Damu heard the roar as he loitered near the border. It wasn't really his turn to deal with the challengers, but this roar sounded familiar. He meandered towards the sound, and when he saw who it was, he waved off the approaching reaver. "I'll handle this one," he called to his fellow reaver, turning with a faint smirk towards the white and purple male. He began to slip his adornments off, bit by bit, speaking conversationally as he did.
"So, you have returned! Good! I see you waited until you healed up well." He gave a brisk nod towards the scars that now showed against that white hide. "Wise choice. You'll have more fire for the fight that way." He flashed a wicked grin, all teeth and swept-back whiskers. "Wouldn't want me to have an unfair advantage, now would we?" He dropped the last of his accessories onto the pile and immediately launched himself at his opponent. No warning, no formal beginning, just automatic brawling mode. Ah yes, this would be fun!

Damu grinned feral glee as he saw his opponent rise to meet him. Ah yes, here was one who learned! Still grinning, he lowered his head to deflect the blow onto his mane. It worked somewhat, though he felt a line of fire across one ear. He let the pain fuel his ferocity, adding an extra zip to his already eager attack. With his head already down, he angled his head with his jaws open, trying to at least rake the other male's purple foreleg with his teeth. At best, he'd have liked to get a good lock on it, but at this speed, he didn't expect to do much more than draw blood, if that. In moments his momentum had shoved him past Saeran's chest. Their shoulders jolted hard against each other, but not enough to unbalance either of them. Quick on his paws, Damu whipped around and was reaching to slash his claws across the white body of the challenger. Time to put a little more red on that hide of his!

Even as he grinned at his claws drawing red lines across his foe's haunches, he realized his mistake. He's left himself open to a counter-strike he hadn't thought would come. For once Damu had misjudged the choice his opponent would make. If anything, this made Saeran rise in Damu's esteem. To opt to accept damage in order to give damage was a bold choice!
Despite his admiration, he hissed in pain as claws raked across his sensitive nose, bringing moisture to his eyes unbidden. He despised the idea that he would appear to be crying from pain, nevermind that they weren't actual tears. He stopped mentally approving of the male and got down to the business of beating some sense into this up-start. He lunged forward in two quick spurts, miming another bold charge. Instead, though, he rose up and aimed a two-pawed slash at his opponent, one aimed high and the other lower. He let loose a roar as he did this, braids flying and face twisted in a snarl.

Damu realized his mistake too late. He already was balance precariously on his hind legs with no forward momentum when the other male lunged into him. Worse, he was caught with one paw low when the grappling began. Hindered by not being able to bring one whole leg into play, and already staggering backward from the impact of his opponent, Damu knew it was over. It might not have played out entirely, but without even a crippling injury, he was defeated.
He fought valiantly to remain on his hind paws, wrapping his one free paw around the other male's neck and snarling face to face with him. However, this tipped him towards the trapped side, further over-balancing him. After a few tense, teetering moments, over he went, with Saeran atop him. His breath whooshed from his lungs, his trapped leg pained him from being pinned between him and the ground, and his tail lashed in frustration. To be felled by such miscalculation didn't sit well with him. Regardless, his opponent had won, and thus earned the right to join the pride.
Ears pinned in a scowl, Damu finally huffed out a breath. "Enough," he coughed in a half-growl. "You've won your challenge."

Damu's eyes were flat as he took in the smirk and swagger. He hefted himself off the ground with a grunting huff, ears back in a rather unfriendly expression. It wasn't that he outright disliked the other male... no, it really was more about the manner in which he had lost, and the other's attitude about it. There was very little respect for the more experienced fighter, no admiration of technique or prowess. It was clear that by winning the duel, Saeran had just gone from opponent to outright competitor. He was not terribly pleased.
"You have much to learn yet," he growled grouchily, "so a series of spars will be good for you." With a soft snarl he jerked his pelt over his head again, settling the dusty hide with a few impatient jerks. Losing was bad enough, but losing to bad timing was humiliating. "Watch yourself, whelp," he added. "You may be one of us now, but that just means you are fair game." He bared his teeth in a feral grin with zero amusement in it, then stalked off, grumbling to himself.
