Today was a beautiful day, full of sunshine and bright blue skies. At least, this is how Life-Pulse had seen the day start. That was what it looked like to her when she first came across that spider. Since then... it may have started to darken just a little... but this doe was much too entranced by the spider to notice. She had spotted it darting across a bare spot on the ground, all eight limbs scurrying as fast as they could. Where was it going? she asked herself in her mind, and now she had to know. That was how this began.
She hunkered down to the ground, crawling along behind the arachnid, nose to the ground, eyes level with the creature. It ran, but all she had to do was keep up a leisurely pace to stay just behind it. She wanted to know where it was going, and so she went.
She followed the hairy little bug into a large expanse of long grasses. Now, the way she was following it, her front half was down along the ground, but her rump was higher up, sticking out of the grasses with her tail flicking back and forth to match her steps. That was all she could afford to twitch without scaring the bug off its course. This intense game of follow-the-leader led her up to a tree trunk that sprouted up in the middle of these grasses, half-hidden. In the middle of this old trunk grew a tiny little sapling that stretched towards the sky, and that was where the spider crawled now. It made it's way up the spindly new tree and began jumping from one tiny branch to the next. Even such a tiny feat could entrance Life-Pulse, so she watched, patiently and quietly as the spider set about to making it's web.

Shadowed Moon had awoken to a face full of sun when day had approached his hill. Facing towards the ground he stood up and stretched, glancing every now and then at the cloudless sky to try and adjust to the sudden brightness. Looking over the almost glowing swamp that rested below him he contemplated where to go today. Since it was such a nice day, it was easier to appreciate the sun when it wasn't blinding him, Shadowed Moon decided he would head somewhere away from the trees.
Yawning, Shadowed Moon headed down the hill away from the swamp. Walking through the trees he noticed the amount of trees was slowly decreasing, it seemed he had picked the right direction to travel after all. Continuing his walk Shadowed Moon found himself in a sunlight grassy field. As he made his way through the tall grass he almost stumbled over a partially hidden log. Laughing at himself he noticed a small sapling was growing out of the old tree, walking around the log he found part of his legs covered in shadow.
Pawing at the ground Shadowed Moon slowly settled down in the shadow created by the trunk. It was nice to have a rest from the intense heat of the day. Shadowed Moon usually enjoyed cool weather in general and found the break from the heat refreshing. Just as he had began to doze the sky began to darken as clouds began to form over head. He wouldn't have noticed since he was already in shadow but it did get colder. Glancing over the log at the trees he didn't feel any need to return to their shelter just yet so he lay his head down once more and continued to doze.
As the day wore on he heard a rustling in the grass that awoke him from his light sleep. Glancing up he saw a doe approaching, she seemed to be following something that he couldn't see from where he was. As she approached he saw a spider climb up onto the sapling. It seemed that was what she had been following since she stopped to watch it as the spider began to weave it's web. Watching for a moment as the spider began it's work his eyes drifted to the doe. She had an interesting blue glow in her eyes that extended in swirling lines down part of her neck. He wasn't sure if she had noticed him yet so he decided he would say something, since it seemed rude not to announce his presence. "I wonder if the spider will finish his web before the rain starts."

So caught up in the little spider's movements, Life-Pulse didn't notice the buck before her until her spoke. He had a kind voice and spoke of rain... Wait! Rain?! This one word echoed through her mind as she looked up to the sky to see if this was possible. And it was. There were dark clouds forming up above, taking over the bright blue sky, slowly but surely. She would not have noticed the weather changing either, atleast not until droplets would have poured down and soaked her fur in their wetness.
She looked back down at the buck in front of her with her head tilted to one side. He had dark eyes, that she looked into now, but a light blue coat with gray throughout, not unlike the sky above them, she thought. Realizing she had not yet said anything in return, her gaze dropped a moment and came right back upto his eyes. Her ears twitched left and right as she spoke in a somewhat melodic voice, "I'm sure such a persistent little creature wouldn't stop it's art in something as natural and inevitable as rain. But maybe it would be better for him to finish before it started..." She lowered her muzzle down level to the spider as it scurried to get his web along. Her soft breathing swayed his shiny threads, so she pulled her muzzle back up to face the male that had spoken to her. An introduction was due.
"My name is Life-Pulse. What should I call you?" Her head tilted once more, to the other side this time. Her glowing blue eyes blinked slowly, each time dulling the glow that was her gaze. Perhaps even a slight smile tugged at the side of her lips, but even she couldn't be sure.

