Stalled Journey (Kaliri, Derecho & Fam)

His brother did have a point. While they were traveling through this area now, it might be some time before they came back here and there was a chance that they may never walk this exact same path again. Now he was really torn over rushing along and going slowly to see everything there was to offer. "Maybe..." He began to suggest considering their options. "If we spread out a bit, we have a better chance of finding all of the neat things along the way." He took a moment to glance back at his parents, if they got too far away from them they would get in trouble. "But we still need to stay kind of close, or else mom and dad will yell at us again. Or worse, force us to stay in a meadow again." He did not want that to happen now that they had tasted freedom for the first time.

Hearing his brothers challenge he smiled. "Oh I will, and it will be so much more interesting than whatever you end up finding." In truth, he didn't care who found something, he was just enjoying the freedom. Though having the bragging rights of finding the first interesting thing along the way would be awesome.

Derecho laughed lightly and nuzzled Kaliri as they walked. He knew this whole parenting thing was hard on both of them, but it was clear that Kaliri was taking it the hardest. It probably happened in all families, the mare worrying more than the stallion. "If they had have told you how hard it was, you might never have taken on the responsibility and who knows what would have happened to them." He didn't want to think about it, but it did come to him mind now and then. What would have happened to the foals had he and Kaliri not happened by when they did? It was clear their true parents weren't coming back, but would another have come by in time or would the foals be left on their own? At least they didn't have to worry about that, they had a family to take care of them.

Drake Grimaced slightly at the thought of either being yelled at OR staying in the meadow, honestly one was as bad as the other and he wasn't looking forward to doing either. "Okay so we have to keep our serch within their eyesight so they can see us and not freak out." Drake agreed. Sure it would be harder to spot something interesting before his brother did doing it that way but he hey..he had never backed away from a challenge before and he wasn't about to start now!

"Alright!" He told his brother "the contest staaaarrrttts..NOW!" He shouted before prancing off to the side to look for something neat or interesting before his brother could find something.

"That is true I suppose, though even knowing how hard it was I doubt we would have left them there all alone. I'm really just glad we happened to run across them." Kaliri admit as she watched the two colts running on ahead of them "What do you think they are talking about up there? " She asked her mate, squinting to get a better look at the colts through the sunlight "They seem awfully engrossed in something." Which usually meant they were plotting some sort of trouble...

"Agreed." He gave a solid nod of his head. Staying within their parents sight would by far be the hardest part of this challenge. Sure, finding something would also prove difficult, but he knew they would both be in big trouble if they got too far away from their parents - especially now that they were splitting up to look for something interesting.

As soon as Drakon took off, Farstrider followed suit, moving in the opposite direction. Hey maybe there would be something interesting to find in that group of bushes and rocks. He took a quick glance at how far his parents were away from them and made a mad dash for the bushes. It didn't take him too long to get there, after all it was just a quick trot away and then he began to look on top, in, around and below the bushes for anything that may win him this competition.

"No, we would have raised them regardless of our knowledge on the subject." He knew that, even if the idea of parenthood was still too new and foreign to him. At her question he stopped and observed the boys. Head tipping his watched the two colts, it was clear they were deep in conversation and then suddenly they each went running in the opposite direction. Damn, he didn't want to yell at them just yet, but if they went too far he would. But after a moment of watching them he realized they weren't running to get away. "I do believe...that they are looking for...well something. Probably a bout of sibling competition or game play."

As his brother ran off to look in some bushes Drake found himself searching around a small boulder sitting at the side of the meadow, he wondered briefly what might have brought the boulder here - I mean its not like they were near mountains it could have fallen from and yet here it was, way out in the middle of nowhere! Surely there had to be some sort of interesting fact about it or something around it. Oh! What was that growing up beside it?!? It was a plant he had never seen before and sure the flowers were kind of pretty but pretty flowers were also sort of girly so there was no way he could win a contest with them.

Ignoring the flower and becoming highly disappointing in the rock Drake huffed at stone as he moved away. It had been promising but in the end it was just a rock and rocks were not interesting. Oh well. Spotting a fallen log not to long away the colt raced in that direction. Perhaps he would have better luck there.

Well that explanation made about as much sense as any other one she could think of though the mare couldn't recall playing such a game with her siblings - they had found other trouble to get into but then again they had lived in a herd and had a completely different foal hood when compared to these two. "Foals play the strangest games." She said with a slight laugh as she watched them roam about "but at least they are having fun."

The more he dug into the patch of bushes the more he realized they hid an unpleasant surprise. The thorns that had been hidden among the leaves now pricked at his skin. Anything that may be hidden under them wasn't worth it, so he backed out, careful to avoid as many of them as possible and then looked around for some place else to look. He took a moment to cast a glance towards his brother, but it hadn't appeared that Drake had found anything yet. Good, he still had a chance of winning this.

Leaving the bushes behind, Farstrider began to scour the surrounding area. There had to be something incredibly neat here, and he just had to find it first.

"I'm sure that you played strange games with your siblings as well, perhaps even stranger ones than what they are playing now." He teased her. Of course saying this reminded him that when they did reach their final destination he wouldn't be meeting just her parents, but her siblings and that extended family of Usdia that they lived with.
