Breath rolled out of her nostrils as her chest heaved. She was out of breath and delighted. It wasn't often that she let her urge to kill, to eat fresh Soquili, out from behind her curtain of politeness and soft words. Her stomach was full, muzzle and talons streaked with blood. On the ground in front of her lay the dismembered remains of two miniatures. What breed they'd been was anyone's guess; the parts that were left were hard to piece together.

Faye had approached the clearing intending just to pass through. There'd been no reason other than happenstance for her to cross this path on this day. It was one of the many routes she could have chosen. On the opposite end of the clearing, she'd seen two figures standing near the path but paid them no mind. She'd been feasting on grouse and hares as she found them and hadn't a particular hunger for meat that day. But as she got nearer to the pair, their stance became defensive. Her interest piqued.

"Hello." She greeted the couple, watching their reactions closely. They said nothing in response and stood, resolute, not moving. She moved closer, purposely crowding them. They showed discomfort, but stood their ground. It seemed they were guarding something she couldn't identify. Faye looked around, searching, but still saw nothing. She focused intently on the pair again. "Would you mind getting out of the path, please?" Her tone was soft and gentle. "Go around," the male said, gruff. Their refusal to get out of the way was beginning to annoy her. An eyebrow raised as she considered. They were small - one might say bite-sized, despite the fact that she would obviously need more than one bite. It might be fun to toy with them, force them to give up their ground. Or, she could kill one of them by surprise and watch the mixture of terror and anger wash over the other. The possibilities were numerous. Plus, she could have whatever they were guarding if she killed them.

"I would not recommend making me ask again," she stated. "Please let me cross along this path." The female spoke up this time. "We will not." Faye picked up a hoof and stomped the ground. "So be it," she said, and lifted a claw to slash them both. The female took the brunt of the hit and fell to the ground in a limp heap. The male ended up with gashes across his shoulder, but survived the initial attack. Before he could react, Faye dug her claws into the body on the ground, making a mess of her for the fun of it. The emotions of the prey made the chase better, and he wouldn't survive long enough to do anything about it anyway. The male began running as best he could away from her. She let him get several hundred yards away, and then dashed after him, pouncing, pinning him to the ground. "I asked you to move," she admonished gently, and promptly ripped out his throat. She dragged his body back to the female's, and had a snack. Most of the meat was left when she finished. She didn't mind that she'd been full; scavengers would get an excellent meal from the pair.

Faye rested until the sun began to set, then climbed to her feet again, blood long since dried onto her legs, and continued along the path they'd been blocking. Her foot bumped into something solid but soft. She looked down and saw two baskets hidden in the grass. 'Baskets?' she thought. 'No wonder they were so protective. What on earth will I do with these?' She looked down at them, studying them for a few minutes. Children were probably annoying, and they were too small to be worth killing. Especially if they turned out to be miniature like the adults she'd dispatched. Perhaps they could be useful in some way instead. Yes...she could use a pair of living, breathing toys. She gathered the baskets and went on her way.

~ baskets over the next 3 weeks before they pop.~

The purple basket got the brunt of the blood splash, marring its innocent appearance and some of it dripped onto the tiny foal inside. The harsh and confusing scent turned her sweet dreams from then on into hellish nightmares. At first it shook a lot and made horrible cries . . . But eventually when it found no comfort it stopped.
The blue basket however which had been shielded by the other stayed as snowy white and pure as the day it was woven and It's occupant slept soundly occasionally making a happy sound.

( its great! The next post will be them poping open. Do you wanna do it while she is there or should I have them stumbling about in the dark of her bone littered cave for a bit?)

Waiting had never been her strong suit, and having no control over when the baskets would open was making her irritable. She looked over at the baskets and sighed. The basket which had been purple was still coated by dried blood. She'd made no attempt to clean it after it had gotten splashed; she'd assumed it would just smear into the weave and make an even larger mess. Plus, she liked having a reminder of the fun she'd had each time she saw it. After they opened, the baskets would be added to her small, but growing, pile of trophies.

Faye studied the baskets and tried to guess what the little ones inside would be like. Annoying, she was sure, but so easily manipulated that it *should* be worth her time. Perhaps, if all went well, she could pit them against one another and watch them tear each other apart. At the very least, they could do menial tasks for her. And if they weren't worth her time, they'd be a tasty snack -- just like their parents.