Shadowed Moon smiled as the doe glanced up at the sky, it seemed she hadn't realized the drastic change in weather. The doe had a very interesting coat made up of varying shades of brown. As his eyes drifted up to hers and then down the glowing spirals it reminded him of a stream as it brought life back into the land surrounding it.
When the doe looked back at him it seemed she was staring into his eyes and he returned her gaze, a slight smile still left on his face. The doe glanced away for a moment before looking back into his eyes and he couldn't help but smile wider. As her ears twitched back and forth she spoke, she had a rather nice voice, it was almost like a song. Nodding in agreement his eyes followed hers down to the spider, watching as the doe's breath moved the silken strands.
When the doe pulled away his eyes once again found hers as she looked back at him. He couldn't help but smile to himself as she told him her name, Life-Pulse. It seemed his mind had already jumped to a similar idea just from looking at her. "My name is Shadowed Moon." He smiled widely at her and tilted his head to match hers, watching as the glow in her eyes dull and then brighten with each blink. "Your name fits you well Life-Pulse."

Life-Pulse couldn't help but smile back at the buck's words. Others have mentioned the same to her before, and she never had a single word of argument. Her name was something that she had mulled over many-a-night. She could hear the pulses all around her, the heart-beats of the trees, the padding feet of little creatures running about, it was all a song to her. In her eyes, everything pulsed and danced. In her ears, everything sang along into one big melody that sounded in her mind and under her skin. But this was something hardly anyone understood. No one she knew could hear this wondrous harmony that she could.
"I've been told." She said, with a wide smile playing across her lips. "Shadowed Moon..." She whispered his name softly, tasting it, rolling it around her mouth. This was another thing that she considered important, as she was sure, did most kimeti: names. She left the spider for a moment, and took a few steps around the trunk to get a better look at this new swampgoat. He had darker markings on his side that almost looked like tendrils stretching out to become a wing. His name didn't fit his coat, she would say, but there was more than colors that could define a being.
Just as she opened her mouth to speak again, a droplet of rain fell onto her nose and caused her to sneeze. Her eyes shut tightly as she shook her head clear of the resonating echoes in her mind, even her tail stopped swishing. More little droplets fell from the sky, light, for now at least.

Shadowed Moon smiled widely at her comment, it made sense she would have been told that before. He found himself glancing back at his own coat, wondering if his name fitted his as well. He had inherited the wing markings his mother had borne but had inherited his white-blue color from his father. The top of his head and neck and well as his stomach was colored a light gray which his hooves shared, he knew the color of his head from seeing his reflection in the water, and these spots of color broke the whiteness of his fur off in several places.
As the doe said his name out loud he was quickly pulled from his thoughts, it seemed she was testing his name out. It sounded nice when she said it with her melodic voice. As Life-Pulse stepped away from the spider and around the log he watched as she examined his fur and he wondered if she was examining his wing markings as well. It was the wings that seemed to throw his name off target, not that he had thought about it before.
It seemed the doe was about to speak so Shadowed Moon shifted his attention to her once more. Before she could say anything however a light drizzle started, the first drop making its landing on her nose and Life-Pulse sneezed. As the rain continued to lightly drop from the sky Shadowed Moon shook his head to clear the drops that were trying to fall into his eyes. "You want to head to the trees before it gets worse? It might be a bit more comfortable there."

She jumped at the buck's words, already having forgotten that he was there. She looked back at him, catching his dark eyes and smiled before she cheerily replied, "That sounds lovely! Though..." Her brow furrowed for a second as she remembered the spider. She turned to look at the little bug and saw that his web was nearly done. "That was mighty quick, Little One." She whispered at the spider before she turned back around to face Shadowed Moon again.
Now that she was ready to go, having made sure the spider would be ok, she said, "Let's go!" and began walking towards the trees. The droplets began growing in size and fell more and more frequently even as they made their way towards the treeline. Every time a drop would hit her coat, it would twitch in response, breaking the rhythm that her hooves were playing on the softening ground. She couldn't keep a steady beat of her own in this symphony of rain, so she quickly took up imitating the sound of the rain itself. Little clicks and hums escaped the doe as they reached the trees and cover from the wetness. Once there, she shook off and then turned to look at her new friend.

