Winter and The Mouseling Festival Arrives!
After October Prime, the Dormouse ghoul began watching the weather almost religiously. It was very important for her to know when the first snow would fall.
Soon, it was finally time... When news of when the first snow came in, Camilla was both excited and nervous. On one hand, it would be the first time she'd ever seen snow for longer then a few minutes. On the other... Classes and daily life was going to change drastically... She could stay up now when it was cold, but not very well...
As the day neared, the Dormouse ghoul began preparing for the Mouseling Festival, which would be on the first day it snowed. The first thing she did was call her parents. Typically, the whole point of the Mouseling festival was to fatten up the Mouselings about to hibernate, and to spend time with their family before the sleep. But, Camilla didn't need to fatten up, and she wasn't going to be able to travel all the way back to Mouseshire just for that one week... It was common practice to celebrate the Mouseling Festival even when you were no longer a Mouseling and didn't have Mouselings. But, a single person Mouseling Festival was quite a bit different from the larger affair.
For one, the food needed to be a great deal less fatty. For another, no gifts needed to be exchanged. And, Camilla didn't know where she might pray for her own good health... She did consider inviting her friends... But, eventually decided against it.
Finally, the day came! Normally, the Mouseling Festival lasted a whole week. But, considering she wasn't a Mouseling nor did she have Mouselings, she figured just the day of the first snow would do. The air was very cold that day and she had her heater cranked up to keep her dorm warm.
She set up skype on her computer so she could chat with her family while she ate and generally enjoyed herself. All the while keeping a close eye on the weather outside. Eventually, just as she was about to toast to a wellwish from her family, the glimmer of a falling flake caught her eye! "Ooo! Yay! It's starting to snow!" she exclaims excitedly before putting the glass down and rushing over to her coat rack.
It was time for, what was usually, the official ender of the festival- The Snow Play! The Snow Play was: when the first snow began to fall, Mouselings would go out and play in it till they fell asleep and were carried in by their parents. For Camilla, things would happen a bit differently this year. Layer after layer was put on till she looked more like a Eskimo rather then a Dormouse. Finally, when she was sure she'd be warm enough she rushes out her door and down the stairs.
Other creeple seemed to have the same idea, and the Dormouse ghoul had a grand time playing in the first snowfalls. Eventually however, the cold wet snow started to soak her many layers... Soon, she started getting sleepyer and sleepyer, until she acted almost like she was drunk... And in fact, she was quite punch drunk at that point. She finally decided to go in when a simple snowball knocked her flat on her back and she almost fell asleep...
After stumbling her way back inside and shambling up the stairs, it took her a few minutes just to dig out her key. And, a few minutes longer just to get the key in the lock! Eventually, she did get back inside and after warming up with a good cup of cocoa, she turned in early for the night.
It had been a good day! |

Winter Dulldrums...
The first week of Winter wasn't so bad. Camilla couldn't get over how beautiful snow was! And nor could her minis either. The beauty almost vindicated the hardships snow presented to her, almost...
Unfortunately, after the first week, as the wow factor wore off, winter soon started to become fairly bothersome... It was a nightmare getting to her classes, and since many of the classrooms weren't heated, she often fell asleep... Eventually, she decided to forego going to classes all together and take a online course.
And that wasn't all either. Her monthly supply run, which usually was a pleasure for the Dormouse ghoul, now was a harrowing experience... She'd tried to stay active and go outside every day, but after nearly falling asleep, she decided to forego that too...
So here she was... Stuck in her dorm, bored out of her mind... And worse yet- Restless... After a few weeks, she'd played all her video games, made all her new recipes, read all her books, and pampered her minipets to no end... She needed to get out! She needed to run, and jump, and play!
She was starting to get... Dorm Fever... And it was starting to wear on her Minipet's nerves... |
