Does thinking about breathing make you breathe differently than you normally breathe? Does observing the breather in an experiment make them breathe differently than how they normally breathe without being experimented on?

What if someone was standing right behind you, looking over your shoulder, and breathing down your neck right now and you didn't even look back and notice till I asked about it?

I hear you're supposed to expand your stomach when you breathe, instead of your chest. Doing so takes in more air.

it does, in corps school we were taught that when we take a patient's respiratory rate, don't say anything to them, do it while you check the pulse.

Well, I know for certain that I would know someone was behind me - especially if they were that close.
