Success!

Ears went flat against her skull as he stepped forward. Large and assertive. She was not timid by any means. But she would allow him to think he had perhaps an inch of dominance, Maybe a foot. While he was staying here in her grove. "No, welcome friend. Yes." The corner of her eye twitched. "Friend..."

She continued to push his backwards, the tips of her fingers not leaving his chest until she was sure he was close enough to the fire to sit and not run away. To not leave. He said he wouldn't.

Squinting an eye at him, she unhooked her claws and moved to take a spot close to the fire herself. Curling into a dark, sleek ball. Her tail curling about her slender body. The fire reflecting off her dark fur revealing even darker markings. Arcane symbols along her back and arms. "Tell me, your real name. Your purpose....about you. If you are to stay then I want no secrets."

From what Beast could tell of the mortals that roamed the lands, the females were always the dominant beings. He had no illusion that he could control this female, or that he could make her do as he commanded. But at least toying with her had worked in his favor.

He had been playing with her as a cat plays with a mouse, when he questioned her preference to being alone, hushed his voice, shrank toward the dark woods. He had expected her to let him leave, for this rarity to be done with. Instead she had stopped him, and he had agreed to stay. Teasing ending in success. But he should not toy with her again. No no. He was smart, too smart to play the same game twice.

She was dangerous. Very dangerous. When he had first appeared, he could have taken her easily enough. He had her by surprise. But she was no longer in a state of surprise. She knew he was here and she knew what he was. More importantly, he knew what she was. Powerful in ways he could not match. In strength, claw to claw, he could win. Against dark arts, he had no protection. No chance.

The Unholy male settled by the fire, laying on his side with his head lifted, his arms and legs stretched out in front of him, much like a cat lounging in the sun. He observed her from the other side of the fire, her words causing him to hiss and growl and sputter angrily. His name was the one thing he did not wish to give her.

"Names are dangerous tools," he noted with a displeased tone of voice. This was her land though, her territory, her grove. She called the shots. She was letting him stay and she would let him at least think he had some sort of foothold in dominance around here. "Beast," he finally gave in with a heavy sigh. "Purpose? I hunt. I seek out the strongest I can find, I find the challenging ones. Then break them. Leave them for others to see that they were broken. Kept anything good from entering the territory." He frowned then, what could she possibly desire to know about him? Pale eyes focused on the arcane symbols printed into her dark fur. Not a female to play the same game with twice. The kind to listen to when she had the upperhand, certainly.

"No secrets to tell you. I was alone, I stayed alone."

She was certain he would continue to hold on to his name for as long as he could. A name was enough for any number of spells. If one knew such spells. And he seemed partially keen to this idea at least. Which was probably why he grumbled about it.

Her one red eye shimmered dangerously in the firelight.

His explanations though seemed perhaps too simple for her. In time, if he did stay, she would weasel whatever she could out of him. Or perhaps it was just that simple. Males of any race were always quick to prove the strongest, to tear each other down physically.

Yes, this would work out just nice.

Uncurling her body, she slunk closer to him. Rubbing the side of her body against his back before draping herself over his side. Claws pricking at his skin once more as a crooked grin spread across her lips. "How many have you killed?" Dark hair fell over half her face as she leaned a cheek against his shoulder. The tip of her tail tapping against the back of his leg.

He did not like her having his name. He had no doubt that she knew the spells that one could use involving a name. Would he be strong enough to resist such spells, if she were to turn on him? He hoped so. If she ever did such a thing and the spell broke, he would break her. Not permanently, but he would cause her a great deal of pain. He shook his head, pushing such thoughts from his mind. There was no reason to be focused on those thoughts just yet.

His body yet again rumbled with his purr that made no sound to be heard, just the vibrations rippling through his muscled frame against her slender body. He didn't argue when she brushed against him or draped herself over his side. He frowned again at her next question, thinking back over the long span of time that he had been walking through these woods.

"None since the cold came," he grumbled out before continuing, "Before that, many. Close to the hundreds, but very few of them count. Not many proved to be a worthy opponent. Of those that did count, twenty? was it twenty? Maybe twenty. Strong ones though. Demons and wolves and nightwalkers. The rest were not worth breaking but I broke them anyway. Keeps the good out."

"How many have you," he asked and offered her a sinister smile that quickly disappeared. He was not adjusted to behaving like this. Closeness and conversation. He had always killed and moved on to the next. He had never stayed, never left one unharmed. She was his equal though. He had strength and she had dark magic. He would rather stay, at least for awhile. He promised he would stay, he did not promise her forever.

Axis slid to the ground in front of him, taking his arm and draping it over her shoulders. Pet would lay with her like this, when he was still hers. But her wayward child was long gone and those days were fleeting memories. Perhaps the Zombie child had softened her a touch, but he was her flesh. And at the time really her sole focus.

But now Beast was here. Pet was gone. This one would do. If he protested she would not care. He could sleep or lounge elsewhere in the small grove if he so wished to be rid of her so close.

His code of what counted as a real kill amused her. Most would count all but he settled on a specific twenty. Though perhaps she could not fault him on that. Most mortals were weak and easy enough to kill with a flick to the nose.

Her good eye closed as she relaxed, as much as she would allow herself to at least. The rotten eye was eternally open, not that it bothered her. She could not see out of it anyway. "Too many to remember, too many to care about keeping count. Back before....things changed. The world changed. Too many dark creatures roam to give the mortals fear of the night anymore. The come with knives and torches. Burn the dark away and stare death in the face. Not fun if they don't beg for their lives." Her body twitched violent for a second. "Stupid creatures. But oh, you truly see the nature of a being before you take their life. So many cowards."