Shadowed Moon smiled at her in return as she looked back at him, and found himself smiling even wider at her concern for the spider. Glancing down at the web as well he noticed the spider was almost finished in it's task and finished spider webs tended to survive rain, even without the cover of trees. As Life-Pulse looked at Shadowed Moon again he caught her eyes and gave her a warm smile before following her towards the trees.
As the rain began to fall thicker and harder he found himself glancing at the wing marking on his coat. The rain was making it look smudged, since it was pushing his fur in the wrong direction. Glancing back at the doe wondering if the rain was affecting her coat similarly he noticed she was beginning to mimic the rain in it's rhythm. She seemed to be rather good at finding the rhythm of things.
As they entered the cover of the trees he was soon bombarded by the droplets she shook of her coat, making his fur look even worse then it had before. As she turned around to glance at him he laughed softly and shook himself off, sending the droplets on his own fur flying. His eyes once again finding hers he smiled. "You're very good at that." He paused, realizing she may not know what he was talking about he grinned sheepishly. "The rhyming thing."

The shake, in addition to the rain had fluffed her fur up and pushed it in all sorts of directions, moulding her concise markings into big blotches of dark brown upon her golden-tan base, the only thing that stayed constant, was her glowing eyes, for even the glowy bits down her neck had migrated and took on new shapes, and if what she felt was a light breeze, they might even be dancing in it: waving back and forth in the wind's cradling grasp.
When he shook off, she shut her eyes tightly, dimming everything around them for a moment before she opened them again to bask their surroundings in the bright blue light of her eye-glow. This glowing gaze made its way along Shadowed Moon's coat when he spoke. "Oh... I've never really thought about it... It just comes to me, like the song all around us in Mother Swamp." As she spoke, she took a few slow paces towards the buck, inching closer until her muzzle was close enough to his back that she could take to his coat, attempting to flatten it back down into the wing-like pattern it had earlier.

Shadowed Moon finished his shaking and noticed it seemed slightly darker. Glancing at Life-Pulse he realized she had closed her eyes. As she opened them again everything seemed to light up. His eyes finding hers he tilted his head slightly and his gaze wandered to the glowing river that ran from the gaze. He watched as the bright pattern on her coat shook. It almost seemed like it was dancing as it constantly took different shapes.
Listening to her answer Shadowed Moon thought that was interesting, he hadn't really noticed the pattern in things before. It was just there. It seemed Life-Pulse could actually hear the songs of the swamp that he had often heard of as a colt. Trying to listen he did hear the pattern of the rain but he didn't think it would sound the same to him anyway.
As Life-Pulse approached him his dark eyes traveled down her coat and he noticed how it had puffed up. As the doe began to smooth out the pattern of his wings he found himself pressing his own muzzle to her back in an attempt to smooth out the fluffy mess. Carefully he moved his nose around her spines to push her darker fur back in the right direction. He was having some trouble with getting her fur to stay down, it seemed to want to stay at it's current volume. "Your coat doesn't want to stay down." Shadowed Moon said as he continued in his attempt to flatten down her fur.

She was meticulously working on the light blue buck's fur, having gotten about half of the wing pattern back to it's original shape. The dark grey that it reflected against the light blue was really fascinating to the doe. More than once, she would pause a moment to pull back her muzzle and look at her progress. He had a lovely coat, she had to admit. Two colors that she had only ever seen together in the sky and at water's edge. She made a mental note to herself to look for more of this color combination throughout the swamp, perhaps not very hard, but as a vague interest to explore.
When Shadowed Moon spoke, she had just pulled back to admire the half-way-done wing on his back, so she glanced over her shoulder and responded softly, "Oh! That's never been very tame." A small chuckle escaped the doe and her eyes dimmed a little but they snapped right back open when she looked back up at the buck. "The dark patches are the worst. They need a thorough licking to listen. It doesn't matter though. My coat will dry soon enough." A quick smile before she turned back to working on his fur.
Life-Pulse began to hum, very softly at first and with no particular tune, just a note here that followed one there. Rather soon she began swishing her tail side to side to her little song and her licks eventually wove their way into the same pattern. A minute or two passed, and Life-Pulse's mind slowly forgot what it was really doing and began to drift. Her humming became a little louder and a hoof tapped every now and then as her song developed. At this point, she had completely forgotten that she was near anyone, or even that she was licking his fur clean and back into place! All that she knew was that this song needed to be voiced, and that the droplets of rain were beginning to sound louder and faster, almost calling out to her, telling her to add words to that song of hers, but not yet. Not just yet, it wasn't time.

