Yakone wasn't born yesterday, but boy, was she born ready. The minute she'd heard the announcement of the pairings, she spent the rest of that day training. Well, if one could call rough-housing with her brothers "training". And she did. Besides, she and her brother Dyami were the only adolescents participating this year. That meant they had to work extra hard. She had seen some of the adults scoff as she stepped forward. She saw that as just another challenge, one she could easily overcome.

The next morning, the spar was on the verge of kicking off. Both lionesses sized each other up, and after a long moment, Yakone grinned.
"When I was a cub, I was known as the 'Crimson Crusher'!" she proclaimed, confidence bursting out of every pore. "And here's why!"

With that, she began to charge at the pale lemon lioness. Within the final few feet, she rose onto her back legs, paws swinging left and right at Yinehi's head. All that youthful energy and desire would surely aid her in this battle-- her debut!

In the few microseconds she kept standing, the adolescent couldn't help but feel proud: she just knocked down an adult. Not only that, but this lady was the daughter of Skan, who was son of Tawa'di. That meant she was more or less royalty! Her conscience (or maybe her ego) warned her not to rough her up too badly.

All thoughts fled her, though, when she felt a large paw on the back of her neck suddenly drag her down. Oh, so that as her game, was it? Well, it took two to tango! Yakone wrestled and spun around in Yinehi's hold, which was surprisingly strong. The two tumbled around for a few moments, sending clouds of dirt and dust into the air. The decorative feathers and necklaces she wore suddenly felt like hindrances, and she growled angrily as they became twisted and tangled.

One hormone-fueled strike to the snout, and Yakone managed to wrangle herself out of her opponent's grasp. She quickly got to her feet, eager to put some distance between them.

Her legs, powerful as they were for such a greenhorn, throbbed in pain as she literally tore herself from Yinehi's claws. Yakone grit her teeth as she ran/hobbled from the older lioness. Nobody ever told her claws were allowed! Why didn't she think of that earlier?!

As she caught her breath, the air became still once more. The spectators that had gathered to watch didn't say a word, for the tension was thick in the air. Yakone knew that every second spent recovering meant another second for Yinehi to plan a defense, or worse: an assault. Not wanting to waste any more precious time, the red girl began pacing again.

This time, though, she'd try an old trick that had gotten her into trouble. Rather than sprint at breakneck speed, she dragged her feet through the dirt, creating small clouds of dust. She then circled around Yinehi, keeping a fair distance from her. The clouds rose into the air on the light breeze, and she began the process again. After a second layer rose, she took off, using her paws now to scoop up large pawfuls of dust and dirt. And she didn't bother hiding the fact that she was tossing them in Kinehi's direction!

Even though her legs bled slightly in protest, and dust was getting in her eyes and nostrils, Yakone charged forth once more, leaping into Yinehi's side. And this time, she had her claws out.

And hurt it did. Thick as her skull was (both metaphorically and physically), running headlong into a lion wasn't the smartest move, in hindsight. As Yinehi had contorted her body to avoid the blow, she ended up knocking heads with the adolescent. As her spine's twirl ended its natural curve, the motion sent Yakone accidentally being thrown past her shoulder-- a rare bit of luck!

The now dusty-brown adolescent somersaulted over the ground, before ending in a large dramatic flop. The entire spectacle caused the onlookers to first chuckle. Then, as Yakone was unexpectedly thrown, a few gasps, followed by a bubbling of chortles. Finally, the dusty denouement caused the audience to erupt into hysterics. As Yakone stood up, embarrassed beyond belief, she and the other lions watched with hitched breaths as one of her feathers suddenly fell off and more or less disintegrated.

At this point, it seemed like even the gods were laughing. Thank goodness her fur was naturally red, lest Yinehi see how embarrassed and angry she really was! Slowly rising like a pot that was boiling over, Yakone glowered at her pale opponent. Nobody made a fool of Yakone Kalisetsi.

If ever there was a lion that mimicked a rhino perfectly, it was this one. Like a freight train of hurt, she flung herself at the daughter of Skan. Claws, teeth, the works. She was in for a reckoning!


Roll 4: Double

Bone and muscle rolled and rippled along the dirt as the two fought for dominance. The wellspring of her youthful energy seemed dry now. Even her fiery determination for victory was beginning to wane.

And yet she was so close to victory!! She could almost taste it! Despite her body groaning in protest, she batted and swiped at Yinehi. She was just about to execute her final maneuver (which seemed pretty impossible, given the position she was in), when she felt two large paws suddenly shove her off.

Well, that was rude! The sudden, forceful behavior caught her off-guard, and she hit the ground on her back. Fortunately, the wind hadn't been knocked out of her, and she scrambled to her feet. Shaking her head a few times to clear her vision, Yakone gave a breathy, but silent laugh.

And then she leapt once more.

xD Hell yeah we can! Let's set it up á la classic Lion King style, wherein Yakone leaps at her but Yinehi sortakinda kicks her off? :V If needed, I can do another post after yours so Yakone can claim victory.

The two had collided like a pair of sparring bucks, putting their all into that one last shove. However, any and all vigor and instinct gave way to extreme fatigue; over the course of this fight, Yakone had learned to not be quite so enthusiastic in the first few rounds.

As their bodies hit the ground, the adolescent took the battering like a champ. She didn't care at this point. Thank the gods it ended fairly quickly, though, because before she could say "tattoo", she heard those magic words. She didn't register them at first, but she heard a few spectators gasp audibly. Lifting her head, Yakone blinked in bewilderment. Did she... did she just win?!

The lethargy that overtook her was suddenly swept away by the overwhelming feeling of victory. She couldn't help but spring to her feet, and turn to face the crowd. The grin that plastered itself on her face was all the evidence they needed, because an overwhelming roar of cheers and whistling broke out. What a rush! She basked in the afterglow, feeling the adrenaline give way to a more soothing, accomplished feeling.

Turning back to face Yinehi, the grin slipped away. She hadn't though about her outcome from all this. Not only did she just defeat an adult, but this was a member of the founding lineage of the entire pride. Not a good position to be in.
"Er, I didn't... rough you up too bad, did I?" she said awkwardly, helping the creamy lioness to her feet. She kept her eyes cast downwards, but after a moment she raised them. "It was, uh... it was a good fight. I didn't think you Bird Clan members had it in you!" She barked out a laugh, followed by a hearty slap on the shoulder. Followed by wincing and shaking her paw gingerly.

Tomorrow was going to be fun.
