Dakota cast an eye upwards. Cloud, again? He pressed one ear backwards in mild annoyance. At least, he considered, it wasn’t raining. Rain wasn’t exactly the best thing for flutters like himself, it could take hours to dry out his wings all the way. And flying in the rain was abhorrent, and dangerous. Well, he humphed, it wasn’t like he enjoyed flying much anyway. While Dakota was a stocky stallion, he was seriously lacking in stature, and he wasn’t very fond of becoming any smaller than he already was.
But that meant his only form of travel was walking, and that severely limited his options. He could feel a faint hunger gnawing within his stomach, and knew it was time to graze, but all the vegetation around here looked limp and dull. It wouldn’t make the most appetising of meals, that was for sure. Thinking back, he remembered that there had been a meadow not too far away that he’d noticed. Perhaps the grazing would be better over there? It was the best plan he had. He plodded along steadily, heading in what he thought was the right direction.
It took a while, but soon the meadow was before him. And he could see that he was not alone, another Soquili had apparently had the same idea as him. He couldn’t make them out too well, but shrugged. A bit of company with his food had never harmed him.

Dakota gave a polite nod, stepping closer until he was within a comfortable conversing distance. Though the hunger in his stomach was growing, it was only polite to introduce himself first, after all the mare – for it was a mare, as it turned out – had acknowledged his presence. “Afternoon.” He replied, his voice deep and calm. “I see the grazing looks good here.” He eyed the grass. Here, the blades were plump and juicy, a much more vibrant green than where he’d been before. “Dakota, by the way.”
He bent his beck down to take a good bite of the grass. It crunched satisfyingly between his teeth, releasing its succulent flavour. He sighed in satisfaction, quickly gulping it down and snatching another mouthful.
