Alaera nodded and started shoving everything else back into the fridge except for the steak. Bring them them over to the stove next to where the demon had set the spices, she hobbled around looking through cabinets for a couple of pans. Once located, she brought these back as well, setting them on top of the burners. Slightly embarrassed, the female realized she had no idea how to work this thing. Peering at the control she remembered Polgara fiddling with so long ago, she found small little pictures, and quickly discovered how to turn on the burners. Feeling almost as if she was on performance with Kane watching her so closely, she tossed the meats into the pan, and after examining the spices, which turned out be black pepper, garlic salt, and onion salt, sprinkled them on lightly. As the meat started to sizzle, she discovered she needed something to let them cook in - they were starting to stick to the bottom of the pan just a bit. She rushed over to the fridge and opened it searching. To her surprise, this time when she opened the fridge it was not filled with meats, but instead all kinds of different sauces and marinades. Still in a hurry, she grabbed the first bottle she saw, sniffed it gingerly before pouring a bit out onto her finger and sticking her tongue out to taste the strange stuff. She shrugged, and deciding it tasted just fine, rushed back over grimacing a bit as she, to add a bit of the stuff into the pan. When all was done and the meat cooking merrily she glanced back over at Kane.

{{phew, cookings hard! XD I kinda went off this recipe if you want to look }}

Tail twitching eagerly, Kane smirked and tilted his head back, sniffing the air delicately. "Hmm...not bad. Smells good," he commented, as close to a compliment as anyone would ever get out of the feral feline.

He'd been mildly surprised at the sudden appearance of the sauces and marinades, however, and he had to note...this place really had everything, didn't it? Curious...

Standing and crossing the room with his usual natural grace, Kane peered into the pan as the salmon cooked. While he seemed completely preoccupied with the food, he suddenly commented as if out of nowhere without looking away from the fish, "You know, you should really stay off that ankle. I'll finish this."

Alaera blinked in surprise. He was offering to cook? Well she had done the hard part already, the demon thought with a huff. But still it was a nice thought. Her ankle was throbbing a bit painfully, though she would never admit it to the male demon. She had her pride to uphold and besides she had a feeling he was just starting to respect her somewhat and she wasn't gonna do anything to make him change his mind. She wondered suddenly why his opinion of her was so important to her? Shaking her head, she pushed the thought away.

She nodded briefly moving aside to let Kane take her place in front of the stove. "Thanks." It did smell quite good she thought, and her stomach rumbled in agreement. She was about to sit down at the table to rest her ankle when a sudden idea struck her. With a bit of an exclamation, she hobbled off out of the room down the hall of the HQ'ers.

Alaera hadn't been in HQ very often during her stay on the island, but when she did visit, there was a certain delight in exploring the numerous rooms. She hadn't managed to get very far in the exploration but she vaguely remembered that there was a room with a strange assortment of weapons. It took her some time to find the room again much to her frustration, as the throbbing in her ankle continued painfully. But there, laying innocently against the wall was exactly what she had been looking for: a long, simple wooden staff. Limping over to it, she picked it up, surprised at it's deceiving appearance for it was much heavier then it looked, and much longer than she had initially thought, the tip of the staff coming to an end just above the tips of her ears. She swung it about rather clumsily testing it's weight in her hands. Deciding it was sturdy enough for her purpose she leaned against it, using it as a third leg to give her injured ankle a rest as she returned down the hall with a smile, the aroma of delicious food leading the way.

Her stomach growled again at the smells taunting it, she rather hoped the food was done. Before returning to sit at the table, she went to the freezer and was not surprised this time, when it was full of ice compresses. Somehow, this strange contraption always knew what the person wanted when it was being opened. She carefully selected a compression, just a simple bag of loose ice that she could shape around her swollen red ankle. As she sat back down, the demon looked over at Kane, still holding onto her new staff a bit possessively. She had become attached to it already, perhaps she should learn how to fight with it. Then she wouldn't be so defenseless.

"Food ready?" she asked.

While he raised an eyebrow questioningly at Alaera's sudden exclamation, Kane didn't say anything. He figured that whatever she was up to was her business...though he noted that her ankle was starting to swell with misuse. Whatever...he had more important things to worry about at the moment...like food...

