Her tail swayed behind her as she navigated through the melting snow. Spring was arriving with haste, but finding tasty greens was still difficult. Ajaxis followed a line of trees, occasionally reaching up to the lower branches to pull off a few of the lime green buds. Just a little snack till she found a fresh, mudless grazing area. She had been searching for sometime through the winter, and she was quiet tired of the snow and the mess it was so apt to bring. Mud was just unpleasant, the sound beneath her hooves, the feel of it on her legs, the occasional splash on her belly if she was trotting. Ajaxis could hardly contain herself when she saw the sunrise bright in the clear sky this morning, so she began heading up to a higher altitude. Maybe it would be drier the higher she went. She could only keep walking, her stomach roaring, looking for an exposed patch of grass.
Eborune I couldn't help myself. <3 Take your time.

Hokkan noticed the mare coming from his vantage point, though he wasn't visible to her unless she looked up. A lone mare, and quite an odd looking one at that! Especially the tail, it was strange. Still, strange didn't mean bad by any means. As far as some of his herdmates were concerned, he was strange and that was likely why they were always putting flowers on him when he slept. Either that, or it was a subtle lesson why sleeping as deeply as he did was a bad idea, but that was neither here nor there. He had to find out her intentions, and whether she was a threat or just a wanderer.
He left his vantage point, spreading his wings to allow himself to glide down into her path. "Good day." He greeted politely, for while he was a guard of his herd he always tried to assume innocent intent. Now on level with her, he could take in details he hadn't previously noted, like that her hooves and fetlocks were muddy. That could explain why she was heading to a higher elevation, if she was trying to escape all the slush and snow melt. That's why his herd had headed up, and nearly every single flier among them had put their wings to good use to avoid that very problem. "Trying to get out of the mud?"

He seemed stiff, stoic perhaps. Ajaxis worried that she was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be, lands where she didn't belong. Although in the past few years she seemed not to belong anywhere, and the lack of contact with anyone that spoke her language was very uncommon. With a node she followed him, elated to hear there was somewhere drier, with fresh food. "Thank you," she projected forward, as well as her voice could, although it came out to be softer than she hoped. "The trees have yet to give anything other than buds, and the sun hides for so long in the winter." Her stomach grumbled in agreement. But it wasn't just food she was after. A scent had caught her nose, something strong and powerful. Musky, but fresh. Warm, but cold like the mountains it rolled from. It was a long journey she had taken, through the valley and swamps, towards the mountains for a smell that gave her butterflies. and the scent was so near, so close. Ajaxis stopped in her tracks for a moment, wondering if the scent was his. She shook her head, declining the notion. How odd this day was going. "May I ask, how long have you been here?" Ajaxis pushed herself forward, admiring Hokkan from behind.
