History

In the dark depths of the swamp, a story was spun between siblings. Two sisters and a brother saw, above all else, the strength of family and kinship. These bonds flowed rich in their blood, deeper to their souls than even their names. They were the strongest of their kind, the best. And so they decided... why not find more kin like them? Kin who bore dragon's blood, and the strength that came alongside it.

With this goal in mind, the Brotherhood were born.

Built on the idea of family and Brotherhood, the tribe has very few specially designated positions. All kin admitted to the Brotherhood are seen as equals in strength, bond, and character. So long as they uphold the brotherhood's goals, no kin looks down upon another.

Requirements

.:: Have the noble blood of a Dragon. Be it by birth or by choice, Draonic nature must be valued and held by the kin

.:: Believe in the strength of the Brotherhood above all

.:: Do not dally with the weak and unworthy

.:: Take care of all tribe members as family

.:: Take strength of heart, strength of body, strength of mind, or strength of bond. Strength is the greatest asset to the brotherhood

.:: Take vengeance upon those whom would harm the brotherhood

Roles and Tasks

Elders: Those kin of grand heritage who have contributed to the strength of the tribe's blood. They are honored as living pieces of history, revered for their simple being and their contributions to Matope.

Warlords: More of a ceremonial title than a task, the warlords are the kin who oversee the tribe's daily life. While the Brotherhood preaches equality among its members, if need be, the Warlords are the final decision makers. In case of dire emergencies, they are the first kin to the front lines and the last to leave the battle.

Devoted: An exceptionally deft kin and his apprentice, the Devoted tends to the Salamanders of the tribe. He ensures their happiness, that they are well fed and healthy, and lays his life on the line to ensure no harm befalls them. If the Salamanders fall ill and perish, the Devoted is faced with immediate exile, if not death.

Brothers: Members of the tribe who do not hold an originator position. Buck or doe, any joining kin is presented with the title of Brother. They hunt as capable, groom as capable, and tend for the young where they can. Kin with certain strengths in fields may volunteer for those tasks for the good of the tribe, but no kin is bound to a certain role. Even the Warlords and Elders take their turn in hunting, young-rearing, and training.

Wyrm: The young born to members of the tribe. Typically, a Wyrm will be assigned to a full-fledged member to shadow and learn from. As all Brothers are family, these bondings do not have to be blood-relations. The Wyrm's mentor is responsible for teaching them to hunt honorably, fight with nobility, and live with the pride of a dragon.

Beliefs and Goals

The Brotherhood believe themselves to be the best the swamp has to offer. The Motherfather's chosen children, they have a stigma of arrogance attached to them. These kin, however, do not care for the stigma against them, and often take pride in the association.

Joining: Kin born of natural draconic traits (i.e. Fire Made Flesh and Snailshell) are welcomed into the ranks of the Brotherhood on sight. Other kin are met with disdain, if not disgust, and must prove themselves in combat to earn rank. The fight is to first blood- the kin who sheds blood first loses. Winners are gladly admitted to the ranks, losers are turned away and urged to grow in strength.

Fireborn: Kin born into the tribe, as well as foreign-born, must be born in the Draconic image. Two of-age apprentices will be paired in this tribe-wide celebration, and made to duel honorably. This, unlike joining, is not a duel to the blood- it is an opportunity for the youth to honor their mentor' skill and techniques. The fight lasts until exhaustion- the first kin to yield the loser, and the last kin to stand the winner. Both kin, if the battle is honorably fought, are welcomed as Brothers in pride. A particularly noble battler may be given the mark of honor upon their Fire Birth

Strength of Blood: Any expecting kin (be they the mother or father) may present their young to the Warlords for acceptance into the tribe. This MUST be decided ICly- kin born to the tribe who choose not to honor its ways are exiled, and not welcome to the Brotherhood's ranks any longer. Those who decide to stay are titled Wyrm, and given over to a Brother as their apprentice.

Keeper of the Flame: For ceremonies and festivals, the Warlords bring out a careful guarded secret- the Flame of the Dragon, a fire which the legends say has burned since the beginning of the swamp. Given to the Dragons from the Motherfather for their strength, it is kept in a hidden cave, tended to by two Salamanders (The High Holy, as they are called) and their keeper. It is a great honor to keep the Salamanders, and the flame is regarded as the lifeblood of the tribe. Offerings are periodically offered to the burning flames to keep prosperity in the tribe.

