not nearly as fortunate. Her vision blacked out without warning, and with one hoof floating mid-air, she had to put it down to stay stable. Bad move. It never connected with ground, and instead slid along the edge and plunged into the air just beyond it. Her momentum didn't help, and in fact it pulled her forwards and into what felt like a void to her. And so she fell.
Eyes open or shut didn't make a difference to the temporarily blind doe, but she knew one thing about falling: prepare for impact. So she did, but found she needn't have worried too much. She had landed in water. Shallow, so probably a pond, but without vision, she thought it best to wait before trying to get up and keep moving.
((Supposed to be her landing in Fish Bones' pond))

Fortunately for Fish Bones, he'd vacated the spot the green doe fell into. Unfortunately for him, he had not been fully out of the way, her hoof connecting with his rump as she fell. It's not all that bad, at least compared to how bad it could have been. Just what feels like a bruised muscle and scuffed up fur. Owed to the fact that he started to turn when he first felt her hoof contact his skin. That turn, now complete, leaves him looking down Death Walking, and wondering where she'd come from. "Are you alright?" Fish Bones asks, stepping closer to her. Through the water, he sees patches of red against her green coat, though he can not tel if it is blood or just a different coloration of her fur.

She opened her eyes, but there was still no sight for her to see. Still, it was just darkness before her eyes. But as she had fallen, she felt her hoof connect and wondered what it had hit, but she didn't have to wonder for long. A voice spoke, one that was soft and low: a male's. Her ears perked forwards and she tilted her head a little. He wasn't far away, and he sounded alright, but just to make sure... "Yes... well, I'm alive, that is. Can't see, sore, but quite alive. Are... you alright though? Didn't hit anything too vital, I hope?" A slight grin appeared at the edges of her lips.
She stretched a leg out, feeling in front of her. More water, as she had thought. "Did I land in a pond? Or a puddle? The water doesn't have a strong enough current to be a stream, but it's rather deep for a puddle..." Death Walking reasoned, as the water covered her entire back legs and about half of her rump, the way she sat.

"I'm fine, may have a bruised rump for a bit, but no biggie." he steps closer to her, not sure how to help her up. Or, even, if she'd want help. "Yes, you landed in my pond. How did you manage that? And why can't you see?" stupid question, that last, but it fell from his lips before he could stop it. "I'm Fish Bones, by the way."

"Well that's good. Wouldn't want to injure you in my fall." Her head tilted to the other side and her ears swiveled back and forth to their surroundings. It sounded calm enough all around, but she wished her sight would come back sooner. It needn't take to long! Really!
"Ah yes, well I am Death Walking, nice to meet you Fish Bones." Her eyes were open at this point, but there was still not a droplet of color that she could see. Blind as a bat. "I was walking along the mangrove roots, to nowhere in particular, but then one of my spells took over and I stumbled and fell. I go blind every once in a while, you see. I don't quite know why, but it probably has something to do with my constant dizzy-ness and blood loss. My cuts tend to stay open longer than most, so as you can probably see, I've always got at least one cut or slash."

He watches her, wondering what would cause such symptoms. "Nice to meet you, as well. You okay here? I mean, I could help you to a drier spot?" he asks, uncertain what to say. He'd never met another who was blind only part time.

She perked her ears a little to listen to the buck a little better, but thought that it would probably be best if she did get out of his pond and out onto drier land. "Yes, that would be much appreciated, Fish Bones. If you could perhaps come stand next to me and slowly walk towards the shallowest place for me to emerge? And let me know when to step high, if you have a series of rocks around your pond..." The pale doe stood up, rather unsteadily, to get ready to be lead out of the pond.

Oh, this he hadn't considered. "Actually, the whole pond is a high step.. It's not natural, the edges were built up so it would be a pond, and not a clearing." He looks about, searching for an easier way out. "Hmm, some logs should make a nice step. I'll be right back." Quickly he wades through the water, climbing up out of the pond. He knows just where to go, and it's not far. A pile of stones and logs, left over from building - and never moved, even after all this time - is in jumping distance of the pond.
A few well placed kicks, and a log is at the edge, waiting to be tipped in. Which it is, Fish Bones nudging it with a hoof, splashing as it lands. Then he's in too, adjusting the wood before putting his full weight on it to lodge it in the mud and rocks. "There we are." he says, walking over to her. Turning, Fish Bones steps closer to Death Walking, so their skin is just touching. "This way, a slight turn to your left." gently he pushes against the doe, stopping after she's stepped over. "Now, forward, about six steps. No, wait, six small steps. Almost forgot, I've longer legs."

Death Walking waited patiently while the buck went off to find a log... or something... When he came back, she waited until their sides were touching and followed his gentle guidance. Six small steps... she repeated to herself mentally, and began counting as she progressed towards the outside. "One... two... three..." she murmured softly with each carefully placed step. "Four.... five... six!" She stopped there patiently, not sure what came next.

"Now there's two steps.." He trails off again finding himself dealing with longer legs. He stays quiet a bit, thinking. "I guess, just lift your leg and I'll tell you when it's high enough to fit on the first step."

"Alright." She said softly as she began to lift one leg very slowly, ears perked up and waiting to hear an indication of when to stop.
She wished this didn't happen to her so often. The blindness, that is. It really was rather inconvenient.

Fish Bones watches the doe lift her leg, waiting for the right moment. "Right there. Now, bring your hoof forward just a bit, and step down. The next step up is about the same as this one is." Even with instruction, Fish Bones keeps close to Death Walking, to give her a solid place to lean, in case his instruction leads to a miss step.

"Mhmm..." Calmly, she follows the instructions, stepping once, stepping twice, and then finally making it out of the pond. She stays close to Fish Bones, more for a reference than for support, but she wasn't sure if she was going to feel weak again, so instead of chancing it, she stayed close.
Once out on land, she flicked her tail a few times, drying it, and then began turning her ears around to listen to the wildlife around them "Thank you, Fish Bones. This happens too often, but... most are not as kind or as understanding." She offers a smile, and tries blinking a few times, but still nothing to be seen.

He's careful not to tangle their hooves as he comes up with her. Tripping is bad enough when your eyes are working, he couldn't imagine falling blind. "Why shouldn't others be understanding? It's not like you chose to have these spells. Anyway, if you'd like to rest here, your welcome too. The soil is pretty soft, softer still where there's grass or other smalish plants." He looks around, wondering what else to offer a visitor. Aha! Yes, that would be very good. "Are you hungry? Theres fruit, and maybe some bird's eggs too, if you'd like?"

She smiled kindly at his words, so nice and warm that they are. Death Walking is not used to such things, in fact she's grown up by herself, pacing the Swamp solo, with nothing but the trees to talk to and the birds to listen to.
She sits down upon the soft soil, and then comfortably folds her front legs under to lie down. "Yes, well... It seems that simple to me, also." She nods lightly in thanks, and in reply, "I would love something to eat, Fish Bones, thank you." She continued to blink, and it seemed like her vision was playing games, as a few dots of white would appear here and there and then sink back into the darkness, teasing her.