A while later, his ear twitched at the new sound of a third 'footfall'. Well, not exactly. The demon shot a look over to the female, noting her new accessory. Smart move. Between that and the ice pack, maybe she'd correct some of the damage she'd done to her ankle already. She definitely needed to stay in this place, whatever it was, for a while. There was no way she'd have survived in the wild, pushing herself with an injury like that. She'd have been lamed for life at the least.

"Yeah, yeah...just a minute..."

He wasn't used to fussing with another person when he cooked. When he cooked. Normally, he'd just eat the fish straight from the pan if he bothered to cook it at all, though he knew well enough to know that that wouldn't do with 'normal' Pae'il. Crazy things and their crazy 'rules.' Stalking over to one cabinet and expecting to start a long, annoying search, he was surprised to open the first door and immediately find the plates. Hmm...this place was odd, that was for sure. It sorta' gave him the creeps...like someone was watching and putting things in place just ahead of his own steps...

Shoving that unpleasant thought aside, he quickly snatched a couple plates and slammed the cabinet shut, stalking back to the stove. Before long, the fish was on the plates and on the table along with an ice cold pitcher of water from the fridge.

Kane flopped down in his chair, heavily, beginning to feel the effects of blood loss combined with exertion and little food in some time. He was not a happy feline...though he would be in a moment. "Dig in," he commented, setting about his own meal with little concern for the female. He deftly sliced off portions of the salmon steak with his claws before popping them in his mouth. Although he ate with his hands, he did so in an oddly delicate manner, making little mess despite his "wild" demeanor as Takeko used to refer to it.

Alaera watched him closely as he bustled about the kitchen. He seemed oddly at ease and more familiar with the furnishings than she had ever expected a wild pae to be. She wondered idly about his past. Surely a small boy wouldn't be able to survive on his own, so someone had to have taken care of him...for awhile at least...right? Somehow she just couldn't picture Kane as a little boy, though she knew he once had to have been. The only image that kept popping into her mind was that of a tiny little tiger cub. She snorted with laughter, trying to keep it from bursting out. Guardians, he'd probably really kill her this time if he knew what she was thinking of him.

Watching him eat only reinforced her questions about him...it was so refined and well polite. Not what she expected at all, especially since she had the impression he hadn't eaten in some time. And then after the incident in the forest...even she was famished and wanted to just rip into the food.

The delicious smell of the food wafted up to her nose and reminded her just how hungry she really was. Pushing her thoughts aside, she looked around for some silverware but found none. The female sighed...she really didn't feel like getting back up again...glancing over at Kane, she decided to follow his lead. 'Never used my claws like this before' she thought with a smirk. Shrugging, she flexed her hands before spearing the flesh of the meat with her claws, rather enjoying the trickled of juices flowing down her fingers. Impatient to eat, instead of cutting up her food so politely as Kane had done, she simply raised the entire chunk of meat to her mouth, and bite off a piece, chewing it slowly, savoring the taste.

"Mmm" she said with her mouth full of food. She swallowed before continuing. "Tastes pretty good for the first time I've really cooked anything. "

Kane continued eating slowly, though he too was tempted to tear into the fish as Alaera was doing. In fact, he watched her with private amusement, one eyebrow raised as he nibbled on the small sections of fish speared on his claws. After a while, he finally spoke up.

"Nice. So, you offer to cook me dinner as payment for that dare...and you'd never really cooked anything before? Plotting revenge early in case you lost? You were going to kill me with your cooking so I could never tell anyone you lost the bet? How, devious..."

He calmly sliced off another section of fish and resumed eating. To be honest, the food had put him in a much more pleasant mood. Pleasant enough...that his previous comment could probably be considered as close to a joke as Kane would ever make.

Then...

"You know, if you eat too fast, especially on an empty stomach, you'll just end up making yourself sick. Kinda' defeats the purpose of eating at all."

Not that he cared or anything. It'd just be a waste of perfectly good salmon steaks.

Nothing worse than wasting good food.

After a while, Kane finished his meal and washed it down with a full glass of water. He hesitated a moment, then began discretely licking his fingers and claws clean. It was habit and instinct to clean himself after a meal, and as much as he hesitated to do so in front of someone else, especially a stranger, he couldn't seem to NOT do it.

Hopefully, Alaera would still be too distracted, either by food or her ankle, to pay him much attention.
