The pale, adult male came trotting slowly along the river bed, his head high and a little hum on his maw. As usual, he was making the rounds that he would never be able to avoid, but he actually seemed to be quite happy despite the duty this morning. He'd been having a good few days, all the better for the fact that he was finally with the one he loved. Asking her to be his mate hadn't been half as hard as he had imagined it to be and now that he had, the pair of them were as happy as they could be. However, living in two separate dens was something that mates didn't do, and Njozi had finally found a place that he felt was suitable for them to live in together. That was why he was out here, looking for her, to tell her!
"Ihlo," he exclaimed with a grin as he spotted her at a distance, his pace quickening as he got to the tree. With his head in the clouds as it was, and the excitement in his thoughts, he didn't even notice her melancholy appearance at first. "I found the perfect place to make a den, do you want to go-" around this time, his eyes had finally started to actually see her and the problems written all over her face and posture. His ears drooped, and a frown immediately creased his maw.
"Are you ok, love?" he asked quietly, moving closer and nosing her maw with his own. He sat slowly, worried eyes glancing her over once. He didn't like to see her this way.

Njozi didn't mind that she flopped onto him, considering the difference in their sizes now. He was a large lion, and she was still just as small and beautiful as she had ever been. Delicate, like an angel, at least in the eyes of such a big lion. Instead of groaning at her weight on him, he simply adjusted until he had her cuddled up against him, leaning his head against hers as he shifted a paw across her back. He would be her support whenever she needed it - and right now, it seemed like she needed him more than ever.
"Oh," he said finally, his brows furrowed and a frown etched across his mug. He would have been in a fit if one of his little brothers or sister had gone missing, and no doubt that was why she looked so distressed. "Do you know where she went?" he asked finally, shifting his ruby-toned eyes up to look at her as best he could. She must have been suffering terribly over this. Of course, to think of a little girl out there all by herself wasn't very comforting either.

Njozi didn’t see Ihlo as any form of a burden. In fact, he felt as if it was his place to be doing this. He was her mate and that made this little girl part of the family to him. As much as Ihlo was a part of his family now, he was also a part of hers, and he had always held the belief that family came first. He would have done anything to help his sisters, especially little Tapanga who would inevitably need more help than the other two. If this little girl needed him, he would try his hardest to treat her the same way he would treat little Tappy.
“Alright, then we’ll go that way,” he said, although she was already walking that way. He took a few quick strides to catch up to her, a little smile on his face as he tried to seem reassuring. “Don’t worry, love, we’ll find her no matter what.”

Ihlo cast him a sincere smile, and although not wanting to stop for a second for fear she'd topple over in sleepiness, she sort of leaned into him as they walked to show how much he meant to her. It was so important for him to know that her heart belonged to him, and that should the chance arise, she would do the same for his family too.
---
The sun had blazed across the sky all day, and Ihlo's search was so far fruitless. It was a very warm day, and although both their belts were light, it was still so easy to get hot and bothered. It was very fortunate that their path took them in and out of shade frequently, a godsend on their search. They'd reached the vague area that Ihlo knew was Nuri's playground sometimes, and her disappointment at not seeing her sister there was evident on her face.
"Uuhhh, I should have known it wasn't THAT easy..."

Njozi looked around slowly once they reached the area that Ihlo had said her sister often frequented. His eyes narrowed on the horizon, turning in place to examine the lands that lay out around them. A soft sigh rippled from his mug, though he turned his attention back upon Ihlo with the best smile he could muster. “We won’t give up here, Ihlo, we’ll keep on looking,” he said reassuringly, moving over to give her cheek a gentle lick. His tail wavered behind him as he took another glance out towards the area around them.
“Maybe she just went a little farther than she usually does? Cubs do that when they’re getting older, you know,” he shrugged lightly, although he was really just trying to cheer Ihlo up. “If this is where she goes usually, then she probably came in this direction. We’ll keep on going until we find her.” He nodded, offering her another weak, reassuring smile. He really did want to find the little girl – it was his job to protect pride members, after all, and she was a part of the pride.

"I know you would," she smiled for him, and she meant it. As tired as she was, she always wanted to be strong for her knight. Ihlo took a breath, forced a steely expression on her maw and ploughed on, relying on Njozi beside her to guide her away from the wrong turns and mis-steps of these outskirts, of which she'd never seen before.
Tree, grass, river, rocks, birds. They passed more and more until...
Nestled atop a sun-baked boulder was a bleached-looking Nurisha. Ihlo nearly burst with relief, and just charged right over to her sister. She lay asleep, peacefully. Ihlo almost wanted to wake her up to give her a verbal bashing, to tell her how much she was missed and how she had been so worried for her sister. To ask where she'd been, what she'd done. Everything and nothing popped into Ihlo's mind, making her even more tired.
She remembered herself and looked over to Njozi, asking him to come over.
