User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nettle had decided, in the early hours of the morning, to get something productive done. He had spent entirely too much time lately wading through the swamps and cleaning up afterward, watching the clouds and scolding the kids for being too noisy in his backyard.

So. He'd gotten up at the crack of dawn, shaken the muck out of his fur and his tail, and had started out into the swamp -- hunting dragonflies. Not hunting to eat them, or to chase them, or for the fun of the hunt, but because he wanted to know exactly how many types of dragonflies there were in this swamp.

Fortunately, he had a good memory for color, and shape, and the way their wings shifted. Just now he'd snagged one, paw delicately upon the edge of one wing, the creature fluttering frantically in search of escape while Nettle examined it...

User ImageA flash of color, right before a hard shove from his right, and Nettle was knocked down into the mud. His head snapped up to see who had dared to interrupt his studies. His glaring eyes found a garishly bright fellow looking forlornly to the sky.

"I have freed thee from oppression, little friend," he called (to the firefly? what utter nonsense), "fly away to your loved ones!" He lingered, longingly staring after it a moment longer, and began to wander away, taking no notice of the Buck he'd bowled over.

[[Sorry for the short response gonk ]]

((Gah, sorry for the LATE response; very frustrating worrisome week. PS your post was not short, it's plenty long. xDD I LIKE it short.))

Said buck was -- well, less than pleased. He was being ignored by some uppity whipper-snapper who had attacked him...why, exactly? Nettle didn't have half a clue, and honestly didn't care. He was filthy with mud to the jaw, his tail dripping, a sound rattling low in his throat...

And that was the cocky little Kimeti's only warning before he was bowled over in turn, a rough blow from his left that topped him over into the mud himself. Another moment before Nettle settled his full weight into keeping Wildflower Breeze thoroughly encased in mud.

"What," his voice was sharp, brittle, refined, "do you think you're doing?"

As he was hit from the side, Wildflower Breeze gave a startled yelp. Now pinned in the mud, he squirmed fiercely. He rather detested mud.

"I was acting as a liberator," he said, between spluttering on the mud, "freeing that poor firefly from one so cruel as to pin it so." He was trying to sound dignified, and failing miserably. Trying to straighten himself in the mud, indubitably to spout more such gibberish, he only planted his face deeper in it.

[[*hacks up a lung* not been a very healthy week on my part.]]

Helped down there, too, by a constant and firm press of Nettle's side, crushing him down into the muck and the mess. If he didn't want to be pushed into mud, then he shouldn't shove other people over. Nettle shook his head in a jerky sort of way, glaring down at the young buck.

"You were acting like a moron." Crisp, clear, and sarcastic. Totally unapologetic. Nettle awaited an apology.

"Wharghggfffff pfooo sfpppt sffffffry, plffff gepppt offfffff,", which may or may not have translated to, "Whatever you want sir, please get off," Was about all the poor fellow could manage. He squirmed, seeing as that was about all he could do.

Acknowledgment accepted. Nettle shifted, letting poor Wildflower Breeze up out of the mess. He pranced [very prancy, very delicate] several steps to the left and shook himself out, spraying mud every which way and only leaving himself slightly less...dripping.

"Honestly, the nerve." Grumbled, it was meant more for himself than for anyone else. Or perhaps meant for the world at large. "What makes people so rude in modern days..."

The now dull male shuddered and stood in time to be slapped in the face by Nettle's muddy tail. Grimacing, and spitting out a fresh mouthful of mud, Wildflower Breeze scraped his side against a nearby tree, and glared sullenly at the elder Kimeti.
"What in the swamp were you doing in the first place?" he asked bluntly. "I see no point in pinning the poor thing down."

"Studying it." Pompous and serious, spoken down his nose -- and while Nettle didn't say 'you nincompoop', the feeling was conveyed all the same. He shook his head one more time, tail swaying in a frustrated sort of way, and glanced off in the direction the dragonfly had disappeared...

[[Don't you mean firefly? razz ]]

Wildflower Breeze bowed his head to the side, and dipped his ears down abashedly. The elder Kimeti's intentions were not nearly as cruel as he has originally thought. "Perhaps I could be of some assistance, to make amends for my brash actions," He offered hopefully.

((...no, I totally meant dragonfly. xDDD Just mistyped firefly the first time. ::goes to correct.: smile )

"Well, it's getting late now..." But he did turn his head, eyes narrowed, to consider the now-apologetic buck. Nettle's mouth twitched just a little, unhappy but...grudgingly accepting. He glanced up toward the trees, and then back down. "I don't know, what did you have in mind?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 22, 2008 3:21 pm

His ears picked up a little, and he raised his head a little higher. "Well," he said, haltingly, "I've been told I have rather a keen eye. I could, perhaps, help you find more dragonflies...? If it is too late to continue now, I can return tomorrow..."

A deliberate little tilt of his head -- something to make him look more noble, and it was only halfway successful -- as Nettle peered down at the younger buck again, eyes narrowed and teeth set. He was considering his options, and the waning light, and whether or not he wanted some uppity youngster scaring all the insects away...

"Why are you out here, anyway? What were you looking for?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 26, 2008 2:58 am

Oh, down went the ears again. "Well, I wasn't actually... doing... anything," he admitted, "I just... wander around most of the time. Thinking." He looked to the darkening sky. "Just walking and thinking."

"So, you're a flake and a layabout." Nettle frowned down at the younger buck, his own head tipped at an arrogant angle, his expression -- well, disapproving but self-satisfied. Clearly, he enjoyed putting layabouts in their place.

"Fine, then, we'll find some other work to do. Clean the place up some." One rough shake of his head, and Nettle pranced several steps to the left, like he was ready to get going.