But watching them wasn't making them open any faster, so she exited her cave to look for a snack.

I think having them wander around the cave is a good idea, so now she's outside xd

The blue basket was the first open and topple its precious contents out into the wide world . . . or rather the dark cave. Blinking her glittering green eyes she saw beside her basket another basket that was different but awfully similar to hers. She nuzzled at it making a noise she considered soothing. Soon the purple basket began to wiggle and its lid opened. A wary looking twin eventually fumbled her way out and they touched noses. They nicked to each other softly trying too comfort one another in their new and strange surroundings.
Eventually a glow came from the darkest corner of the the cave and two small things wandered up to the foals. The purple too the purple the blue to the blue. They had been hiding away in dark corner so as not to be seen by the horrible pink mare that had tried to stomp on them.
the glow from the litwicks flames illuminated the cave and showed them gruesome sights. bones and flesh that smelled foul. Afraid the foals coward toward a clean space against the wall. they didn't know what the things were but they did know it was bad.
when the litwicks heard the clacking of claws against stone they went once more into hiding. leaving the foals to meet their caretaker for the first time.

Faye laid stretched out in the shade of a tall, leafy deciduous tree. She didn't know, or particularly care, what type of tree it was because all she cared about was the shade it provided, but if she'd bothered to learn about plants when her family was teaching her, she'd have known it was a giant oak. The half-eaten remains of a small ram lay at her feet. Her stomach was warm and full, slightly distended from the meal. Her eyes were closed and her breathing was slow and deep. To any casual interloper it would appear that she were sleeping; in actuality, she was simply catching some much-needed rest by letting her body relax while her mind and senses remained on full alert. It was rare for her to sleep fully, and usually only happened after a tough battle, an extremely large meal, or when she was absolutely sure that no one would intrude upon her.

Through her eyelids, she noted that the direction of the sunlight around her patch of shade had shifted, indicating the passage of several hours. She supposed it was time to head back and check on those delightful baskets. Faye picked up the ram and carried it back toward her cave. She encountered no other living creatures on the path back to her home. She'd made it a point to hunt anything that strayed into the half-mile surrounding her cave, and the dismantled carcasses she'd left as an indicator of what would happen to trespassers seemed to have done the trick. It made it so she had to go a little further to hunt, but really it was a worthwhile trade-off.

Faye entered the mouth of the cave and stopped. She could sense that something was different. She heard nothing moving inside and could not smell anything over the sharp, metallic smell of the ram's blood, but just the same, she knew. Perhaps some creature had not gotten the message that intruders are not welcome here after all. She laid her meal on the ground. "Helloooo," she called softly, continuing forward, ready to attack whatever may be inside. But when she entered the center of the cave, her eyes caught a surprise. The baskets laid open, lids on the ground, small and timid creatures standing near them. She smiled. "Are you hungry?" Faye asked. She backtracked, grabbed onto the ram with her teeth, and dragged it in front of the foals. "I was going to save this for later, but I suppose I shall share with you, instead," she said, voice dripping with sweetness. She waited and watched, waiting for the foals to begin eating. They wouldn't know that they should be grateful, but she would teach them their manners quickly. Very, very quickly. Her smile grew, her eyes looking at them expectantly.

The blue one needed no second invitation. As soon as she saw an adult figure she bounded forward stumbling over the offered food excitedly getting blood all over her fluffy white coat.
"Ma Ma!" she said sweetly Greeting their mother and nuzzling at her legs contentedly.
"mmmmmm mama." she added with a yawn and laid down between her clawed feet.

The purple however hung back in her place against the wall. She looked rather unhealthy compared to the plump blue foal, she was thinner, with weary sleep deprived eyes.
This wasn't right . . .something wasn't right. She knew the voice of the mare that stood before them from somewhere, but it wasn't the voice that sang softly in her dreams and screamed in her nightmares. This could not be her mother.
She studied the pink mare in the dim light skeptically, she did not look or smell like her or her sister. Also this offered food was not like anything she had eaten while in her basket.
The sharp metallic scent of blood that leaked from the ram struck her nose and memories of things heard from within her basket flooded her mind.
No . . .this was definitely was not their mother. She began to shake with fear.