Shadowed Moon was watching silently as Life-Pulse examined her work before she had turned to him and responded. Nodding as she explained about the unmanageably of her coat he returned her smile as she went back to working on smoothing out the wing pattern. He watched her work for a moment longer before returning to his task, which was now much harder then he had thought.
Leaning his head forward he gave one of the dark patches a through lick before trying to smooth it down. It didn't do much but the fact that it did something was a good sign. Continuing with renewed hope he heard Life-Pulse begin to hum. The sound wasn't that loud and didn't have any real tune but it still sounded nice. After a while she began to move in the same time as the tune she was humming.
He continued to his licking and smoothing and after a while a few of the patches around her spines were beginning to smooth out. As time had gone on Life-Pulse's humming had gotten louder and she had even began to tap her hoof too the beat. She almost seemed to be in her own little world. Shadowed Moon continued simply continued his work on her coat and couldn't help but bob his head to the beat her song was making.

Another few hoof-taps and her ears came in to accompany the bass beats, while her tail continued the faster staccato notes in her little song. The water droplets all around seemed to sing to Life-Pulse, and she felt that she had to sing right back, and had she realized she was doing so right next to another kimeti, she might not have started. But just then, she had finished flattening out the fur she had been working on, and so her humming began to turn into words and lyrics that belonged with the rest of the sounds she had strung together, at least in her own mind.
Water droplets fall, fall, fall. Down to the ground, Over us all, all, all.
Can you hear them sing? Can you hear them ring? As they pierce and sting, And pull apart this wing.
Small and round, round, round, They fall from up there, Onto the ground, ground, ground.
A nice cool shower from the sky, To pour down on us from up high. Bringing this buck and I, To attempt to dry.
They bring this blue, blue, blue, Close to me, to I. Is it a clue, clue, clue?
Eyes followed the buck's pattern absently as she sang softly. Her words wove in and out around the sounds of the rain and her hooves and the swishing of her tail.

Shadowed Moon had continued to work softly on the patch of fur as she began singing. Her song and the beats she was making were beginning to weave with the sound of the rain. Was this what it sounded like to her? If so, Life-Pulse was a very good name since the song was just that.
As the song progressed, Shadowed Moon realized that he was in it. It surprised him a bit but it did make sense, he was apart of the swamp after all, as were all Kimeti. Pulling back to examine his work most of the fur on her back had flattened. As he contemplated whether to continue she had reached the end of her song.
They bring this blue, blue, blue, Close to me, to I. Is it a clue, clue, clue?
Pausing in his thought the buck smiled to himself, he wasn't sure if Life-Pulse was paying more attention to the singing of the rain or to the words of her song back. Giving her fur a final lick he pulled back and looked at his work. Her fur was still a bit messy but his was as well, which was to be expected in this type of weather. Tilting his head he took a step back, causing the wing on his shoulder to move slightly.
"Seems I've found my way into your song." He said softly, his eyes holding a similarly soft smile. Shadowed Moon found himself looking into her glowing eyes again, and he smiled as the small pattern flowing from them moved gently in the wind.

After her song came to an end, her words turned back into humming and her head nodded along with the tune she had created. It was only when the buck spoke that she realized that she had even been singing! It just came so naturally for her and it had snuck up on her, all of those beautiful sounds combining together into a melody that just ached to have words put to it.
A little bit startled, Life-Pulse took a step back and stared at Shadowed Moon for a moment before she stumbled about some words, "Uhhhm... well.. I... I mean..." she blushed, a rosy pink tinge taking over her cheeks, "I was... singing... and... the Swamp... it just... that's what it wanted to say.... and..." she stopped there, though it was obvious that she was looking for more things to say. She thought back over what had happened and realized that she had just started singing in the middle of company! And that she had been singing.... about the buck next to her... Her head jerked back up and she shot another glance at the pale blue buck. What was she supposed to do now?!
Her eyes stole down from his eyes and found his smile instead. As if contagious, her own muzzle turned upwards in a small sheepish smile, unsure of what else to do, one of her front legs began to drag back and forth across the mud underfoot, creating little overlapping lines. She replied quietly and shyly with her head sort of tilted down, "I guess... I guess you did..."
