home is where the...
Halloween was an quirky occasion for them. Five years ago to the date, after a harrowing experience in the Haunted House, Mort had returned to his witch with Insanity and also, hey, they had tearfully confessed their fears, love, and support to one another. Things like that stuck--literally and metaphorically--long after. Even if it had been sort of cheesy, dire straits or not. It was the sort of thing you got used to when Belladonna was your girlfriend and, hell, Mort couldn't help but fondly reminisce about romance's ups and downs. Time made memories easier to look at, to laugh at even.
But there would be time later, if they wanted, to bring any of that up. For now, as he stretched his arms and watched the knuckles pop on his skeletal limb, Mort asked, "Stay in or go out this time?"

As nice as it would have been to say that the melodrama had been decreased significantly, it would have been a lie and well, those aren't very good foundational markers for relationships. There was a decided lack of melodrama between the couple as time wore on, either from a mutual agreement that they were very tired and trying to pass exams or from simply learning to better extract themselves from sticky situations before things got too weepy. But just because the amount of times in which things got all theatrical and soul bearing had decreased did not mean it lessened in intensity when they did occur. All in all, when things went a** over teakettle, Belladonna was dramatic, but for the remainder of their time together she was relatively smooth.
All that being established, the witch was trying very hard not to succumb to a fit of theatrics just because it was Halloween. She had been smart to keep herself busy all day, working early in her parent's shop that was bustling all the more on this special holiday, and going so far as to deep clean their apartment when she arrived home. She hadn't once thought of dinner and was just putting the finishing touches on arranging their dining table with a thoughtfully macabre arrangement when Mort broke her concentration. "Oh! Is it that time already?"
