Winters bite had taken over the world, snow lay thick on the ground and the warmth of the sun no longer reached the inhabitants of the Soquili lands. Starlight was having a hard time sleeping these days, the land seems to transform whenever she closed her eyes and she was so content watching the flakes fall from the sky that sleeping really had been put of the back burner for curiosities sake. Never the less she always found herself nested up to her mothers belly in the morning, her eyes sore and her voice groggy. The weather had done a number on her health and she always felt so weak these days, the coughing and sneezing had been pretty constant though the foal tried her best to ignore the cold that was plaguing her.

She raised her head from her mothers side and looked over her shoulder for her bother. He was not there, but that was not too unusual, the two foals often left the den at their choosing and she herself often left at the crack of dawn to play in the fields or look for food. It seemed that she had slept in and in was her brother who had made an early get away. She grunted, her voice raspy as she lowered her head onto her mother once more, taking in the warm comfort that she gave her. The kind of warmth that could only be found when she was around her. She was not feeling too good today, maybe she would just stay at home for a change. "Mom. Are you awake?" The young foal nudged the side of her parent, clearly looking for some kind of sympathy, her head was spinning.

Winter was fun at first, now all she wanted was for the cold weather to bugger off of the warmth of autumn might return. She was completely unaware that there were two more seasons to endure before her golden valleys would return.

Katida opened her eyes, she had been listening to her children move around all night. They were certainly restless since the winter came to greet the world. Though she couldn't blame them. As a foal, she often liked to nose around in the new things all around her. Lifting her head, she heard her daughter. "I am now my dear," she smiled at her daughter and rested her head on top of her daughters.

"Did you need something my dear?" She lifted her head back up again and nosed at Starlight lightly. The little one seemed to like the snow and the cold when she had first seen it, but now Katida wasn't sure. She was getting a bit sick and the temperatures just weren't getting any warmer. They were just getting into the colder temperatures of winter, the dead of winter. She was sure that her children would probably benefit from some extra warmth when the deeper cold rolls around. She would have to gather some extra leaves and grasses into their home. Looking at the entrance she thought that it could use some extra insulation as well. After all, the drafts start from the entrance of their home.

She looked back to her daughter and smiled again. Perhaps she would have to find something special for her to keep warm. Maybe make her a nice little bed in the furthest corner from the entrance. Some extra leaves. She could probably find some dry leaves and grasses someplace as well. That would certainly help her to keep warm at night. And she could stay back there with her, cuddling always gives off such a good amount of warmth. She was worried about the cold she Starlight seemed to be catching though. It was something that couldn't be allowed to get any worse than it was already. She certainly hoped that her daughter would want to spend a few days inside with her. The rest would do her some good. And, hopefully, the cold would work it's way out of the little one. She knew a couple of tricks to try and get the cold to leave, but she's only ever seen her mother perform them, never done them herself.

It was something new to have foals of her own, certainly a new adventure! Watching the baskets open and her babies coming out into the world was a strange experience. It was surreal to see the little things that looked so much like her get up and walk around her. But her cat like nature certainly took over from there. She enjoyed playing around with the little things, hopping around them and playing tag. Made to be a mother, that's what she thought of herself at this point. It was pure joy to have these little things running around, even if they were pretty independent. It's not something she would complain about to others. After all, having decently self sufficient children makes a mothers live a little bit easier. And she still got to play with them, which is the important part to her.
