Hero alias: San 三
Real name: Hai Xin Yao

Powers/abilities: 3 magical spirit swords tied to his family's bloodlines; one jian two-handed sword, two hook swords

The Twins
Xin's go to weapons are the two hook swords always at his sides. These are weapons he's very familiar with, having grown up watching his mother wield them. He is quite fond of the difficult style and uniqueness of the blades, always carrying a set of practice swords around with him pretending he was using the real ones when he was younger. The spirits within this set of swords are just that, twins. Having grown up around them, he and the Twins have a very playful relationship much like his mother had with them. Easy to converse with and control, though they tend to be mischievous around outsiders. (Non-pirates.) In a physical form, they appear as golden monkeys that perch on Xin's shoulders and are loyal to him. Always watching his back.

Seeing Double
Wind Cross

The Half-Moon
A two-handed Jian sword, requiring more discipline and focus to wield. Xin isn't that keen on picking it up because he's always considered it a stricter practice, not wild and free like the hook swords. It is an older sword while also carrying an older more serious spirit but is also the more powerful sword. His relationship with its spirit is more like a master scolding the black sheep, always questioning why he couldn't be more like his father who was more controlled and showed restraint; i.e. traditional art of the sword. Instead of arguing with it however, Xin is more likely to avoid conflict with the spirit. This behavior causes the spirit to be short-tempered with him. Xin is always avoiding the big questions and responsibilities it seeks from him; constantly & impatiently offering him wisdom he disregards. This spirit takes the physical form of the Tasean phoenix.

Which area is the character based/from: Three Sister Islands
Age upon entering academy: 15
How did your character get their powers: Parents, their family's heirlooms. Passing down & tradition.
Each of his parents carried an heirloom passed down to first borns from generation to generation. It just so happens that each of his parents were the first born of their family to rival clans of ancient pirates. (It's a bit of a Romeo/Juliet story without the suicides.) The tradition is usually once the first born comes of age ( 18 ), they receive the heirloom and undergo extreme training in order to wield the weapon and control the spirits but thanks to a freak storm during one of their trips, he lost both his parents and their ship & crew. None of them were ever found. The tradition was broken as he immediately became the head of his household. Soon after honoring the dead, he was bequeath each heirloom from each side of his family by his grandparents. They were too old now to put him through the training but thankfully another option came soaring through their window one night by rare white raven. Xin was instantly enchanted by the beautiful creature and the news it brought of a school for gifted unusual youths such as himself.

Each heirloom is tied to the bloodline, they are bound to the first born and automatically transfer ownership once they reach of age. Earlier in cases of death or disappearances (though this has been uncommon in both proud lineages). Outsiders or even those other than the first born who try to use them can try but the spirits have funny ways of dealing with people that do as they are fiercely loyal guardians. In very rare occasions (only once in The Twins' history) when the first born and their children have met untimely ends, the heirloom passes to the second born and so on.

Motivation for entering academy: His curiosity already being peaked by the mysterious white raven, Xin was ready to leave home for this enchanting school where he might meet other interesting people and learn about the outside world just like his parents had through traveling the seas. But there was only one concern holding him in his place, his younger sister, Mei Li. Not wanting to abandon her, Xin hid his letter but mischievous curiosity running in their family… It didn't take long for Mei to find the letter and question him about this amazing place and why he wasn't packing his stuff to go. He admitted his feelings of guilt knowing that she would be left in the hands of their elderly (old-fashioned and stubborn) grandparents. But being the more mature of the two children, she insisted that things would be fine without him for a while. After all, she was always the better of the two to handle family politics and keep calm in hard situations. He needed to learn to use their parents' weapons while not being pressured to do and be other things under expectations of the family, and the best way of doing that? Away from sharply scrutinizing eyes and constant negative criticisms. Finally, she was able to persuade him.

Strengths: Quick to react/fast reflexes. Courageous. Moral.

Weaknesses: Headstrong. He doesn't notice small important details until it's become too late. This often gets him into trouble, mostly usually into a situation that gets him and/or others hurt. Hence a lot of scars.

The weight of bearing both heirlooms and both traditions, both histories and responsibilities; avoiding them.

Personality:
The Ruffian
Growing up around pirates makes one very tough skinned and wise about the kinds of people there are in the world. You never know what kind of person you might meet at the docks! But it also makes for a very speak-free community, ones who aren't afraid to tell you exactly what they think when the feel like it; which is usually always. Xin might be crude but he'll always mean well; uncouth in an honest way, not meaning to offend. He's not a malicious boy nor ill-mannered, but his boisterous and outgoing interest is simply his way of being friendly and curious.

Hard working. Bearing the weight of tradition from both sides of his family, a lot of pressure and expectation on his shoulders.
