Original sin. Adam screwed it up for us all.

The original sin has/had no effect on humanity as a whole. It killed Eve and Adam, but not us.

Original sin is the reason we're attracted to sin.

No we are not sinful by nature, but we are attracted to sin by nature. We're good by nature since we're made in the image of good.

Original Sin is a creation by St. Augustine in order to explain the nature of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception and the ability for her to have born the Christ.

The purpose of the cross, to wash away sins, was also the ability to conquer death so that we can have eternal life. The West emphasizes too much on the sin aspect and often forgets the Victory over death, as Death is what we were given from the Sin of Adam, not their sins passed on to us but the mercy of death while living in sin. So once Christ was in the tomb He harrowed Hades, unleashing those who were in waiting. Now we can truly be in Him eternally since He conquered Death.

The Early Church Fathers were taiught by the Apostles that Christ has mercy on those who are weak, physically and spiritually. This mercy extends to those who have no voice, like children. Therefore all children, born and unborn are in his mercies and if murdered or killed, are in His presence for eternity.
