Summons

Petro stared at the message. It was handwritten and delivered by a courier. It meant it wasn't urgent. And after reading it, his presence back at the clan wasn't important. Not that important. But it was from family. And that made it important to the tikbalang. He would have liked to bring Lattice with him if her schedule would allow.

His knuckles tattooed a rhythm against Lattice's door, the beat ingrained in his muscles, just like the ring tattooed on his skin.

Lattice had been unaware, of course, of the note Petro had received. She had been busily going about her studies and on occasion singing to herself when the knock came. Her voice silenced almost immediately as she listened to the familiar knock. Lattice was at the door immediately.

"Petro," she said as a greeting, her voice raised an octave showing her excitement, a small smile brightening her face.

"I was just thinking of you," she always thought of him when she sang.