Trial By Fire: If a Brother is found to have dishonored the ways of the tribe, they stand trial against a jury of their Brothers. The kin selected are presented the crime, given the criminal's story, and give their judgment to the Warlord present. The majority's verdict chooses the fate of the kin at trial- a kin forgiven is welcomed back to the Brotherhood with open hearts, and their crimes forgiven. If the jury rules against the kin at trial, they are sent to test their resilience against The Longest Night

The Longest Night: Brothers who have failed their trials and have lost the favor of the tribe are sent to a grueling, miserable test of strength called The Longest Night. A Warlord and at least one Brother escort the condemned out to a dark, miserable stretch of the swamp. The condemned is led to the murky depths where the water reaches their chin. With a Brother as their witness, the condemned spends one day and one night at the mercy of the Motherfather- they are given no food, no drink, and must stand vigilant against the chill of the swamp's waters at night. If the condemned cannot complete the challenge, or chooses not to accept the challenge, they are exiled from the Brotherhood for life.

The Honor Guard: Brothers who are deemed honorable and true, for courageous actions or loyalty to the tribe, are given the opportunity to impress upon a Fu Dog. Brought to the tribe by When the Leaves Fall from a distant land, they come rarely in batches of threes or fours. The kin able to impress offer the noble beasts gifts of the hunt or gifts of the heart in an attempt to catch the Fu Dog's eye. If a Fu Dog chooses a kin, that kin is seen as the most honorable of its kind, and celebrated in ceremony the next day. The Fu Dog will then remain loyal to that kin and their family throughout all walks of life.

The Return: Death is viewed as a beautiful and honorable thing among The Brotherhood. While the passing of one of their own is a time of mourning, it is also a great celebration- their spirit rejoins the Motherfather and their flesh rejoins the swamp. The Brother is buried in the tribe's sacred grounds, and the kin who knew them in life take vigil. The night is spent trading stories, laughing, and remembering the great life of their lost Brother. A small lick of the sacred flame is brought to the kin's grave, and extinguished after the vigil.

Dishonored Brothers who die within the tribe's grounds are taken to the edge of the territory and left to rot among the waters. Whether a scavenger finds and devours them, or they simply decay, the Brotherhood cares not, and believes their spirit is left to wander the swamp for eternity.

Fu Dogs

Regarded for their fierce loyalty and strength, the Fu Dogs came to the Brotherhood as a gift- a symbol of a tentative alliance with a sister tribe, brought in good faith to avoid conflicts. The draconic traits of the dogs were particularly valued among the Warlords, who saw themselves reflected in their new companion's eyes. They were accepted among the fold graciously- what better companion was there than one who shared their beliefs? Thus, the Fu Dog became sacred to the Brotherhood.

Fu Dog Info

Obtaining
- Only kirin-horned Fu Dogs are available for customs. Dragon horns must not be used except with permission.
- Fu Dogs may only be customed by Moonstone Dazzle
- Fu dogs should also be customed in batches, never alone, except with permission.
- Batches consist of between three to four Fu Dogs.
- Batches may be given away in any manner.

Breeding
- Fu dogs are not allowed to breed at this time.
- This may change in the future.

Color
- Colors should be mainly natural.
- Minimal markings in unnatural colors are fine.
- One out of every other batch may fully be unnaturally colored.
- Orbs should be stone/gem colored. Not a requirement, but more of a suggestion.

Lore
- Fu dogs are believed to be stone guardians turned sentient by the Motherfather.
- They are protective by nature and mostly single-minded in that goal.
- They typically bond with either an individual or a family.
- Dragon-horned fu dogs are referred to as Royal. Kirin-horned fu dogs are referred to as Common.
- Royals are slightly larger in size, weigh more and are usually stockier in build than the Commons.
- They are not native to any tribe or lands but one, an NPC tribe far away
- The ones introduced to The Brotherhood have been canonically brought there by When the Leaves Fall from the above-mentioned tribe as a gift from its rulers. They have not been in this new tribe for longer than half of a kin's lifetime.
